Does anyone else use this? I joined today and I was puting in my weight and goal weight and everything, it said I can eat 2400 calories a day and lose 2 pounds per week! Could this be accurate?? I'm very big, 290 pounds, and I want to be 150 by 4/29/12, it said that it was an attainable goal, which is great! I'm afraid to eat that many calories though!
Then I got to thinking...maybe I'm not losing weight because I'm eating too few calories?? I always thought that was ridiculous, I mean look at the poor kids in Ethiopia, they aren't eating and they are skin and bones so I can barely wrap my head around "eat more to lose weight" but I'm wondering if that might be accurate...
It will vary from individual to individual -- for me, it's quite off, unfortunately. FitDay tells me I can eat 2000 and still lose weight, but from my experience, I lose on 1200-1400, maintain on 1600-1800, and slowly gain on 2000. (+ eating back whatever extra exercise I do for the day.)
Its about the same for me. I use fitday to track my calories, protien, etc and find it useful for that, however wish that I could find one that had a better library of foods, and exercises in it. It constantly tells me that I should be able to lose weight at around 1800 a day but maintain at that. I have been losing but have been keeping my calories between 12-1400.
I am using FitDay and loving it. I too think the key is to mark your lifestyle as sedentary, mine is (office type work).
I have been keeping my cals between 1500 and 1600 and have lost consistanly so far, but its also the first week for me and that is always the fastest weight loss, so I'll check again next week and see if that amt is still working for me. Fitday did say that with 1200 cals I could meet my goal by August....which is tempting....but I'm in for the long haul so I'll stick with a more reliable cal amt for now.
When I weighed 300, I would have lost on 2400. I ate more like 1500-2000 (it changed over time), but I lost pretty quickly: over 2 lbs a week for the first 75 lbs or so. At 2400 and 300 lbs, I suspect I'd have lost a pound or more a week.
I use both Fitday and Fatsecret. I like Fatsecret because it has MANY choices in foods, exercises and such.. and there are a lot of other things to play around with. Plus, I think they may be more accurate but I have no clue.. Fitday and Fatsecret calculate things fairly closely but not exact.
