My weight was chosen almost completely at random. Pretty much even thinking about getting down to 200 seemed IMPOSSIBLE when I started this journey. I weighed 202 my senior year of high school, so I've never known being anything but obese. 150 seemed like a nice round number that didn't really matter, because I would never get to it anyway.

Now that I'm closer it seems not an impossibility, but still so far away. For my height, that still puts me way overweight. But, I'm not changing it just yet. I will be delighted if and when I can get to onederland and then go from there.

My initial goal is 155lbs (so a 85lbs loss), which is a normal BMI because we want to TTC (and I've already lost one pregnancy) so we really wnat to make sure I'm healthy before we try.

After I *hopefully* have a successful pregnancy I want to get to 140 because:
1. I will have lost exactly 100lbs
2. I was that weight in high school and I just can't imagine being smaller (I was very athletic then)
3. I think it's maintainable and it's 15lbs inside a healthy BMI so I have some some room for weight fluctuation.

I based mine on what the doctors says is ideal for me (between 155-165) and where I was last time in my weight loss efforts. I got to 185 and I still felt I could lose more. I then just randomly chose 175 as a nice whole number that would mean I need to lose a total of 80 lbs. I may get there or I may not. Or i may surpass it. In reality, that's a really fluid end goal. My main goal is just to get healthy and fit.

My goal weight just kind of choose me. My first and foremost goal this time around was orginally not a number, but to NOT gain back any pounds I was blessed enough to lose. If I only lost 30 pounds, my goal was to not gain it back...that sort of thing.

As time went by I started making these little mini-goals, (I actually hate the phrase mini goal because I think there is noting MINI about losing any weight at all!) So my first real goal was to be under 200. Then it was to be 175, then it was to be 1/2 my original weight then a normal BMI. Then the maintaince transition was more difficult than I had thought and continued to lose a bit more until I found my sweet spot.

THEN I found out at the Doctors office last summer that I was an inch shorter than I had always though, so then I needed to lose a little bit more to actually be in the middle of a normal BMI for my new found shorter height AND for bragging rights. (Just to say I've lost 200 pounds.) But until just recently I haven't really tried very hard to take off the last 6-7 pounds to get there... Soooo. I'm a freak! ;)

I just picked a memorable number that was kind of towards the middle of the healthy BMI range for my height. Also, people my height who weigh that generally look pretty fit and healthy to me; too much more and most people start to look a little pudgy (although ONLY being a little pudgy, instead of morbidly obese, would still be a huge improvement). Aiming for something at the top of the healthy range for BMI just wasn't as motivational for me. I think 125 is high enough to actually be achievable, while still being low enough to be healthy and probably actually look good. It might be nice to go lower, but I'm not sure that's a very realistic goal right now. I haven't been a healthy weight since I was about 5 or 6, so all of this is a shot in the dark. I could be completely off about what a good, sustainable weight for me is. Something to look forward to figuring out when I get there. :)

for me my goal weight of 140 is because when i am 125 lbs which seems decent for a 5'4 3/4" person...i look sick and gangly. i've always been muscular. i don't like not being curvy as well. So 140-145 is completely doable for my height and build.

ERHR 03-27-2011 08:49 PM

I consulted the BMI charts as well as some "ideal weight" ranges for my frame size (small). I picked 125 lbs because that's within both ranges without being near one extreme or another. It's also a few pounds below the weight I got to when I lost a bunch of weight three years ago. I stopped losing at that time because I moved and started grad school, not necessarily because I was done. So 125 lbs is my loose goal for now, but I'll judge if I need to be higher or lower as I get close.

I picked a number that was a bit below where I ended up at last time I lost weight. Now I do regret it a little, I think I can do better, but when I started I didn't dare to dream it. I'll leave my goal as is for now, but I hope to actually end up at around 145.

I also have a size in mind; when I was 170 I was comfortably in a 12. I'd like to be a size 10, and anything below that will just rock my world (in a good way)...that's the goal that really excites me.

Serbrider 03-27-2011 11:09 PM

I first said 150, because two years ago that would be an even 50 lbs. Well, when I went up, I learned more about what I believe I and my body would be happiest at. I actually want to get down to 129... Just once. My "true" goal from the start has been to maintain around 130-140. So... I put the higher end of that on my goal. I've never been the skinny girl. While I don't want to be skin and bones, or starve myself, for me the number 130 is a "skinny" number. Even "139" is a skinny number. To reach that would be... Well... Euphoria. I'll go with what my body functions best with, and if that's 140-150... That's fine. If I can hit the magic number of 129... Great. If not... I WILL at least hit 139.

OhMyDogs 03-28-2011 02:16 PM

Having a large build, I recall being thin (a size 8) at about 150-160 lbs. which is where my goal comes from. I am completely disregarding the BMI charts, and going with my experience. If I need to alter, one way or another, when I get close, I will do so.

TheBunneh 03-28-2011 02:36 PM

I picked 150 because it put me into the healthy BMI category. The closer I get to it the more I feel I will need to lose more, and I set a tentative second goal of 130 (because it would be an even 100 lost). But my plan is to just take it 5 pounds at a time after 150 and stop when I feel good.

Andrbeck 03-28-2011 04:04 PM

I chose my goal because its my pre preggo weight. I am just really unhappy with how I look right now. I am hoping losing this weight will give me more confidence and make me feel less depressed. I also have terrible stretch marks so I was hoping this could help get rid of some of those.. or at least make them fade.

zoodoo613 04-01-2011 12:27 PM

Mine is around what I was most of the way through college, and got down to once after college. It seems reasonable. It's BARELY into my healthy range, but I have trouble imagining myself being able to maintain less than that.

LisaP916 04-01-2011 12:47 PM

I have been obese my entire life. The lowest weight I was able to maintain post WLS was 195 and it was the first time I stayed below 200lbs since I was about 13 years old.

I looked and felt SO good at 195... Once I get back there, I'll see what I think.

I can't pick a clothing size goal because my body is so disproportionate. I have HUGE thighs. I mean totally massive. At my lowest weight I still had to buy a plus size 14 jeans and cinch the waist tight with a belt. There's so much excess skin and droop on them, no amount of weight loss is going to make them go away. Same with my upper arms. I can wave and clap at the same time! LOL!

Linsy 04-01-2011 01:00 PM

Originally I thought too low was really ambitious so I chose 150. I realized that 150 is still in the overweight category so I lowered it to 125. I may end up lowering it to 110 but I'll see once I get there.
