Whenever I've really tried to lose weight, it's come off, luckily. This time around, I've really upped the exercise - which I feel great about.
The one thing I haven't given up this time is my one true love - beer. And not gross light beer. Stouts, porters, pale ales, India pale ales.
As a result, my weight's been at a relative stand-still.
So this is my farewell post to beer. I'm going to challenge myself to cut it out completely for 30 days. Hopefully, I'll have positive changes to announce starting next week.
I said goodbye to my One True Love, Coors Light (don't throw up, I know it's not the same beverage you're giving up) in 2008 and I don't miss it, at all. Mostly. There were times when I would be at the beach with friends and drink a CASE a day. (I have a high tolerance and I could drink 24 a day and still function, sort of [no driving of course!!!!!]). Good for you!
I'm so relieved to hear that there are other beer-drinking chicks here! And DC, I won't throw up about your Coors Light because that's been my brew of choice for YEARS. I don't really care for the darker, stouter beers as much.
I haven't given it up completely yet, but I used to have 2-3 beers a night, without fail. When I first started cutting back, I switched to only the weekends and only 2 beers a night. Now I'm down to maybe one 6-pack a month, but I'm starting to realize that maybe part of my problem losing weight in my gut is the beer.....Hello, my name is Windchime and I have a beer-belly. LOL.
Anyway, best of luck to you all. I do love my beer and I'm not sure I can give it up completely, but I can totally sympathize with the struggle.
Beer. Okay, is it really worth your health and your quality of life? Apparently you've decided that it's NOT.
Congratulations. I know when you're feeling all svelte, sleek, smooth, fit and healthy - you won't miss it. You won't need it. You'll be feeling so MARVELOUS with your new wardrobe, new found energy and self-confidence, you'll wonder why the heck you didn't toss it earlier.
Hang tough and KNOW that you CAN do this. We're all pulling for you. I look forward to hearing of your progress!!!
Another one here not willing to give up the alcohol! I drink on the weekends and sometimes it's beer and sometimes it's wine. I don't usually drink enough to get drunk but it's guaranteed I'll have one or two at least one of the weekend nights!
A while ago, I was telling myself I can't give it up - but I just have to. Otherwise, I'll drink 700+ calories of beer a night! usually more.
Once school starts, I won't be able to sit around and drink as much, so hopefully after the 30 days, I'll be able to go back to one or two a week or so.
Of course, my bday's coming up in two weeks - so I have to plan early for that.
I have a similar liking for beer, so I really empathise. I'll be starting school in about 16 days and it is "water only" for the duration of my course. I think a lot of people who diet forget to count liquid calories-- beer, alcohol, milk, sweet drinks. I don't think it is any surprise that for most people, their overweight begins after they can legally drink. Hmmm. What a coincedence.
nb3 - I'm another huge beer fan. I'm sure if you're a Michiganian, you've been out to Webberville. I've also found that it's very difficult to hit goals without giving up the alcohol. Being a calorie counter, I can work it in ... but that means foregoing nutritious food. So I just set aside a few calories a day, and have one really, really good yummy drink a week. As a result, I've learned to savor it ... and much like eating more slowly, I'm learning to appreciate it more. Best of luck with your 30 days! You can do it!
