I've never felt ANYTHING like it before!

  • I was working out today like I normally do. Playing dance dance revolution on my playstation. Worked up a pretty good sweat allthough not to the extreme. I was not that tired either. Suddenly after 40 minutes of dancing my heart started racing, like SERIOUSLY! I could feel it almost popping out of my chest..and it had this weird rhythm too..almost like a horse running. ba-ba-bom ba-ba-bom ba-ba-bom...And I stopped dancing emediatly and tried to sit down but that didn't help either right away and I was thinking "This is it. There's no one home to help me. I'm gonna die". Fortunately for me (haha, that's an understatement really) it calmed down after 2 minutes or so...but that seriously freaked me out.... I mean, am I doing something wrong to make it act like that? I thought eating healthy and exercising would make the body better. Anyone else who has felt something like this before?

I'm kinda scared to go back to exercising again because I'm scared it will happen again and it was just a really bad feeling..
  • You need to check with your doctor about this issue.
  • Are you on thryoid meds?

I can get palpitations if my thyroid level fluctuates and what was a good dose becomes too much.

Or onions. They can cause palpitations. It's weird. But did you eat onions?
  • You are probably too young, but sometimes in perimenopause or menopause you will get heart palpitations. I would check with the doctor though for peace of mind.
  • I used to have anxiety attacks when I weighed more. Out of the blue it would just happen, with heart rates like the one yours sounded like. I went to a dr and got put on some anti-anxiety medication. There were also factors involved like depression, etc. I worked through it, and I'm not off the medication for over a year!
  • Hey. thanks for the answers everyone.
I am 22 so it's not menopause..My mom had this when she was younger and she told me today that my grandfather had it too. But there doesn't seem to be any reason for it I would think. I don't know. it was just weird. I did eat onion though. I had no idea onions could cause that.. But I don't know if it's dangerous...
  • It is better to be safe than sorry. Have a doctor check it out!
  • It has happened to me. I really dislike it so I am pretty careful not to over do it when I exercise. I do have anxiety issues.
  • Anything that throws your heart rhythm off that much could be potentially life-threatening. Best to get checked out by a doc.

  • You should really go to a doctor. You're too young and you don't weigh enough for dancing to effect you like that. But then again, all we can give you is our opinion and we don't know your whole history. When it comes to your heart, it's serious and it needs to be discussed with a medical professional.
  • Definitely go see a doctor. Any kind of irregular heart beat or tachycardia warrants a visit to your doctor at the least, a cardiologist if you're really worried or it happens again.

I had a condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) which would cause me to have episodes where my heart would race (upwards of 300 beats a minute or more) I would get dizzy, light headed, have chest pain, I wouldn't be able to catch my breath... I had it since I was born, but had corrective surgery at 11. Before the surgery I couldn't do strenuous exercise or activity, get emotionally agitated or consume caffeine or lots of sugar or in general exert myself at all or do anything that would raise my heart rate or blood pressure. My case was serious tho, most people who have it don't get symptoms until between the ages of 11-50 and then it's only intermittently and episodes usually only last a few minutes.

I'm not saying that's what happened to you, and I'm not a doctor or anything. I'm just illustrating that any heart irregularity is worth checking out, because it could be serious, and it's always better to be sure.
  • Advice that I received from an EMT friend of mine...

Anything that feels unusually weird regarding your HEART, LUNGS (breathing) or HEAD ...please! - see your doctor. If it is incredibly painful (sudden onset of headache or can't breathe properly, etc) GO TO THE E.R.

    Hope you're feeling ok!!
  • Thanks guys. I think I might go to get it checked actually..was really weird. I'm fine now though. Don't feel any irregularities at all..was just for a few minutes...but better safe than sorry.
