It's about a guy who feeds women to death and broadcasts in on a website. It's very graphic and disgusting, but it def. as a "fat" message. *shrugs*

"All I Wanna Do", wonderful campy indie (canadian?) movie, also featuring lynn redgrave among others, about girls' boarding school...not centered on weight issues, but I remember one girl giving ipecac to the new fat friend, and being about girls' boarding school is probably close enough

I can't remember the name of it. But,it was sort of a comedy where Suzanne Sommers made a deal w/the devil. She could eat as much as she wants, and never gain.

Ruthless people cracked me up something serious. Shallow Hal is horrible.

I thought Shallow Hal had a good basic message but some parts that were supposed to be funny but weren't because they were mean-funny. Like the swimming scene.

Along the lines of this, what do you think makes a "good" fat message for a movie? I don't like movies with the messages that "fat person loses weight but that's all that changes and then everything is perfect" or ones that are "just accept yourself and continue to be fat."

I recall a trailer for a movie where a woman was a fashion designer who came out with a plus-sized line, but I can't remember the name of it and thus never saw it.

I just remembered that "Sorority Boys" has some fat themes, including one of the guys dressed up as a woman claiming he has a fat behind, but the irony is that he's super thin. I read that he had to wear a prosthetic behind for the role.

Well, I don't think my favourite is necessarily a good body-size message as much as it is about general self-esteem...But I loved My Big Fat Greek Wedding for its message on self-esteem:

Toula meets Ian when she waits on him at her father's restaurant. Toula is dumbstruck by him, and can't even barely speak in front of him. She decides to give herself a makeover--her appearance as well as her life--and when she next sees Ian, at the new job that she loves, things go much better! She actually speaks to him, he speaks back, and of course it is True Everlasting Love. Toula tells Ian at one point that she saw him before, at her father's restaurant, and she is afraid that he will remember her for the dowdy, shy girl that had been. He says, "Of course, that was you--the pretty girl."

To me, that's a great message to hear in a movie--the difference was not Toula's makeover, but that she had the self-esteem to talk to Ian the second time around. Ian thought she was pretty from the very beginning. :

I remember seeing this on TV a few years ago. It was good. I don't remember the name of it either though.

Kind of in the category--Supersize Me! was awesome.
More about the damages of fast food on our bodies, definitely a beneficial watch.

I loved Shallow Hal. I think the message was about inner beauty and how that makes a person attractive. I cried the first time I saw it when he realizes the little girl.....oh wait, that would be a spoiler!! Ok, well that scene was really touching, I thought.
