  • Well I went dress shopping today UGH!

First was David's Bridal and I did see a dress that I would wear but I needed it one size larger and of course they didn't have it. They called around and 2 other stores about an hour from me had it. The dress was $20 more because of course it was a plus size. Cost $238.

She said I could order it and they would ship it I forgot how much that cost. However they have a NO RETURN POLICY .....AT ALL

So I won't be ordering that.

Then I went to JC penny and they actually had a dress I would wear but of course it was the wrong color and it was a lot cheaper.

Then I went to Macy's and saw a dress in the color and size I need. The problem is I don't LOVE IT. It was not as nice as the David's Bridal dress. But I bought it just so I would have something. Definitely have to wear a body shaper under it. One of the reasons I bought it was they have a 6 month return policy. So if i find something else I can return it.

Now get this, the Bride went into her storage room and dug out a bridal dress that she bought @ 20 years ago when hoping to save it for when she got married. (She has a couple of them ) The dress is a size 10 and she's now a size 12. It doesn't fit and she's starving herself to get in this dress. Plus she said to me oh I want you to get something that you can use again. DUH ! I'm never going to wear this green dress again, period

So since this wedding is in about 6 weeks I'm going to go out again and look for another dress.
  • Matron of Honor Dress
Why not have one made. There are a lot of talented seamstresses who could make you a beautiful, custom made dress and it would fit perfectly.
  • I'm glad that you bought SOMETHING! It's your back-up with a generous return policy--bonus! I hope that it wasn't too expensive, especially since you never plan to wear it again. I would not even worry one little bit. As others have pointed out, all eyes will be on the Bride. Your job is to be supportive of her.

As my mother always said, "Nobody's looking at you!" All these years later, I realize that she's right. Most people are too interested in themselves to notice what you look like or are wearing. That is not to say that you should not be comfortable with what you are wearing. I encourage you to continue looking for a more suitable dress, but at least you have something. As Bargoo pointed out, you could have a dress custom made. But I fear that it would be far more expensive than something off the rack. I used to work as a tailor and have found that prices of fabrics, and patterns, have jumped in the last few years, enough so that sewing has become a luxury for me. I can usually find cheaper options on clearance racks. Since you have only 6 weeks until the wedding, you might very well find something on sale that is the end of the season but still very comfortable for the weather.

I'm sure that you will look beautiful anyway because weddings are such a joyous event and everyone is happy.
  • Well I did it! The wedding was 2 days ago and I got through it. It was a great wedding and like some people said all eyes were on the bride.

There were just 2 of us in the bridal party and we both had on different green dresses. She was the maid of honor and I was the matron of honor.

The bride was so happy to see me, it was just one big happy party. It was a nice size wedding about 145 people. Guess what? she even had trouble getting into her bridal gown which she bought over 20 years ago with the hopes of getting married one day. It took 3 of us to zip up that dress .

I just wanted to thank everyone for their words of encouragement. I thought about what everyone said up until the day of the wedding because I still had doubts about being in it. I just wanted it to be over. However it was a great day. Thanks again
