Nothing will work unless you do. -Maya Angelou

Each of us has that right, that possibility, to invent ourselves daily. If a person does not invent herself, she will be invented. So, to be bodacious enough to invent ourselves is wise. - Maya Angelou

It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power. - Alan Cohen

There's only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self. - Aldous Huxley

Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death. - Anais Nin

The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become. - Charles Bubois

The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn. - Gloria Steinem

I love a similar one to yours Julie.

To do list: Lose one pound. Keep it off. Repeat.

Some of my favs, and I've got a lot of them -

If we'd only recognize that life was hard, things would be much easier.

Don't sacrfice your future for a momentary pleasure.

Look for opportunity. You can't wait for it to knock on the door. . . . you might not be home.

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

"It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready and WILLING to change and others are not."

Sacrifice is giving up something good for something better.

I've seen lots of wonderful ones on this site. My personal favorite outside of 3FC is Julia Child - "Life itself is the proper binge."

I saw one on the site earlier that has always stuck in my head (and I'm probably misquoting it...):

"You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by not pulling yourself back out."

I like the ones mentioned already especially: if you do as you always did, you'll get what you always got.

Someone has in their signature something about luck - I'm a great believer in luck. The harder I work, the luckier I get - or words to that effect.

and I also like: If you aim at nothing, that's what you'll get.

I had started a thread similar to this a month or two back. It's nice to see it pop up again because sometimes you need the extra motivation. I'm pretty partial to the one I have in my siggy that Jillian says. There are tons that I just love but I recently came across these two again and I really feel like they apply to what we're doing here by losing weight:

Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe- Since we always know what we should be doing to make ourselves healthy but we actually have to take what we know and apply it along with actually doing what seem so willing to do (being willing to sacrifice momentary satisfaction for long term gain).

Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.
Confucius- Since we all know we fall off the wagon. ;)

DERAIL

Madonna is so full of crap in this instance. Sure, don't worry about being fat, while doing yoga, working with your personal trainer and eating your special macrobiotic diet. She has always struck me as a woman who cared deeply about her personal appearance, so I don't want her to hand me that "oh, I don't worry about my weight!" silliness, she worries plenty and she has a wonderful, toned body to show for it.

I found another quote by Jillian that I like... I think she said this last season to her black team (which I find as a great motivator when I feel especially lazy and procrastinate before exercising ;)): "Unless you faint, puke, or die-- keep walking!!"

I don't know why I find it motivational, lol-- but I love that quote!

If you want it you will find a way, if not then you will find an excuse. :) Or something like that!

I love this quote too! It really makes me think twice before giving up. Exercising won't kill me, not exercising will.

one of mine is:

learn to love it or lose it. i read it in SELF magazine.

"You tolerate that which you are not willing to change"

I'm done tolerating being overweight!

"Make a change that will improve the quality of your life"

Here we go...making the change.

gymlee 03-15-2009 04:50 PM

I love that Jillian quote too Tea!!! And sometimes I've worked out til I've nearly fainted and I've def worked out til I puked lol No dying though. I think it would be really hard to actually die from working out unless you have an aneurism, stroke, or heart attack from straining too hard. I just love Jill quotes!
