The Mirror Test

  • I have not avoided mirrors in the past, but I never lingered over them for very long. So last night, having lost 63 pounds to date, I decided to give myself the mirror test.
This was rough. Buck naked and gazing at myself critically in front of a full length mirror. Now bear in mind, that while it was certainly not as good as I would like to be, I was still impressed at the changes. I can most definitely see the vast improvement. I am starting to be able to see some muscle definition, and all droopy parts are much less droopy, although I still havent lost the droop. Not sure I ever fully will, but here's hoping.
The only thing I saw that actually appalled me was my inner thighs. Now, I carried most of my extra weight in my belly. At 80+ pounds overweight, obviously the rest of me was larger too, but I never had the terrible "thunderthighs" that many women are plagued with. My thighs are noticeably thinner, but I noticed that high on my inner thighs, where they do still, sadly, touch, I have folds of wrinkly flesh. I yelled out to my husband. "OMG, I have old lady thighs!!"
Anyway, I know that it takes the body a bit to catch up to weight loss, and such things are common, but honestly..the look was dreadful. In the meantime, and to maybe speed the catch up, what the heck can I do about this horrid sight?
  • Well, Spanx! They really do help, under clothing.

How often are you going around buck nekkid anyway?

If it's bathing suits you're worried about, there are some flattering items that you can wear when not in the water that will cover your upper thigh area.

Good luck! And congratulations on your loss!

  • I have read elsewhere, and have noticed myself, that every now and then I will find badly sagging skin like you are describing on your thighs. I have it there myself at the moment. Then I find that the scale will plunge within the next week and THAT is the place where inches will come off. Something is happening in there.

That's my theory anyway. Eventually my skin always seems to catch up.

That has always been my experience in the past, and I am seriously hoping this follows the same pattern. But it was so much worse than any other spot I have noticed, that it made me do a double take.
  • My inner thighs have ALWAYS touched, even when I was underweight gah! I hate my cellulite too.
