  • I've noticed a few that I'd like to share:

    - Increased "coldness". I've noticed that I'm always cold now. My coworkers talk about me because it's May and I'm sitting under a heater at work!

    - The "noticeable" rings under my eyes. These did not become noticeable until I lost weight.

    - Lighter cramps/cravings associated with TOM. Maybe because I'm not eating as much refined flour, but my cravings are nowhere near as bad as they used to be. And my craps aren't as bad either.

And I've definitely noticed a few of the "symptoms" listed above - most notably, more energy and I don't know if this one could be attributed to problems falling asleep - but I don't nap like I used to and I don't sleep in habitually anymore.
  • Well, my TTOM is just the opposite as what everyone else has had. It is much longer and is coming more frequent. I went to the gyno and was completely checked out. The only thing the Gyno can figure is that my weightloss has disrupted my normal hormonal balance and caused estrogen dominance.
  • Quote: I can't say that I experienced any of these.

-- Hunger (duh) ...eh, not really. I get munchies before TOM, but mostly I just get the desire to eat (bored, stressed, etc). Not hunger.
-- Muscle aches, even when not exercising ...not really. I was sore the first two or three days after exercising initially. Nothing since.
-- Tiredness/fatigue ...occasionally, but no more than normal after long days. I actually have an improved attitude which gives me more energy.
-- Or, extra energy ...so yea, I guess this one might imply. Part of that is from increased self esteem and optimism though.
-- Problems falling asleep or staying asleep ...I've never been a good sleeper, but I've found that regular exercise has helped me be tired at bedtime and go to sleep quickly.
-- Moodiness and irritability, especially when eating fewer carbs ...I haven't restricted my carbs much, so I'm not sure. But again, improved optimism/attitude = less irritability.

One thing I did notice, is "mushy fat" before I'd start losing in an area. I've seen others on here describe the same phenomenon. At my highest weight before I started losing, my belly fat was just kind of firm jello. And 20lbs down, it stayed about the same size with the same firm jello feel. Finally, it got this gross soft squishy feeling. Almost instantly after I noticed the mushy fat, my stomach started getting noticably smaller. I then saw a thread of somebody else who had noticed the same thing. My inner thighs are starting to get mushy, so I'm hoping I'll lose some of that bulge soon too.
The mushy fat thing is helpful! I have noticed that too. It was really bothersome.

On the symptom of not being able to Stay Asleep- that was so true for me last night when I even took a Benadryl that knocks me out for hours yet I could only sleep 3! I wonder why fat loss would make me wake up? You'd think the body would try to preserve energy for more rest, like its trying to do now!
  • Oh, the sleep thing is so interesting! I always have trouble falling asleep a few days before a big 'whoosh'. Last night it took me two hours to drift off, and this morning I hopped on the scale and I'd lost nearly two pounds!
  • Hmmm... makes me wonder if the "sleep" thing is because of the weight or a symptom of the weight...? I've had trouble sleeping all my life, i.e. trouble falling asleep (no matter how tired I am) and trouble *staying* asleep (wake up several times during the night) and then BIG TROUBLE waking up (on time) in the mornings.

Does this make me fat(ter)? or does the fat make the sleep more troublesome?

    Hmmmm.....
  • MKendrick, the mushy fat thing is happening to me right now. I first noticed it at about 25 pounds lost and posted about it. Then a couple weeks later noticed I was firmer again. I'm nearing my 50 pounds lost now and I'm really mushy in the lower stomach and thighs this time where it was in the upper stomach and rear last time.

So it looks like every 25 pounds I'm having Mushy Fat Syndrome LOL.

I've noticed some of these effects, but mine are not really negative. I don't really get too hungry because I Calorie Count and space my meals and snacks out so that I never really get too hungry. My old way of doing things was to not eat till I was starving then pig out. I used to be tired all the time and need naps, and I don't anymore. I fall asleep better and more quickly now. The need to go to the bathroom wakes me up more often with all this water, though.

My aches and pains are getting sooo much better! My TOM was really light and easy the first couple months on plan, but now it's going back to normal. I am finding that instead of PRE-menstrual moodiness, I am getting it the couple days after TOM leaves. Weird.

I'd love to hear from others who've been dealing with Mushy Fat. It was definitely something I wasn't expecting.
  • Re: the mushy fat -- my thighs are in that mode now. I keep touching them because they feel so odd and the fat is so loose. I thought at first it was loose skin, but it isn't. It's like the underlying fat is mushy and it used to be firm.

It would be great if this is a precursor to slimmer thighs!
