I quit drinking soda on a daily basis this summer, and I was like you, drank close to a 2 liter a day. I was drinking diet dr. pepper. I did have bad headaches for several days. My g.i. doc suggested I cut way back to help with my ibs symptoms and I did notice a difference. I still have 2 or 3 cans of diet soda a week usually at work and I consider it a real treat. I don't keep soda in the house and if I eat out I order unsweetened ice tea or chilly ice water with lemon. I drink mostly water and herbal teas that are naturally caffeine free.

Julia, I have always been a diet Coke drinker. I don't like the full sugar stuff at all. But the diet stuff, I found, was giving me a false sense of hunger. I would crack open a can right after I got to work, and then have my second can around 9 am. By then, I was starving. So most mornings now I do not have a diet Coke; instead, around 9 AM I make myself a big mug of hot tea and eat it with a bar of some kind that actually has some nutritional value. It gives me that little mid-morning break without getting me all juiced up on the diet Coke.

So for me, I would probably blame diet Coke for getting my stomach rumbling and thinking I was hungrier than I really was. In that way, it probably contributed to my weight gain. But I can't be sure about that. I mostly have noticed that my migraines are greatly reduced; for that reason alone, I'm happy to have cut way, way back.

Thumbs up Be good to your liver

Think about how much healthier your liver will be. When the liver is functioning properly, the better your matabolism is.

I quit drinking diet coke early this summer. The week that I quit (cold turkey) I lost 5 #'s!!!!! As for the headaches, I still get my caffeine fix with a cup of coffee in the morning and ice tea once I get home from work. All I drink anymore is water (about 96 oz) and ice tea. After a month or so of not drinking diet coke, I had a 20 oz bottle and didn't even finish half of it, it was too sweet and yucky for me!!
Good Luck, you can do it!!!!!

Yep, I quit drinking diet soda about 3 months ago. It was hard for a few days but it's actually the one thing I've stayed on track with unlike my food and exercise I also found that I would be really tired after drinking a soda and now I have a little more energy after deleting it from my daily routine. Good Luck!

I did it, and it was HARD and took time.
My first word was Coke... seriously, my mum put it in my bottle.
I used to drink a at least 10 diet Cokes a day.

I made attempts several times. Finally what stuck was a combo of keeping canned seltzers (not club soda as it has sodium) in my pantry. Our local store has them sold in cases just like cokes. They have different "essences" very slight flavor - really only the tiniest hint.

I like the lime one the best and also splurge on the weekends and buy Perrier sometimes.

I started at first by using stevia and lime juce in the seltzer. I also kept all kinds of cold teas (my fav. is a combo of rooibos tropica and dragon pearls from TeaVana) in the fridge. At first I allowed myself to have a couple of cokes a day but slowly (over like three months) I just stopped wanting them... They started to taste very chemical like to me.

Now I CAN'T believe it but I don't want them anymore. I LOVE good teas and am always making new combos..

You can do it, just keep on trying. Find what works for you. Cokes are the devil.. it's a chemical soup and it's horrid for us.
