Thanks so much for the info. I think I am going to pick one up. I don't do gyms--I just run and do Dvd's. The ball idea I like because it's cost effective and doesn't take up too much space. Mary

The rebounder Mandalinn was talking about is a mini trampoline. They're not very expensive, and you can get exercise videos for using with them too. Mine's in the garage... maybe I should dust it off

Don't forget the public library for a great collection of exercise videos/DVDs. If you don't find what you want, find the reference desk and ask. (Yes, I'm a librarian! How could you tell? )

I don't belong to a gym and I've lost 80 pounds so far. Granted, I have access to exercise equipment at my sister's house, but nothing burns calories like a good run outside. It sucks and I hate it, but it works! Of course you have to work up to running (I'm still working on it three years in), so you put on your shoes and go for a walk. When that gets easy, walk faster.

My point is that everyone here is right; you can get a great workout without ever seeing the inside of a gym. It doesn't have to cost a dime, and it really will help keep your weight loss going.

My motivation to keep working out, even on the days I don't feel like it, is my muscle tone. It's still covered in fat, but I can feel the changes and they are kind of amazing. It's fun, poking around at new muscles!

Regarding the exersize ball-I just wanted to add that my physiotherapist recommended getting an exercise ball that was a little more expensive because the cheap ones flatten out with use, and to get the right size for your height so you don't injure yourself.

Everyone has given such great advice. I agree with those who recommend building up your activity gradually and starting small.

I'll second the leslie sansone walking tapes. My fav is 4 fast miles or the 5 mile one. They helped me get through the winter! Now I walk out side whenever possible with an audio tape. I try to get mysteries and only listen to it when I walk.. makes me want to walk further to find out what happens!

I see that you are in Philly. I think a GREAT work out would be to get dropped off in the middle of Newark. It will be like running through an obstacle course trying to get out of there! LOL!

No seriously, walking is good but I have knee and ankle problems and I bought an exercise bike off of craigslist for like almost nothing and I ride on it instead of walking when it rains or weather is bad or my knee hurts.

I would also recommend walking. You can plug into some music and it definately takes the boredom out of it.
