This is a new food I have gotten into eating. Roasted Red Peppers. Love them in salad, sauces, all kinds of stuff. I had actually not eaten them before I started to branch out my food selection. I also love cucumbers and tomatoes chopped with basil and salt and pepper.

Fun thread! Thanks!

I have gotten to making a big pot of lentil soup and having it in the freezer. I do each batch with different spices so they are always different. If I need something quick and don't want to cook I always have a stash. Something about the texture just tastes so healthy to me. Tonight I put a cup of curried lentils on top of my gigantic salad instead of dressing. It filled me and was very enjoyable!

Oatmeal. I haven't eaten it in SOOO long. Raisins too. Never knew why I stopped eating them to begin with... I know I got sick of oatmeal (instant oatmeal) because I always felt it wouldn't fill me up and it made me hungrier. Now I add a little more water and it is majorly filling.

Another new favorite - carrots. I still can't eat them raw (texture issues - I'm an oddball ), but I absolutely love them cooked in anything. Yum.

When I lived at home, my mom made the rainbow (in veggies), so I was never out of touch with any particular type of food. It was only when I lived by myself or with my sis that we over-indulged in fast food that my mom would stop us from having. Pizza, fries, chinese food, etc. Feels good to get back to veggies and fruits.

I would have to say oatmeal for me too. Steel Cut Oats to be exact. I can't really think of anything else. I've always eaten fruits and veggies.

I have always hated onion... If they were put on a burger accidentally, I couldn't eat it. I was just way too picky about it.

Since starting this new way of eating, I have found onions to be a necessity in mini meatloafs, burgers etc... I also like onion in stewed squash from the garden... Yummm! I still cannot eat a raw crunchy onion though, ughhh!

And as far as carrots, i love them cooked, but i will not touch them raw. So you're not alone ;-)

jefferzzzz I am the opposite of you. I love raw carrots and raw onions, but hate both of them when you cook them. I really think onions added to a dish ruins it. It is funny how every one is different like that.

I really discovered how much I like zucchini. I never liked it growing up, but now it is my go to veggie.

Peaches.

When I took a bite of my first peach this year (and the first in many, many years) I tasted heaven. Really. It was amazing.

I am NEVER going to deny myself peaches again. (They are quite expensive here.)

I too HATED tomatoes. HATED them. Loved tomato SAUCE and that type of cooked tomato, but never the raw ones. I think it was a texture issue. The squishiness and the seeds......

Anyway, I knew they were so healthy and so low in calories, so I figured I had best give them a try. First I started out slicing them and broiling them and adding them to fish and chicken and they were really good. Then I broiled them with zucchini, also really good. Delicious in fact. Next, I cut them up teeny, tiny in a salad. And I liked them! Then I tried grape tomatoes and lo and behold I eat them almost every single day. The grape tomatoes are so good and so healthy and so lo calorie, I just pop them in my mouth. It's amazing to me. For decades I avoided them and now they are one of my favorite foods.

We are really all different. Almost every dish I make starts out with an onion. Chicken dishes, soups, chilis, veggie dishes. I couldn't imagine them without onions. And I love cooked carrots.

There are so many foods that I never gave a chance when I was heavy. Soo many vegetables that I didn't even know the names of. Like the winter squashes - butternut, acorn and spaghetti. My whole family loves them and I hadn't even tried them before. Turnips - love them roasted. Never had one till this year.

I've said this so many times, yes I gave up loads of foods, but I added in so many others. Much more interesting ones, much more delicious, much "finer" and a heckuva lot healthier.

I'm in love with blueberries and peaches. Vanilla yogurt is another thing I now adore and if I mix in my favorite fruit it's heaven.

I'm still trying to get the nerve up to start seeing if I can eat tomatoes. I'm the same as you Robin, hated them raw but love tomato sauce. Maybe there is hope for me, huh? I also want see if I can eat mushrooms. I've always hated them as well.

I wouldn't know, I add onions to every dish I make hehe!

I've really discovered I like figs though I used to hate their flavor and texture. Now I love them, I eat them raw, in salads with proscuitto, and I even make fig jam for cheese platters and sandiwches.

Apparently I like yellow split peas. My folks ate them at least once a week growing up and I wouldn't touch them. I have no idea why I didn't like them, they're delicious!

I always hated bitter things but now I realize I really like raw spinach, arugula, frisee, and cooked dandelion. I had to break up with sugar first I guess.

I can't stand raw tomatoes, but I love them cooked in dishes.

Same here! I buy a 5 lb bag of onions every week and I'm only cooking for two! I like it raw when it's mixed in with something - like guacamole. I don't like the raw slices that are placed on top of salads. Even though they're cut quite thin, it just fills my mouth with onion flavor and ruins the rest of the salad/dish.

Robin's post reminded me that I used to have a love affair with tomatoes when I was 8-10. We used to get a fresh bag every week and I remember raiding the frig and eating 2-3 everyday, washed and raw. It tasted SOOOO good! This making me crave tomatoes of all things!!

I agree for the most part. Instead of putting big slices of onion in salads (which I find quite unattractive) I mix a couple of tablespoons of chopped spring onion or shallot in my dressing and sometimes if I don't want the texture in the salad I will strain them out of the dressing. It adds lots of flavor.
