Well I apologize for reminding the OP that she made a very similar post one month ago, that received quite a bit of advice, but I personally thought that was relevant.

You can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results.

I'll tell you how I personally overcame my own late night binges. Hopefully you'll find something that works for you from all the great suggestions everyone has given

It all came down to mind games for me. When I finally stepped into the realm of calorie counting where I was given a calorie daily "limit", it just clicked almost instantaneously. I was determined to stay in that limit, and the nice thing is you can still eat what you want reasonably. Eventually when I began seeing results I started to eat more healthily.

Also, people tend to do really well at the start of the day and then cave in to all the temptations at night (such was my case back before CCing), so as someone else once suggested, you can consider your nights "the start of the day." I really sympathize and I hope you can overcome your nightly inner zombie-mode... good luck!

I don't think anyone wants to see you leave. It seems like since you are actually going out to buy the food every night, people were trying to find a solution. Some of us also literally have junk food at are finger tips, for example there's a pack of brownies in the kitchen and left over pizza in the fridge my family bought, but I'm resisting it. If you want to lose the weight badly enough, you have to dig deep and stop binging at night. Just do it for a week and you'll see it gets easier.

Again, if your swipey card works the way mkendrick is describing it, you can still try to count calories. And if all the college and university is offering is junk food and snacks, I really encourage you to try and speak up to someone in the school. With more and more people becoming health conscious and with so many people getting obese, I can't imagine them not even offering some fresh fruit for snacks.

I'm just thrilled that you were able to sort through this ruckus and actually find a little help.

Please do stick around. Because usually there really is some good information and ideas to be had. It will be up to you though to sift through it all and separate the good from the not so good.

Don't leave - there were a few posts I thought were borderline rude, but for the most part this is a very helpful, supportive place. We all struggle or we wouldn't be here, and I think you'll find a lot of compassion (usually) mixed in with the brutal honesty approach.

In any case, night snacking is hard, but the key thing is to keep healthy snacks on hand to battle it. Hopefully your convenience store has some options that are more nutritious, that's what I'd spend the food points money on.

Also, as someone said, going to sleep is an excellent way to curb late night eating. And your body will thank you for the extra rest. When I get munchie, I drink some water, have an apple, and/or go to sleep.

Yes, like others have said, don't leave just because of a few people. Most of us know where you're coming from and definitely feel your pain on this. Hopefully some of the useful advice posted here will work for you

When I was at college, we didn't have cards, but we did have to pay for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the college. Once you pay for that, you don't have extra money to get healthy groceries or even eat out healthy if you can find a place. I remember being FURIOUS, absolutely FURIOUS, at the junk that was offered. I'm sure the anger burned a few calories, lol. And even if the OP agitates for better, it takes a long time to implement that.

This was a long time ago and in Canada, so not exactly the same situation, but what I did was lose the weight during the summers when I could sublet a place and do my own cooking and get out more to exercise. I also sometimes visited off campus friends who were kind enough to cook healthy for me.

So, OP, hang in there.

hey, i have this problem too i'm just starting back trying to eat healthier but last time (i managed to loose about 40lbs) low fat hot chocolate drinks were a GODSEND! one of those at night usually helped curb the craving as it was so delicious and sweet it FELT as though it was far worse than it really was i'm at uni just now but i have my own flat off campus so i dont have to eat at refectory all day but if i did wow i'd put on so much weight there - even though my uni has fresh fruit etc the actual meals look so bad! x

Q: How do I stop eating at night?
A: Stop wasting hard earned money on crap.

If it's a use it or lose it situation, then lower your swipy card amount, or buy the healthiest non-perishable things you can find and take them to the food bank.
This was exactly what I was trying to do/say. When she said, "I'm not spending my hard-earned money", I thought maybe appealing to the fact that she was *wasting* someone else's hard-earned money might help put it in perspective. I guess I was off.

I wasn't trying to offend or be snarky, but I'm not one to sugar-coat my thoughts on issues either.
