Default Snack Food Alternatives

Hi, My Husband and I have decided to finally reign in our weight and get healthy because we have three beautiful kiddos, and we need to be healthy for them!

Anyway, we have been eating healthy for about 3 weeks, with a much better more whole foods outlook with lots more veggies and not nearly as many processed foods. And we are really enjoying the foods, and amazed how much more flavor whole grains add, and re-introducing veggies that we have forgotten how yummy they are.

That being said, I am really missing snack foods and classic comfort foods, especially french fries. Yesterday, we went to Applebee's and I was "good" and got a healthy entree, but I just had to steal a french fry from my daughter's plate! It actually wasn't very good so I stopped at one, but I would love to go to Checker's or somewhere and get me some yummy fries! So does anyone have good alternatives to their fave snack food? Especially french fries!

Hubby is needing some healthy "munchy" alternatives, too.

TIA! I am loving 3FC so far!

Popcorn is good and pretty low calorie and in that genre.

My personal fav is in-shell sunflower seeds. Takes forever to get through 100-150 calories of those and helps with those salty cravings.

I'm not a huge veggie for a snack person, but sugar snap peas are fantastic and have a great flavor and crunch.

Giving up the french fry type food is tough I agree. I personally have a harder time with chips, I really miss those.

Or baked butternut squash. Or, I will slice up a potato, toss it in a teaspoon of olive oil, add some herbs and spices, and bake for a bit. Super yummy!

I have baked french fries as a substitute for ff but they just weren't the same. I have had better results with hashbrowns. I shred a potato and put the shreds in a hot nonstick skillet sprayed with Pam. I have a very thin layer of the potato shreds and then turn them over when the bottom gets crispy. This gives me that crisp potato feel that I missed.

Try raw almonds for a crunchy snack.

As for your fries, this recipe is the best-tasting one I've found. While they won't look as tasty as a fried fry, the taste is great!

PM me for the recipe...just found out I still can't post links. :\

Here's my fry recipe.

1 medium Potato

Preheat oven to 450°. Slice potato and cover lightly with cooking spray and season to taste (Tip: Put potato slices, spray, and pepper into gallon-size baggie. Inflate, seal, and shake to distribute evenly.). Empty onto cookie sheet and bake for 30 minutes.
