So I've been doing great... But today I had about 350 calories of some boxed pasta stuff and 45 minutes later I am not only starving but also craving all my old favorites: chocolate, icecream, cookies, cake.
I was diagnosed with Celiac 7 weeks ago. I miss pasta like mad.... I accidentally had some croutons in my salad, and I had a terrible reaction. A good reminder for NOT to have any.
I think I will end up losing a nice chunk of weight now that I am pasta/bread/grain free. A blessing I suppose....
When I get those cravings, I usually reach for a protein bar in peanut butter and chocolate flavor. It soothes that craving for sweets and chocolate but also REALLY fills me up. The one I usually eat is 200 cals and offers 20 g protein. Another one I like is 310 cals and 32 g protein.
i had to give up pasta, too. i don't want a "portion" size, which is 2 oz (!) i want a huge bowl of it, and then another huge bowl of it, and then i'm sad that it's gone. can't keep it in the house.
ugh, pasta is so useless to me. I eat a huge bowl and then am hungry an hour later. what a waste! same goes for any starchy carb really. In fact, sometimes AS I'M EATING it I feel hungrier! crazy.
I count calories and definitely eat my carbs, but the further I get with this, the more I am understanding that pasta and bread can be dangerous concoctions for me. I had a very sensible subway sub one day and I was climbing the WALLS to eat more.
Sum38, I was just talking to a lady at work the other day whose daughter was diagnosed with Celiac. She was obviously disturbed and overwhelmed, but was talking about how the whole family is going to have to get on board with the diet. She is overweight, her husband has type 2 diabetes, I couldn't help but think of it as an opportunity for the whole family to get healthy. My conversation with her just made it so obvious to me what all this processed food and wheat is probably doing to all of us in this last century or so. I don't really have the guts to cut it all out the way you and they have to do now, but I am very aware that doing so would be a really, really healthy way to eat. I bet those cravings of yours will pass soon and you will be feeling amazing.
Have you tried eating whole wheat pasta? I find that the wheat pasta sticks with me much longer than white refined pasta. I also love the enriched high fiber white pasta (catelli smart) . Moderation can be hard with those foods though
