Unhappy Vacation support

I'm on vacation and eating poorly. I need some support so I don't undo all of my hard work. It seems, though, when I'm traveling, that to eat every chance I get, because I don't know when the next time is that I'll get some good food. It doesn't help that I was in Poland for the last week (land of meat and bread) and now I'm in Germany (beer, meat, and bread). I miss my veggies and salad and all the benefits of all of these, but it seems the mentality of "I don't know if or when I'm eating dinner" and "I might never have the opportunity to try this again" win out. Inspire me to not suck! I had a salad today for lunch that was covered in mayo/mustard dressing. I hate both of those things. It's tricky when you don't speak or read the language to get what you need. I have an orange for tomorrow, but beyond that I can't really plan. I had been keeping track of my food with loseit app, but it seems pointless on vacation. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Vacations are rough, especially when you don't have the language skills to know what you're getting. They're temporary, and sometimes, all you can do is your best.

I found this article, which recommends going heavy on the rye bread and cabbage and sauerkraut, for their fiber and vitamins:

You might try watching your portions pretty carefully, and eating the veggies on your plate first.

If you're not sure what you're ordering at all, here's a guide of regional specialties with translations...that might help you identify the things likely to be lighter:

Most of all, know that this is temporary, you're doing the best you can, and that eventually you'll be back in your home and routines.

And I'm not sure if you're in an area where you can safely run, but at least try to get in lots and lots of walking...both for the exercise and to see the sights!

One thing you can employ is portion control and you can also work on having a light breakfast to help compensate for heavier meals.

I'm one of those that I actually don't worry about food on vacation but end up walking and being so active that I end up losing weight by the time I get home.

Totally agree with the other posts that the main focus should be portion control. I think vacation is when you should not be so strict on all your normal plan, but just eat reasonable portions of good food and don't go overboard.

Your weight loss journey should support you living your life not make you stress about every little thing.

Find a median between normal at home plan, and all day binging at a dessert buffet Enjoy the trip!

Cool

Thanks, you guys. It's funny that you mention it, but the Bristol hotel in Warsaw has a chocolate buffet on Sundays. I didn't go, but I thought it was funny. I have been eating as many veggies as I possibly can and going to supermarkets for oranges. So that's a small success. My tendencies with this diet verge on being a little extreme, and I recognize that, having worked in the eating disorder field. That's why I love this place. Keeps me in check. Peace.

I travel a lot and live in Europe. I lived in the land of pasta (Italy) and the land of meat and bread (Germany). Luckily I made smart decisions. How about a salad before your meal. It will make you not as hungry and you get veggies. I usually lose weight while I'm on vacation, but I monitor what I eat. When I know I'm going to be traveling I bring fruit. Grab some apples, clementines, or something similar you can reach for when you want a snack. Just having this around will help you to stop obsessing about food. I also tend to freak because I don't know when I'll eat, so having something you can quickly grab to hold you over will help. Make an effort to eat healthy, but enjoy the food that is here. You've probably noticed that the portions here are absurd. Two people can eat off one plate, and both be completely stuffed. Make sure you are eating the right portions! Just keep going and enjoy your vacation!!!
