What's Your Routine?

I know we have lots of threads about exercise accountability but because I am nosey and lazy, I wanted to see what others do for fitness routine :D

Mine at the moment is - 5 days 1 hour cardio, 3 days I add weight training (upper/lower/core) and I rest the 2 days my bf is off work :)

SunshineCA 08-15-2009 04:29 AM

I don't really have a set routine. My life is too busy to set a schedule.

However, I'm currently on Day 6 of the 30-Day Shred, but you already know that. ;)

Other than that, I walk regularly and sometimes swim and do water aerobics.

pintobean 08-15-2009 07:57 AM

I workout 6 days/week from home.
I recently added weight training again to my routine now that my injuries have healed somewhat. I switched my routine as well. This is what I'll be following for a month and then re-evaluate.

M/W/F - Weight Training 1 hour (5 mins warm up run), brisk walk @ work (lunch time)
Tu/Th/Sa - abs 20 mins and Cardio 1 hour (Treadmill/Track)

Sunnigummi 08-15-2009 08:31 AM

I can actually have a routine now that I'm not working. Although, when I start working in another few months, things might change. Le Sigh.

3-4 days a week, one of the following: 1 hour dancing/1 workout video/3.5 mile walk

6 days a week, one of the following: 45 min - 1 hr tennis/1 hour 2.5 mile walk

So most days, I work out twice a day. I enjoy it though - NEVER thought I'd say that...:o

Onederchic 08-15-2009 08:59 AM

Thanks for the responses :D

seagirl 08-15-2009 09:23 AM

I haven't really exercised in the last 2 weeks, but usually it's some combo of yoga, biking, zumba, and hiking depending on the weather, time of day, etc.

Onederchic 08-15-2009 09:51 AM

Thank you, seagirl :)

Judy Lynn 08-15-2009 10:13 AM

I am just getting back into exercise, so currently I walk for 30 mins in the morning before work, 5 days a week.

When I was really in my groove I did cardio for 30 mins 5 days a week and weights 4 days a week (2 upper and 2 lower.) Man! I used to feel really good!

Bonnie+J 08-15-2009 10:19 AM

i go to the gym 4 days a week, sat, sun, tues and thurs. i do 30 mins cardio, 30 mins weights.

i do an exercise class on friday, either aqua aerobics, spinning or boxercise, depending on what time i'm able to get someone to watch my 2 year old.

i also take walks on the beach every morning with my son, but i dont think they count much, as a 2 year old doesnt walk very fast. its part of my routine, but its mainly to get him used to the idea of doing something every day.

Onederchic 08-15-2009 11:08 AM

Thanks ladies :D

I like to change things up every month or so and I also like to do programs that have a set amount of weeks to them--like BFL and C25K--I really like having a 'finish line' to get to.

So here's what I'm doing right now

MWF~ strength training and abs (I alternate upper and lower body), HIIT (High intensity interval training) on the treadmill alternating brisk walk and running

TThS~ C25K (currently just finished week 2)

Sun~ scheduled day off--although I might be adding in a brisk walk, still haven't decided. :D

For the first time I'm exercising regularly and not fighting myself. I walk 3 mornings a week with my neighbor. I enjoy it and it helps that I know she's waiting for me, and might not go if I don't.

My husband is training for a marathon, so every Sunday he does his long run and I bike with him. Last weekend we did 16 miles, tomorrow we only have to do 9, but next weekend we do 18. I enjoy biking (haven't ridden a bike in over 20 years until now!) and I'm helping him out by carrying extra water for him.

I volunteer twice a week at a therapeutic riding center. I usually walk anywhere from 3-4 hours a day. It's not a super fast walk, but it's burning calories! Plus there's running around the pastures trying to catch horses, which definitely gets the heart pumping.

I will say I'm quite worried about what's going to happen once the marathon is over and winter comes. I'll still do the volunteering, but the other outdoor activities will come to an end. I really hate the treadmill and the gym in general. I think I'm going to have to learn to love it, or at least endure it.

WhitePicketFences 08-15-2009 12:03 PM

Daily -- 60 minutes on my upright stationary bike (difficulty "levels" 4 & 5 of 1-8 levels, plus a user program that consists of interval levels 3 & 5).

Every other day -- (upper) weights. 3 sets of 20 reps of 5 arm movements, plus pushups, reverse pushups.

Whenever I Get Around To It/Several times a week -- other body exercises using my ankle weights. This I try to do 3x a week, but it's boring and so sometimes it is less. I need to do more of these "floor exercises" as I call them. Crunches, leg lifts, reverse crunches, butt lifts. I do randomly try to do squats throughout other days.

Exercise I Don't Log, But I Like -- several times a week, up to 30 minutes at a time, I put on music and dance. Sometimes at a high intensity, sometimes at a low intensity.

Onederchic 08-15-2009 12:32 PM

Thanks Darby and WPF :D

BarbPA 08-15-2009 01:47 PM

3 day a week I weight train...sometimes alone, 1-2x per week with my trainer. I do a 5 min warmup , about 60 minutes of weights, 20 min cardio and finish off with about 10-15 min of stretching. If I don't have that much time to devote I shorten the routine to one hour and do a little higher intensity.

The other days I do 45 minutes of cardio followed by 15 min of some abs/stretching.

Sometimes I swap up the cardio in the gym for a bike ride or walk in the neighborhood. If I'm crunched on time I will do 30 minutes higher intensity.

I've been taking 1 day a week off from the gym but I still stay active doing something with the kids.

It's hectic with 2 toddlers and a fulltime job, but I just make it work...cause I love it and have to do it!

:strong:

EveLHaelf 08-15-2009 01:51 PM

I'm doing the biggest loser 'cardio max' on mondays wednesdays and fridays and the biggest loser 'power sculpt' on tuesdays thursdays and saturdays. Along with walking my dog every morning.

Onederchic 08-15-2009 02:14 PM

Barb and Eve -

Thanks for sharing!

Pita09 08-15-2009 03:19 PM

Sunday thru Friday, I'm at the gym from 7:30am to 9:00am where I do cardio on the elliptical, treadmill, and sometimes the bike.

Every other day, I do weights by using some of the machines at the gym for my upper body and then free-weights when I get home later in the afternoon.

This schedule will be changing once I head back to work next week, but I still plan to keep it up 6 days a week no matter what. I have a gym that is open 24.7. :D

Stella 08-15-2009 03:22 PM

I don`t do half as much excercise as most of you. Three times a week, I run for some 45 min, and that`s it. I`ve often made half hearted attempts to up it but I have never been able to keep to this for more than two weeks. I`ve now decided not to give myself a hard time and setting expectations which I cannot/do not want to meet. I keep to the running, and I enjoy it. That`s the main thing.

Stella

Thanks so much Pita and Stella

jamiewyn 08-15-2009 04:19 PM

exercise is something I'm trying in incorporate into my days. So far, I've only managed to consistanty do strength training in the mornings (alternating upper and lower body).

I loathe exercise videos and have only managed to do one about once a week. I am hoping to start walking a few mornings a week if I can find someone to watch DD (taking her with me is not an option).

Ways I'm trying to be more active and have exercise be a more natural part of my life:

I fired my lawn guy. Our lot is sloped and pushing that mower up the hill kills my legs and butt. It takes almost 2 hours to do the lawn and I do it once a week. I am usually quite winded and VERY, VERY sweaty while I'm doing it. It is absolutely exercise.

The kids and I do a "nature study" once a week (we are homeschoolers). We have added hiking to our nature afternoons. Usually no more than about 45-60 minutes, but it's a start, right? :)

I park at the back of the lots so I can squeeze a few more steps into my weeks while I run errands.

Still looking for more "natural" exercise. :)

Onederchic 08-15-2009 04:47 PM

Thank you for sharing those tips, Jamie :D

Diva 08-15-2009 05:22 PM

I count my calories, watch the carbs and try and keep them below 150, if I go higher, it's because of fruits and whole grains usually, but that time of the month, it's because of choc and potato chips, I'm not gonna lie. ;)

I exercise 4 to 6 days a week. Cardio all of them 6 days, anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Usually at the GYM on the TM or the Elliptical, but I do have tons of DVD's and sometimes I do Sparkpeople cardio videos as well (on the computer). 2 to 3 days a week I do Strength Training. I always stretch after the everything for at least 5 minutes.

Right now I am reading Bob's book, "Are You Ready", because um...I am. :D

Onederchic 08-15-2009 05:32 PM

Wonderful Diva, thanks :D

WildThings 08-15-2009 06:26 PM

Mon-Fri: walked 45 minutes on my lunch
Every other day: C25K program ( on week 6 now)
Strength training here and there
Walk my dog 2-3 miles a day (except when it's really hot)

For a while I was doing the Biggest Loser Cardio Max several times a week, and I really would like to have more of a set strength training schedule because I have very, very little muscle tone.

patchworkpenguin 08-15-2009 06:28 PM

I've been rather lazy this summer, what with my cateract surgeries and the recover time. I followed a 3 month weight program called STS {Shock Training Stystem} by Cathe Friedrich and hope to start it again in October.

So my weeks looked something like

Sunday- hour of lower body weights followed by 15 min stretch
Monday-45 min of cardio intervals + abs
Tuesday- Upper body weights {back and biceps} + stretch
Wed- short intense cardio + abs
Thurs- Rest day - but might do yoga or short light cardio
Fri- Upper body weights {chest, shoulders, triceps} + stretch
Sat- Cardio- long steady state + abs

The program rearranged the UB parts so those varied per month, along with the method of reps and style of lifting. I tended to skip my ab workout but recently read on my exercise forum that if you do the abs before the cardio you won't skip them. I need to give that a try.

Onederchic 08-15-2009 06:30 PM

Thanks Amanda and Penguin :)

SweetCurves32 08-16-2009 11:54 PM

My plan is 6 days a week. I alternate days doing one day of strength training (right now is 30DS) and then one day of aerobics (Dance Your Pants Off - Richard Simmons) and sometimes, just for fun, I'll add 20 minutes on my mini trampoline.:carrot:

Onederchic 08-16-2009 11:58 PM

Thank you, SweetCurves :)

paradoxx 08-17-2009 03:54 AM

I walk 6 days a week. I try to get in 3-4 miles, but on some days I fall short because of limited time. The most that I have walked in a day is 6 miles. I also try to stay active in my daily activities to get my steps up.

This week, I started adding segments of running to my walks. They aren't far. I probably did a tenth of a mile run during my 4 mile walk today.

I was doing Turbo Jam or some other workout video in the morning in addition to my walks, but then I injured my hip and had to back off a bit. I hope to get back to twice a day soon as my progress has seriously stalled since I stopped.

Onederchic 08-17-2009 08:15 AM

Thanks for sharing, paradoxx :)

WS09 08-18-2009 06:22 AM

I take my dog for a walk every morning before work and exercise at home three days a week as its convenient and cheaper than going to the gym. I do about 30 minutes cardio and 30 minutes weights. I find this works best for me.

Onederchic 08-18-2009 07:56 AM

Thanks :)

UniquelyNormal 08-18-2009 08:07 AM

I'm doing the Wii Active 30 Day Challenge and adding in extras, like tennis & boxing to get myself to about an hour each time. I don't do them on set days, just every opportunity I can because life gets in the way so often that I'll end up with more rest days then I want if I plan on taking one.

Onederchic 08-18-2009 08:19 AM

I have Wii Fit, Gold's Gym Cardio and My Fitness Coach..should I try to get Wii Active as well?

UniquelyNormal 08-18-2009 08:29 AM

I've done My Fitness on the playstation and like the Active better. My Fitness seemed too repetitive & not enough variety. I haven't seen/done the Fit or Gold's. I read that the Active has some of the same components as Gold's, like boxing. Active incorporates stuff with a band, like lateral arm raises, bicep curls & squats/lunges, etc. My friend is doing the Active with me & she switched from the Fit. She isn't a fan of yoga type so preferred the exercises of the Active. I guess it comes down to personal preferences.

Onederchic 08-18-2009 08:30 AM

Thanks so much :D

firefliesandpixies 08-18-2009 10:00 AM

I do an hour of yoga 5-6 times a week - sometimes at the gym and sometimes at home (depends on the schedule). I'm addicted :D.
