Tipper 12-03-2002 01:57 PM

Hi guys.

I am just getting caught up on all the post.

My Thanksgiving was nice and quiet. It was just the girls this year with our better halfs. Our brothers had other plans.

I didn't really do to bad. This whole thing of being pregnant is a little weird for me. I got sick the other night at the resturaunt. I was so imbarresed.

Anyway, put me down for starting point of 205. I want to track my weight of eating healthier for the baby and see if it goes down or up.

I have been way to tired to walk, but I am going to make myself do it tonight. We are supposed to get some ice and snow tomorrow so I need to get that walk in tonight.

I went to see Harry Potter on Saturday and I hate to admit it, but I got bored with the movie. Know that there are more to come, you already know that Harry saves the day. Maybe the next one will catch my attention.

Talk later.

Amarantha2 12-03-2002 03:52 PM

Yo! Ho! Twenty-two days to go!!!

Drive-by post as off to shop yet again!

Welcome back, Tipper!!! I really like your "title" text: "To love me is a privilege!" That bears thinking on!

Punkin: My last on Harry (probably not) ... Couldn't agree with thee more! I think kids need to be fairly mature before going to see these. Fairy tales themselves are also very scary when you think about it ... and there's a body of old children's morality tales I read when taking German in college that still blows my mind! I think it's ok for kids to be scared, but parents need to be cognizant of the effect the movie or story is having on them. I know of one three-year-old who became clinically depressed when her mom read "Charlotte's Web" to her. How crazy is that, to expose a child that young to that book, which still depresses me? Sigh.

Senamay: Amarantha emphasizeth with thy Victoria Secret's story. Once back in the midwest, I went into a trendy upscaley type dress shopy thing and a size-0 young thing salesclerk from the right side o' the tracks (obviously noting that I was from the wrong side and that I WAS NOT a size-0) tried to block my path and said, "There's nothing in here that you could wear!" Well, of course, expecting a reporter to leave a place just 'cause you say so is like expecting Christmas to come in July, so I veered off from the rude twiggy person and proceeded to stalk the aisles o' that store for 45 minutes or so. "You're right," I said to the thin child when I left, "there's nothing here I'd consider wearing. Have a nice day!"

I think there's something wrong with me mentally, Senamay, because whenever I feel people are thinking I don't belong somewhere, that's exactly where I want to be. It must be genetic or something. :)

I am with thee on that plus size nonsense. Might I remind the world that Marilyn Monroe was a size-14? Or a size-12? Or something? And, yes, I do know as the folkettes on the fitness boards oft repeat that sizes have changed, so Marilyn might be a 10 or an 8 these days? Who cares? She was beautiful and I hear she worked out with weights ... don't know if that is true as women didn't mostly do that much back then. But Marilyn had a sad life and her beauty and fame did not mitigate this because (I'm guessing) she did not love herself or take care of herself and she let people treat her badly.

So, methinks, self-love and self-approval be vital to happiness and happiness be vital to success in any venture, including this weight management journey we are on! (Not talking about clinical depression, which needeth medical intervention, but garden-variety self-esteem and overall contentment and equilibrium in a sometimes crazy world).

Anyhow, that's my final soapbox thingie for today. Over and out. Need a space heater. Wouldst thou believe I have applied for a job in my home state of Colorado? It snows there, you know. I think I've gone mad. Likely won't get the job, though, so that's ok!!

Punkinseed 12-03-2002 04:42 PM

Hey, I'll be 33 next month and I *still* can't (and won't) read Where the Red Fern Grows or Charlotte's Web. The Black Stallion depressed me as did The Giving Tree and Of Mice and Men. I believe reading should be a pleasurable thing in life - if it causes distress then DON'T read it or allow your children to. In a perfect world parents would pre-read books like Harry Potter before letting their children read them - let's face it, there's a HUGE leap between the safe "see Jane run" and the Potter series!
Yes, reading Charlotte's Web to a 3 year old is crazy... Nothing like putting the fear of loosing Mom into the kid's head from the get-go.

Then again, I don't have kids so maybe I should just shuush... :tape:

Terri

ellis 12-03-2002 04:46 PM

I agree with all of you re: Harry Potter. They CAN be frightening. Unfortunately, we've got a 13 year old and a 6 year old, the age gap making it difficult when doing "the family thing".
We were very careful about not allowing our first child to watch anything frightening. But our 6 year old accidentally discovered Jurassic Park at the age of 3 at a friend's house , and he's never looked back. He LOVES that type of movie (AND Abbott and Costello ), and I think that for the most part he's become inured to a lot of the special effects. BUT NO GUNS!!!! That's where we draw the line.

Yes, Terri... I was surprised that there was a death in #4. I'll have to preview that one myself. Shouldn't he have come back to life at the end? What happened to happy endings?!?!

Dinner... dinner.... it's almost 5 and I haven't got a clue what to make...

Punkinseed 12-03-2002 06:06 PM

:cb:Mom's healthy!!:cb:

Got the results back already and she's fine - another calcification - wahoo.

Resuming normal life,

Terri

Kaylets 12-03-2002 07:47 PM

Tuesday evening

GREAT NEWS PUNKIN!

I know you are soooo relieved! Very GOOD NEWS!

Yes, seems as though most of the US is much colder than normal. Spoke w/ folks in Michigan today and they broke records standing since 1890's- spoke w/ S Dakota today and she was hoping it would get above 10! I said is that before the windchill- and she said "NO" and it was snowing -
And even the Empress in AZ says the temperature is chilly--

Did somebody move the thermostat? How many times do we have to tell you not to touch it! ( Sound familiar? sounds like my house but about the a/c! :p :p

DH feels better but is still getting headaches " like a vise" -- His head isnt stuffy so I'm wondering if its this constant wind. He's also been working w/ lots of paperwork which he says is very dusty so I wonder.....

Later!

deleted2 12-03-2002 08:46 PM

Punkinseed, that's great news! I'm happy for your family----a wonderful Christmas present!:D

You mentioned the book "The Giving Tree"---I recall being so moved by it 20 years ago and now when I pick it up I want to just shake the Giving Tree! There's no excuse for letting that boy take advantage like that! If I was the tree I'd drop a nice heavy branch on his head while I still had branches. My, how attitudes change!!!

Wildfire 12-03-2002 09:09 PM

Senamay, CONGRATS on the 3lb loss! :cb: Hey, brownies are gonna happen....take a NO GUILT card and move on. Next time you're in front of that Victoria's Secret store, march right in and browse. You can always say you're shopping for a gift, and pick out something that you can use for motivation (even if you don't buy it), and imagine how great it will be when you DO fit into their stuff. Or treat yourself to some of their Pear body lotion...it's divine...and why should only the skinny girls get to wear it? YOU DESERVE IT, TOO! Thanks for the heads up about Dr. Phil's weight loss show. I found info on his site for anyone (like me!) who missed it.

http://www.drphil.com/show/show.jhtm...019_weight.xml

Kaylets, I get up early on the weekends, too. 7am is sleeping in to me now! I'm up between 4:30-5:00am during the week, but because I just can't get lunches packed, clothes ironed, etc. most evenings, I'm doing that in the morning.

Amarantha...where does one get *towel boys*? :D Geez, I can't even get hubby to pick up his own towel, nevermind get me one! Who's this Dr. Philbertha? She sounds interesting...and probably full of no-nonsense motivation.

Anagram, all the best to you and hubby. How goes it?

Autumn, it's preeetttyyy chilly here in the frozen north this week....we had a wind chill factor of -25C this morning! Did your DH bowl professionally, or just a die-hard?

Punkin, glad your Mom is home and crabby ;) and OKAY! :dancer: Congrats on the doc's appointment. "thank goodness, I don't have to medicate you" ....great line! :D

On Alan Rickman...his line, "and CANCEL CHRISTMAS!!!!" in Robin Hood is my absolute favorite. Hubby and I use it on each other when the other is *****ing to lighten the mood.

Welcome back, Scooby!

ellis, you're incredible! Just in general. :D You're up to running for 15 minutes! Holy crow.

Tipper, sorry you're feeling that "morning" sickness... hopefully it will go away after the third month. Take it easy....get lots of rest if you're tired....you're growing a baby!:bb:

I'm looking forward to seeing HP2. Loved the first one. Haven't read the books, though.

Had another good day OP! I'm scale obsessing, though, and getting on every morning. Not reporting until Friday, though.

So now I have the very important life-altering decision of choosing a hairstyle for the party on Friday. I have an appointment at 3pm Friday afternoon...going to have it put up....something curly and wispy, I believe. A little luxury and stress avoidance tactic so I'm not pulling it all out when it won't do what I want it to!!!

Hey, we're cruising! Just 3 more weeks 'till Christmas eve! Keep up the good work, everyone!

Amarantha2 12-03-2002 09:41 PM

Merry Christmas to thy mom, Punkin!!! That's great news!!! :cp:

Hmmm. Punkin, please NEVER shush!!! That would be no fun at all! :) "Of Mice and Men" is not my favorite Steinbeck, but I do think he is wonderful. I think "East of Eden" is my favorite one and I did read it when quite young. I do think reading should be pleasurable but it also has the power to enlighten, to expand the mind and let the spirit soar free and I do think a child has the right to read freely whatever interests him/her. I had that right and believe it is inalienable and invaluable. But parents, the schools and the communities also have the duty to be guides and helpers in the kind of influences children are exposed to. And, I do think happy reading is a good idea. Of course, I find HP by and large a happy reading experience and I still maintain it's not really for kids. I never read "The Giving Tree."

If we're talking about sad kid books, what about "Little Women," "Little Men," et al? I grew up on these and didn't think they were sad, but lots of people die in them, now that I think about it. Same thing with the "Anne of Green Gables" books. So, I guess I find it ok that the boy died in HP, but I agree that it came as kind of a shock and I kind of thought he wouldn't really be dead or Harry would bring him back to life. I won't get into the religious implications of the Harry character.

Ellis: Happy endings are out of style, methinks, but we can make them up! I always do ... Rhett turns around at the driveway and comes back to Scarlett and says, "I take it back, I really do give a d***!" ... Cedric is not dead but only under a spell, which Harry is able to undo ... the U.N. calls a special session for the purpose of declaring peace on earth by Christmastime and everyone comes and shakes hands and agrees to be friends henceforth ...

Speaking of reading, that's what Amarantha needeth to do now, as she relaxeth in the spa! Never got to the slow, heavy weights, but did 40 minutes of Leslie Sansone's "Walk Strong" and called it good. Points on target with glazed chicken Lean Cuisine as the finishment.

Onward, downward to Day 21? Will there be a happy ending to our Christmas tale? YOU BET!!! :cb: Woo-hoo!

Amarantha2 12-03-2002 09:48 PM

To All: Amarantha's post above seemeth rather on the curt side in places as she readeth it but she didn't mean it in that spirit ... it is all the influence o' that Dr. Philbertha ... yes, Wildfire, Dr. Philbertha be a cut-to-the-chase, how's it working for you kind o' lady ... she seemeth to have a heavy influence on Amarantha some days!

Bye-the-bye, towel boys be an institution at the spa. It's an inherited position, passed down from father to son ... :)

Bye, bye!!!

senamay 12-03-2002 10:16 PM

ellis 12-04-2002 01:58 AM

Senamay, don't worry... most of us have felt that way about someone at some time. And then felt guilty afterwards. But hey... we're only human. And we ARE having such a struggle with our weight.
Of COURSE you don't want to have bypass surgery, but you DO want someone to wave a magic wand and give you the "solution to weight loss". We all want it, but I guess we just have to do it the hard way. By keeping in mind the reason for the struggle... our health, our loved ones, our inner selves...
Hang in there, hon... you're going to do it. Hugs...

Kaylets 12-04-2002 06:03 AM

Weaaaaaallllly Coollllld Wednesday

Hello all!

Empress A- Speaking of Leslie Sansone, have you seen you commercial for her new " Thigh something Machine"? It looks like an upgraded "thighmaster" -- Had to chuckle -- beat goes on...

Senamay- sorry I didnt say this last night but will say it now-
1st of all- Please grab a few NO GUILT CARDS--Please. We can't be perfect, we can only be better-- As for the bypass surgery-- It does sound like a quick fix initially doesnt it?? But once you realize that a cracker and a spoonful of something is the meal for nearly the first year and that the stomach remains the size of your thumb-- I like crackers as much as anyone but not that much.
I appreciate that some folks have no other choice but I wonder how many of these surgeries would be done if the insurance companies were not paying for them.

Running late this am so will jump off the soapbox and go bundle up! Weathermen are sounding the alert- Delaware may get snow ! Lots of it!

Today's thought is:

"Aerodynamically the bumble shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumble doesn't know it and goes on flying anyway." -- Mary Kay Ash

Arabella 12-04-2002 07:36 AM

Popping in to say  Still not feeling the best and have a ton of things to do today. Got a copy of an anthology yesterday that has a couple of my short stories in it - that was pretty thrilling!

Kaylets, we got 40 centimetres of snow since the day before yesterday - not sure what that is in inches, but - LOTS! Looks like a winter wonderland out there. Time to go get the snow tires put on the car! (um, yup, I'm a procrastinator  )

Senamay, don't feel jealous of your friend. Maybe she doesn't have to exercise (but exercise is good for your health and makes you feel GOOD!) and maybe she is losing weight without putting in effort (but she feels sick or throws up every time she eats!). Do yourself a favor and cultivate healthy habits! Depression is a toughie, and I've got a bit of a tendency to it myself. The best thing that I've found for it is to take charge of things (even starting with very small things, almost anything). Because depression is a passive state, you break it when you realize how much control you have over your life.

Amarantha, no offense taken here at thy reference to the occasional suckage of life. Life doth surely suck at some points, but else how would we measure the splendor of the rest of it?

Punkin, so glad to hear your mom's results were good. Yup, on with life! And, well, of course AR was the voice of God. Definitely divine with supernatural powers. Hmmm... never really found God sexy before (sorry for blasphemy if it offendeth anyone).

Wildfire, I'm an early riser too. I like to get up at 5 to have an hour to myself before DH gets up. My problem though is that I seem to be stuck on daylight saving time - when I tell myself to wake up at 5 I'm waking up at 4  Maybe I need to tell self to get up at 6?

Ellis, I can see that you don't find Alan Rickman as riveting as some of us, at least in that way :o. Not sure if he had a different voice how I would feel about him. I have sometimes thought I would happily marry Lyle Lovett if he would sing around the house...

Eydie, hope your throat is better. Take good care of yourself!

 to all those Elvettes unmentioned!

Let's make this a good one!

Punkinseed 12-04-2002 10:51 AM

Mornin' all!

Ever have that moment, when you feel that all in the world seems right and you're so damned happy you just can't stand it anymore? I did, last night. 'Round 7:30pm I turned off the tv, cranked up the stereo with a few new cd's and poured myself the first of a few glasses of wine and had myself a little shindig (Punkin, party of 1, your table is ready!). :cb:
Sometimes it's good to ignore what's wrong in the world and celebrate what's *right* with it.
Decided to treat myself to a color with my haircut next week. My stylist keeps saying she has a color called "Irish Setter" she wants to put on me (I'm a redhead). So, Happy Yule to me, I'm gonna let her, *woof*.

Eydie - The Giving Tree always got me because after *all* that mistreatment the tree still loved the boy. Geez, still tears me up... Yes, now I would hope the tree bashed the kid with a branch too.

Amarantha - Yea, no Harry religion talk! "Alternative religions" get a bad enough rap - 'round these parts they actually tried to ban the books because they feared they'd make kids want to be witches.

Senamay - I'm going to agree with everyone else on this. You just keep doing what you're doing - it WILL happen. There's nothing wrong with bypass surgery - it's saved a LOT of lives, but there's also a lot of risks. There is no one way (or magic way) to get healthy, only the way that's going to work for you. Your friend is going to lose weight really fast because of what's surgically been done with her body - short of starvation you can't compete with her. I wouldn't want to lose weight like that, personally. The thought of being physically ill every time I ate doesn't appeal to me at all - I'd rather be fat and have it take 2 years to loose 100 pounds. AND, If she's loosing weight that fast and NOT exercising I shudder to think of what she's going to look like when she's down 100 pounds - ever seen a sharpei? (no offense, but it's true). You just keep doing what you've been doing - we're here for you. Heck, we're here WITH you! ;)

Kaylets - Your quote, again, is perfect. My best friend is a Mary Kay consultant and gave me a MK mug last year. All over it are little bees and saying like "if it's to BEE, it's up to me" and "to BEE it, think it". Love that mug...

Arabella - LOL! No offense here. I thought the movie was hysterical but probably pi$$ed off (almost) every Catholic that saw it. Yes, Alan Rickman, a sexy voice of God, and Alanis Morrisette, bless her, was God HERself...

Wildfire - I'm going to have to go rent Robin Hood - I don't remember ever seeing it!

Ok, off to do some work. It's super cold here too, but still no snow - freezing rain though. Hopefully it's all gone by this afternoon so I can go to Curves.

Ta' for now,
(oh towel-boy, come hither...)

Terri

Amarantha2 12-04-2002 12:36 PM

Yo, ho, ho and a bottle o' rum! Oops, wrong fantasy! Sorry! And, speaking of which, methinks there be too many apologies on this thread, including Amarantha's!!! :) Sorry if that offendeth anyone!! Oops, doing it again! Hey, Elfettes, don't think it's possible to offend with this group because we all be so open-minded, intelligent and darn nice (or just too hardheaded to take offense at anything, sorry if that ... )!!! :jig: :cb: :cp:

Punkin, glad thou had thyself a bit o' a party last night. Thou deserve it. Re: people who want to ban books, I know what thy meaneth. Once I wrote a story about a man who tried to get The Ugly Duckling banned from the library. He thought the duckling was disrespectful or something. People are always wanting to ban what they don't understand. Sometimes people just get frightened when they encounter a line of thought that doesn't track with their own worldview. Actually, I wasn't going to say that Harry was anti-Christian, but rather that I see the books as an allegory for the story of Christianity. Hope that ... :)

Senamay: Re apologizing for thy bad mood, see above!!! :cb: I'd venture to say all here have experienced similar frustrations. This weight thing is a bear and no mistake. I'd also weigh in (stole that from someone ... I can't see the thread while typing this as it's too slow to type online right now) with everyone else and say that the surgery should only be considered as a last resort for those whose state of health warrants it (as determined by them and the medical community) and for whom more conventional methods (e.g., eating less/moving more) just aren't an option. It be also a major operation and though thy friend seemeth to be sailing through it, she's probably suffered a lot.

Senamay, thou seemest to Amarantha to be really ready for thy journey to commence. It may take a long time and lots of work and patience and dedication, but my gut feeling is thou will get where thou wants to go weightwise on this round of trying. It be thy time and it will happen. Keep on going and doing what you know works ... but do continue to talk about thy feelings and especially talk to your doctor about this operation because the doctor is the best person to advise you.

You are doing great, Senamay!!! Keep going! Woo-hoo!!

To All: Sorry (oops) ... I mean I can't reply to anyone else right now because I can't see the thread, so ho, ho, ho, here we go!!! :cb:

If anything I've said offendeth ... oops! Bye!

Amarantha2 12-04-2002 01:00 PM

Addendum! Ok, back online and can see the thread and must say a huge WOO-HOO to Arabella on receiving the book with her short stories in it!!! How satisfying that must be! Amarantha hath always thought thy writing to be very fluid and imaginative and thinkest thou well deserveth this success! :cp:

Kaylets: Haven't seen Leslie's thigh machine but it doesn't suprise me because she's now marketed by Goodtimes Marketing (think I've shared my experiences, which are not unique, re GT with this board)! A thigh machine would be just their type of thing! I've resolved not to buy anymore Leslie's until or unless she parts company with GT! I love the new tapes but they are all the same and every single time I order a new one they try to sell me equipment I already own (NOT a thigh machine ... sheesh)!

No offense meant to anyone who has a thigh machine! :jig: :cb:

Bye again!!

deleted2 12-04-2002 02:05 PM

Senamay, just remember that everyone's on their own journey---however, I really understand your feeling that it's not fair. Ive been there many times. I have the type of body that wants to hang onto every ounce and I admit it ticks me off that so many people can lose weight effortlessly or so it seems. Nothing to do but keep doing it---I'm going into my 5th year on this weight loss journey and if it takes forever, so be it. Giving up isn't an option. So yes, absolutely vent, rage, pout--whatever you have to do, we're here for you! ;)

Arabella, how exciting!!!:D Is this anthology something that we can get? Is there a a website where we can order? I'd love to read your stories. Big congratulations!!!:D

I've been hilding back on this Harry Potter sub-discussion because I could go on and on---it's a real love of mine! There's never been any mention of religion in the books but it's something I like to daydream about--in my mind I've created a religion for them!

Amarantha, Yeah, I agree--enough with the apologies. We have to know we're among friends here. :) :joker:

Arabella 12-04-2002 03:52 PM

Eydie & Amarantha, thanks for the congrats and kind words! The book is available:

http://www3.pei.sympatico.ca/~laurie...w/harvest.html

(I'm the last one on the list of names - I complain about always being last - darn alphabet! - but my son says the last name is the one people will remember) :cp:

I would be more than happy to send anyone that wanted copies of the stories in it free, though.

I agree about the overabundance of apologies. We're a swell bunch of gals, so what do we have to apologize for!

ellis 12-04-2002 05:05 PM

Okay... I'm new .... no, you're new to ME! Ummm, what's the apologizing stuff? Should I be apologizing for something? Because I OFTEN put my foot in my mouth and have to apologize afterwards. Or... is someone apologizing to me? Because if so, there's no need. Or... is this entire thing right over my head? None of my business? I'm terribly confused. :D

In any case, I would like to offer profuse apologies for whatever I have done, and hope never to offend anyone again. hugs and kisses... ellis

ellis 12-04-2002 05:07 PM

OH! And Arabella!! I'm so happy for you re: the stories!! Congratulations!! :cb:

Wildfire 12-04-2002 06:12 PM

Oh... Wildfire... you poor darling. I wished you well elsewhere, but I forgot about your dress!!! aaaaaaaaaaargh!!
Two days... oh dear... hugs, sweetie...

Senamay, I'm glad you're getting back on track. (I know what you mean about the kids... mine are driving ME crazy, too! My 13 year old is peering over my shoulder and rolling her eyes.)

Kaylets 12-04-2002 08:46 PM

Wed evening!

My post got dumped!!!!!!!!!

Ah well, I was "speaking" my mind about Harry Potter and I will take the dump as an omen that everything's already been said and I don't really have anything new to add--

Arabella! I saw your name on the list! Please include me for the stories! I will read yours first! CONGRATULATIONS!! This is exciting!

Senamay! And just for review-- We keep NO GUILT Cards here on the table because guilt is overated. Too much time is spent on guilt from not staying on program. ( whatever your program is) -- And guilt hates to be alone so guilt says " well, this was a bad choice, you might as well make a few more bad choices" --
In fact, there really isn't a "bad" food vs "good" food- Its how we
act with certain food- We all know our triggers. Some of the foods that might set me out of control may be able to sit for weeks in your house. I have my strategies but some days, for whatever reason, I do not make the best choices. But I can't give guilt too much time because guilt is not necessary. I can't be perfect because I'm human.
I think maybe this summer on another thread, we had a discussion about how if you were traveling and had a flat tire, you wouldnt keep driving the car on the flat. You'd stop the car, get the tire changed and continue on your journey. That's what the NO GUILT Cards are for--To remind us to dust ourselves off and keep moving forward.
And don't forget to turn the card over --its another reminder " You're never behind, just jump right in" Each one of our journeys is individual to each one of us. Sometimes, the road has potholes or there's heavy traffic or maybe you might even have to find a new route--

But you're not alone. Each of us was drawn here because this is a support thread. And often times, in supporting someone else, you are in turn supporting yourself.

And, IMHO, its the best thread around!

Got to get ready for the BIG STORM! Where's my icescraper?

oh, and PS- Yes, I realized after I got to work and opened my email there that I had missed both "bees" in Today's Thought- Luckily, its a familiar quote, I trust everyone knew what was missing!!

Eydie! Don't give up yet! Maybe you'll feel well enough to make an appearance??

QUICK STOP

It's been very very busy and I just haven't had time to post - actually, I don't have time right now. But I just wanted to let you all know I am still hanging in on the challenge, and for those that asked: my mammogram went great. Thanks for asking! :)

I will catch up with you guys later in the week when I have a little more time.

My thoughts and support are with you all! Hang in there!!

:D

My Eyes!!!!!

Oh My!?! What a sorry bunch!

What a tremendous amount to read and digest! Who has time for novels :) ? The new Ridley Pearson was pretty good though.....

So I am running 2 sessions so I can browse and post....he, he, at the same time...sorta.

Hafta jump into the Harry bit here...since I am a Kiddy Lit course grad...I loved those books...read them all once and listened to them on tape twice....read by a Brit...Jim Dale I believe, excellent unabridged production...love those books on tape for driving O'Hag. Anyway another "hot" author...in a similar vein is Tamora Pierce...strong female characters mostly, but also some male...fantasy.

Heh, speaking of fantasy... Victoria's Secret. I have to admit that I have a perverse urge to try a thong :o . My daughter (18) wears them and sez they are comfortable...not there yet, feel that the nether cheeks are too voluminous at this time...but I'm with you guys...especially Senamay...ONE OF THESE DAYS!

Thanks Punkin for the Excellent health news....we were worried.
Senamay, I too have a friend who underwent that surgery...actually husband of a friend...he had a horrid time, with many complications...no food for nearly 2 months(because of the complications), severe depression, his blood was all out of wack...developed a diabetic condition, bedsores and the list goes on...he was on liquid food (with antibiotics) for that whole time....NOTHING by mouth not even water...he had a leak somewhere and because he was so large, he could not fit into the imaging machine so they could find it. Besides, there is a real danger that you can stretch that tummy again and end up just where you were. I tell you girl, we ALL look for the easy way, but man oh man I wouldn't wish what he went through on anyone. I think we all get "depressed" at times...be it with ourselves, or our lives or whatever. The thing is to work past it, because no matter what we think, we all are beautiful, and if no one gets it, well guess what...it's their loss and problem, not ours.

Wildfire...zinc lozenges...don't let those bugs adhere...of course you could have a real throaty sexy voice by Friday to go with that dress.... :hot:

Funny, when my kids drove me nuts...now I just laugh at them....I used to say that I was going to go out on the 401 and speed, just to get thrown in jail for a good nights rest! I was serious!
Try changing your name from MOM for a day and not telling them what it is...

There, made it through 3 pages....chatty bunch we are.
However, I really appreciate the chatter...sorry bunch that we are...I thought that apologizing was a Cannuck thing??? eh?

Chins up and in, tummies tucked and :) ...you never know...

Ceara...
:queen: of the red wine tonight

WHY SO MEN THINK WE KNOW WHERE EVERYTHING IS IN THE HOUSE?INCLUDING THERE STUFF. DA. I JUST LOVE IT WHEN MY HUSBAND SAYS "HONEY WHERES MY BOOTS, WHERES MY SOCKS, WHERES MY UNDERWWEAR, COAT .LIGHTER,CIGS, COFFEE.UUUUGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! I DONT KNOW.:dizzy:

Storming Thursday!

Its heeerrrrreeeee!!!! The storm has arrived!

About 1 1/2" out there so far, and its not quite 5:15am-

So I'm off to get out there early and have enough time for whatever there is I find!

PS -- I try to have something to read for those times I'm waiting in the car and the best guilt free way for me to read is on the stationary bike or the treadmill!!

Today's thought is:

'If Columbus had turned back, no one would have blamed him, but then no one would have remembered him either "

To the best possible choices!

anagram 12-05-2002 06:22 AM

Looks like I've been missing a lot of interesting posts. Just time for a quickpost. Did not have a weigh in yesterday. DH is in intensive care. Complex situation. A very sick puppy.

So I'll be doing the challenge in my heart (and so far have not really blown it - took him to emergency Monday so that's pretty good for me). But it will probably be a while and you might want to remove me from the list.

Wishing you all loads of losses.

Arabella 12-05-2002 07:34 AM

Anagram, sending good wishes and healing energy to your husband. Remember to take good care of yourself through this. We all care about you.

Amarantha, you're so right about people fearing what they don't understand, what doesn't conform to their established boundaries. To some extent, I feel like I've lived a lot of my life reining myself in so that people don't find me too weird (my only friend in highschool dropped me because people thought I was weird and she wanted to be popular - still painful!). But as I get older, I'm trying to just be myself, because otherwise, what's the point of life!

Eydie, my body is also keen to hold on to every ounce. I'd like to think of this as a positive, a la "I don't have to eat very much," but since I like to eat very much it's a little problematic. My MIL is 87 years old, 5 foot nuthin' and not overweight, but can really pack the food away. This is complicated by her being from the south and of an era where women were supposed to have dainty appetites, so she frequently says she only wants a bite and then sends me back to the kitchen for seconds and thirds. Cute!

Wildfire, sending you some healing vibes too! Why the noive of those germs - don't they know you're Queen of Cape Breton! Hope you feel perfect by time for the party!

Senamay, I have a pet theory about why men can't find stuff around the house. It's genetic! Goes back to prehistoric times when men were hunters and women were gatherers. This explains why men are fascinated by moving objects (footballs, baseballs, hockey pucks) and can easily spot them, but can't see the jar of mayonaise which just sits there (although right in front of them) in the fridge.

Kaylets, I like your approach to waiting in the car. My mom always did that too, or she would happily just sit and watch whatever was going on around her. I'm bad about waiting, especially if I don't know exactly (and I mean exactly) how long I'm going to have to wait. I'm sure it all goes back to the problems of being General Manager of the Universe. Still trying to quit!

I'm going to put my stories into a single file and then post them in a separate message so they don't get lost in the shuffle. I'm sorry, though, I don't have any digital copies of anyone else's stories. Although my husband has some poetry in it and I might be able to send it too....

Ceara, KidLit must have been a fun study. I just recently came across a kid's book that I'd been looking for most of my adult life, "The Wind on the Moon." It had been out of print and a publisher that was focused on reissuing great forgotten books put it out. It's great! I just found another one on Amazon, "The Golden Pine Cone." Now, how to slyly get DH to buy for me for Christmas... :s:

Ellis, I know how you feel with your 13 year old daughter reading over your shoulder. Why my 53 year old husband was doing the same thing last night!

Autumn, glad your mammogram went well. It is a little daunting trying to keep up with all the posts, isn't it. I sometimes resolve to just do a quick daily post and then send a long one once a week. But I work at my computer all day and end up sneaking back in..... have to break that habit if I want to get any work done.

:queen: Punkin, if AR were God I would get religion quick! Yeah! My SIL stopped by last night and was talking about the Harry Potter movie. Said she really liked it but that HRH AR wasn't in it enough for her liking. And then we enthused about him for a good 15 minutes. She said that one of the things she really likes about him is that he's totally devoted to his partner (is there anything sexier than a good husband/daddy?!) who is not a ravishing beauty but apparently brilliant.

Okay, time for me to go have coffee with my son. I should be working, but --- ah, I'll work later! Love to all!

Let's make this a good one! :cb:

ellis 12-05-2002 07:44 AM

Anagram.... I'll be saying prayers for you and your DH. love and hugs... :grouphug:

deleted2 12-05-2002 08:35 AM

Anagram, we're all sending you and your husband good healing thoughts. Please take care of yourself and thanks for checking in with us.

Arabella, Thank you for the offer to share your stories---I graciously accept!:D Please add me to the list!

Wildfire, I sincerely hope that you're feeling better and that your illness was just some weird short-lived fluke!

Ceara, I LOVE books-on-tape!I listened to all 4 of the HP books read by the author you mentioned. You're right, he's excellent! A few years ago I listened to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles read by Frank Muller, another excellent reader. My job is cook at a continuing education center and the director always managed to walk in during the 'dirty parts'--made for some interesting conversation!:o :D

Kaylets, While you do something serene and classy like reading during your time on the bike or treadmill, I squander my time by watching trashy TV! Woohoo! I figure I can justify it then. Maybe there'll be a nice juicy Divorce Court on today....

Well, we're officially snowed/iced in today! I love it but the challenge is not to spend the day eating. Also, We're giving gourmet gift baskets this year that we're assembling ourselves so our spare bedroom is overflowing with exotic treats---about 3 feet away from me. I've thrown a blanket over them and if I don't see them I'm not that tempted. That's my plan, anyway!:)

ceara 12-05-2002 08:35 AM

Hi

Arabella, I think our library has both those...Wind on the moon - Linklater? and the golden pinecone..Clark? I've requested both..on your recommendation and will read..also would love to read your stories. Add me to the list?

Mammogram ladies. I know not the most comfortable, but are very important...a helpful tool and if you get a good technician (usually a woman is best) to do the deed, they are tolerable. The consequences of not having them is worse.

Anagram, keeping you and DH in thoughts today.

Eydie, thou posteth whilst I doth! (geez that's hard, I feel my brain stretching!). I listeneth to BOT all the time whilst I drive in my carriage. Cannotst tolerate the drivel on the radio. Bestest part is that thou canst rewind and hear those "hot spots" again! :o

Have a great day all! Friday is coming!

Fly-by post ...

Flying in on my Christmas sleigh to post quickly so's I can get three stories finished before flying out to interviews! Ho! Ho! Ho! :jig: Amarantha is still in bed, so this post is by The Overseer! (You don't want to know who that is!) :)

Anagram: Wishing you and your DH the best! So sorry this is visited upon you at this time and hoping things get better. Please keep updating us!

Arabella: I would love to read your stories, too. Where are you going to post them? I never seem to be able to open attachments on this site ... my weird computer. I wouldn't post them in your journal or anything like that if I were you, though, as you'd lose control of them. Again, congratulations!!! P.S. I've also been dropped because I'm weird!! Ain't it grand? This is also the reason I closed down my journal on 3FC.

Eydie, Ceara: I also love books on tape! Great for people who basically work in their cars all day! The first book on tape I ever listened to was "Communion" by Whitley Streiber (sp?), read by Roddy McDowell. It so totally spooked me, I listened to it over and over when I was in the car.

Autumn: Glad for the good mammogram news and BTW, Senamay, it could hurt much more NOT to have one, so go for it!!

Kaylets: Thanks for the reminder on the flat tire concept!! That's really something to think about! Sorry thy Harry post got dumped. Wouldst have liked to hear thy thoughts on ol' Harry!

Wildfire: Sorry thou hast razor blades in thy throat! I'm no doc, but that doesn't sound good! Get better soon!

Ellis: Amarantha apologizeth if her post on apologizing offended thee! :cp: :cb: Or wast thou apologizing because of the apologies that caused A. to post on apologies OR ... !!!!It be nice to have thee here, Ellis!!! Woo-hoo!

That's as far down the page as A. can see, so to all who might be on the other pages that A. hath not replied to, well, apologies!!!

Bye!!!

Anagram-so sorry hubby isn't well. I have been down that road. Remember to accept the help that is offered to you. You are strong, but taking care of yourself and being there for hubby emotionally is what is important right now.

Kaylets-what area is snowing? Although watching the weather channel, quite a few places are getting the white stuff. My bf watches the weather channel ea day before work. We washes semi trucks. If there is any sight of rain, there is no business. It si busy, if the trucks just got out of snow tho, all the crud to wash off.

Eydie-stay out of the pantry today. I used to go suck on icecicles when I had days like those.

Wildfire-take care of yourself! To everyone else, Happy Thursday! I have to clean today. No more computer time. Why is December cookie season? I am never going to make goal if the cookies don't stay away from me!!!! ~flower

Punkinseed 12-05-2002 11:51 AM

Happy Friday eve everyone!!

Christmas shopping Saturday... I can't believe how fast this month is going!

Arabella - Obviously I didn't read your other post thoroughly! Congratulations on getting published!!!! :cb: That's got to be SO exciting! Thank you for including the link to your work, I look forward to reading this afternoon!
About Alan Rickman - yes, something quite attractive about a man that devoted. It's my understanding they've been together over 30 years and she's some sort of economics professor. I do however, wonder about someone who never marries after over 3 decades... but I guess if it's not broke don't fix it right?

Anagram - My thoughts are with you and your husband. I hope he's doing much better very soon. Please keep us posted.

Ellis - Seems we got on an apology kick! No one offended anyone, just sometimes I think we have a *fear* of offending - since we all like each other so much and essentially this is like email - it's very hard to convey emotion, kidding, humor, etc...

Wildfire - No, you can't be sick!! :nono: I'm sorry... hopefully in the next couple days you can get some rest and feel at least 1/2 human by the party (I hopeIhope).

Senamay - I'm with ya. When does the plane for the Bahamas leave?? Bags are packed, just say the word...

Ceara - I wore thongs when I was at a healthy weight (I won't say "skinny"). They are pretty comfy, but you have to get used to them.
Thank you also for saying what you did about mammograms. I haven't had the (dis)pleasure yet since I'm 32 with no family cancer history, but my Mom's 3 calcification "spots" - 2 found 3 years ago and 1 just last week - were both found on mammograms. Thankfully she's fine, but you always wonder about the "what if" - if you don't have a mammogram you don't know WHAT could be going on.

Kaylets - Hey, send some of that snow this way would ya'? I can't believe it's December and yesterday it RAINED!!! Of course then it froze so everything looks shalacked... Snow is easier to drive on than this stuff and it doesn't *look* like winter darn it!

Ok, I should get some work done so tomarrow is as "work-free" as possible.

Terri
