I have the exact same problem. Right around day 5 I start getting desperate. I may have to try the milk of magnesia.

Are you taking a multivitamin pill by any chance? I was having unusual trouble the last couple of months even though I get a lot of fiber (over 25g every day, often quite a lot more) and drinking plenty of liquids. I tried "improving" on everything until this week I tried not taking the women's daily multivitamin, and ... it was almost immediately clear that that was the problem. It's probably the iron, although calcium can do it too. The reason I didn't think of it was that I always took a multivitamin before and never had the problem -- a different brand though, and they were prenatal vitamins. There must have been something different about the mix.

Day 6 today. Feel slightly uncomfortable. If I don't go tomorrow, I'm going to take a psyllium husk laxative.

If you don't like prunes, have you ever tried Fiber One Bars? Two of those should give you some results.

Uh, yeah - I'll agree with the Fiber One bars. Those of us who DON'T have issues should probably stay away from those! And keep them away from kids, too!

Fiber one bars just make me gassy and more uncomfortable.

Krampus, they have some stuff called Senna Tea. I try that occasionally if I get too desperate.

I just made some gag-worthy super strong coffee and that seems to be helping me.

Good luck!

6 days! Yes, If I were you, I'd clear my schedule for the day, and eat oatmeal with flaxseed and cashews, a fiber one bar, several probiotics, and wash it down with prune juice!!

And stock up on some good magazines.

On another note, I bought some activia and prune juice today. Dieting slows me down too.

I agree with Pint Sized Terror. I make a cup of this once a week and that seems to keep everything moving for me, since I don't drink coffee. It tastes like black licorice, so if you don't like that favor, like my roommate, you won't like it.

I drink a specific tea for this problem. I use "Get It Going" from Whole Foods, my mom found "Smooth Move" at her local health food store. You drink it before bed, have a BM when you wake up.

It works!

Get It Going tea doesn't have the bad taste that a PP mentions with Smooth Move. I don't know how to post pics, but it's in a blue cylinder container.

I wouldn't suggest adding a bunch of fiber until after you've gone. Adding so much fiber when you're already constipated can often just make it worse and more painful. Fiber is to prevent, not treat current back ups.

Senna tea or milk of magnesia would be good solutions that don't use stimulants to get the job done.

Hello, my long-lost twin!

I am the same way as spixiet. My morning coffee does the trick, but I must take time and enjoy the coffee (that's one of the reasons I get up fairly early and give myself plenty of time before I go to work).
Typically I get rather uncomfortable if I don't have BM every day. Fortunately, those episodes are quite rare and often, if it does not happen in the a.m., it happens in the evening but it throws my regular morning off for a day or two.
I cannot imagine not going 3 or 4 days.

Fiber One bars definately help.
I take the Smooth Move Tas sometimes... I have a chocolate flavored one that I really like.
I eat Cashews almost each day on my salad and haven't seen that it helps. Coffee helps me though...

I've wondered too why I am experiencing this when I am eating so well but I am guessing it has something to do with the increases of protein in my diet.
