Yoga Fail Moment

  • So this week I have started to incorporate exercise. I have several DVD's, many of them part of the 10 min solution series, etc etc.

So for Monday and Tuesday, I did some beginners cardio (because I am apparently not coordinated enough to do much of anything else. and I took dance for years as a kid ) and today I decided to switch it up and pulled out my old Yoga DVD.

I haven't done Yoga in maybe 8 years, but I used to love it... before I broke my ankle and couldn't do jack poo.

Anyway, so me and my 4 year old daughter are doing yoga in our room. My body is cracking and popping and it actually felt quite good.. and my daughter...She's not half bad for a 4 years old ! But needless to say there were a few positions we were both doing modified. Then we are doing a series of back bend poses. (And they were in a quicker sequence because this section is supposed to be calorie burning) anyway, I'm in the middle of my camel pose sequence, and as I'm starting to undo the back bend (while sitting on knees) to go into the next position.... I guess I must have pinched something in my back because next thing I know I'm waking up face down on the floor! I wasn't out for more than a few seconds and my daughter was sitting next to me going "Mommy? Mommy? Are you ok? Is it bedtime now?" but it was definitely a "Whoa! That wasn't good!" moment.

I think I'll be leaving the camel poses alone for a little while.

Just wanted to share my silly little Yoga Fail with all of you!

  • Yikes! lol Glad you are ok.
  • LOL!!! I'm glad you were okay.
  • Yes, but I definitely feel the need to run upstairs and take some Advil

  • YIKES- you kowI hurt my back in yoga doing a similar pose a cople of months ago and haven't been back since!
  • Hope that Advil takes care of things!

Yoga is something that I'd love to get into again but I honestly don't feel strong (or confident) enough to join a class at my local gym.
  • No Stacy, I didn't know that!

I did a lot of yoga when I was in college. It really helped with my back problems. I majored in music on the Double Bass (6ft tall violin looking thing) and not only is the instrument heavy, but playing in advanced positions leaves you leaning over the bass in awkward positions. I used the yoga to become more limber and able to maneuver my body around this giant instrument better, and to make my back stronger as well. Standing for hours on end left me with alot of lower back problems... and the yoga helped alot.

Unfortunately, those positions do not help with my carpel tunnel! My hands would fall asleep often during yoga sessions but at the time, the benefit outweighed the "side effects".

I guess now I get to add face plant into the side effects category.

Kahokkuri- have you considered getting a DVD? There are a ton of them on Amazon. You won't catch my big butt in a gym or exercise class anytime soon! lol

  • I don't like doing the camel pose...when the instructor moves into it (which isn't often, thank goodness!) I always find some kind of modification to do. Glad to hear that you are ok!
  • I go to Moksha hot yoga. At home I will do the Namaste dvd. It is quite active. In addition to the strength and stretching, I get some aerobic stuff going.
I too have trouble with back bends, and if i do them at all, it is always the easiest modification of the pose. I have trouble breathing in these positions. (I have sleep apnea, and suspect there is some constriction of the airways there).
    Hope you are ok.
