i know what you mean, working out can make you very hungry. after my workout, i'm a hungry monster. so what i personally do is have some fruit. i like peaches and plums

erm i'm not sure what food groups are best. but i can tell you what i am personally doing at the moment.
i am avoiding all bread, wheat products, junk food, anything processed, sodas etc.
every meal consists of steamed vegetables, lentils, and protein (in the form of either chicken, fish or lamb, or eggs), and salad.
for snacks in between meals, i eat fruit.
but once i week, i'm allowed a "cheat day" where I can eat carbs that i am craving. like bread hehe.
everyday i exercise. either walking/jogging, or trampolining, or squats with hand held weights.
