A take off of the BMI Chart thread.

So now after having read that thread I am curious how most of you decided upon your goal weight. I know many of you have a flexible goal, I do too because I could get there or not quite get there and feel content.
I selected mine because 1. My gyno said he wanted to see me lose 100lbs and 2. Its the closest guess to what I weighed in my later years of high school. Once I went to college it was all down hill from there. Share your thoughts?

My goal has traveled around a lot. I started wanting to get to 180 because that seemed like a reasonable weight and then I switched to 170 because of my family genetics and big bone structure and it being in the middle/beginning of the overweight range but now that I'm 189 I feel like I could probably stand to lose a few more pounds so I switched to 165. Of course that goal can be increased or decreased depending on how I feel as I get in the low 70s. My weight has come of pretty evenly through out this journey but lately I feel like its sticking to my belly so I suppose it will depend on where the remaining weight comes off.

I settled the number I did because 1) my doctor suggested it was best for me and 2) being at that weight, I felt the best - not starving myself thin or too plump. Just right, I suppose.

i chose mine because i was 170 about 4 years ago, and a uk size 12. for me thats my perfect size, i love being curvy and feminine and because of my face shape, chest size and hips at that size i think i look my best. relating to the bmi chart i think 170 puts me just in the overweight category but im not really paying too much attention to that, i just want to be healthy, and confident in how i look.

I chose mine according to BMI. Its exactly between normal and overweight. And most of all cause i like to think it will be easy to achieve without too much pressure. I will reevaluate when i m closer ofc, but one of the things that keeps me motivated is being realistic with the things i try to achieve.

I chose mine because it's the smallest I have ever been in my adult life and I remember it as being 'small and nice' feeling.

125lbs is not really that small for someone that is only 5 feet tall and I may very well reevaluate once I get to that size, but I also didn't want to set myself up with a goal that was frustrating or impossible to reach.

I can always say 'what the heck, I'll lose 5 more pounds', but if you reach that point where you are beating your head against a wall and can't get anything to move that can be discouraging.

So, I guess mine is nice but attainable. :)

My original goal was to lose 100 lbs. I figured after that my body would decide on the best weight even though it would be nice to knock off another 20 and get that "normal" BMI label.

I've gained 3 lbs in the last 5 months. I absolutely refuse to let the scale go above 165 so I'm curious to see if I go full tilt again if I can really get even into the 150s.

I chose mine because it would mean I lost half my body weight. I am not sure yet if it is realistic but I will leave it until I figure out how realistic it is.

great thread! i always wondered how people chose their goals. mine was also half decided by my doctor and the other half by me. it was the weight i felt most comfortable at 'back in the day'...

I chose mine based on being there years ago and feeling it's "good enough" to try to get pregnant. It's still about 5lbs overweight but that's alright. My stomach was flat and I wore an 8/10. It isn't my ultimate goal.

I chose mine because it's 10 pounds into the healthy weight range and I also know it's what my sister weighs, and I think she looks good, not too thin and not overweight (we're the same height). Now that I'm close I'm pretty sure that's is where I will stop.

My weight goal is very flexible. I read a book that said that it was more mentally/emotionally healthy to choose a jean size goal than a weight on the scale. I discussed this with my doc who said it was probably more physically healthy too. I discussed the jean size thing with the doc and my hubby and settled on 4 (in a Levis 505 since size varies so much across brands). However, so many places, including many docs, want you to have a scale number to give them as a goal. My husband is a math geek, so he used the data we had for what sizes I had been at what weights and figured that I would probably be a 4 between 110-120, so 115 was born as a goal. I have never in my life been a thin person, so I have no idea if that will be accurate. We are starting to think I may weigh more than that at a 4, but I'm not going to change it until I get closer and see.

When I get to 159, I could look back and say I lost 155lbs. 17o was my original goal. I feel pretty comfy where I am now, although I can still feel the pudge over the pants, etc, so I can definately see how Much More Amazing I will feel when I'm 155. So 155 is my new Goal with the idea that maybe I could settle around 149, lol. See...Not sure yet. EAch pound really makes a differnence once you get lower and lower!

This. I added a couple pounds off of that so I could have a little wiggle room.

Honestly, I think I'll be thrilled with myself at a lot more than 133, but I'm playing it by ear. The 190's is not enough, so I'll keep going. :D
