Default Hungry after breakfast

I usually do not eat breakfast but since all that I have been reading says it is very important I am now doing it, but I am so hungry afterwards that I can't wait to eat my snack. Then I want lunch so bad, after eating lunch Im fine, no hunger. I have been doing fiber 1 cereal, oatmeal, mini quiches, no matter what it is Im chomping at the bit (or anything else I can fine). Im thinking my body is adjusting to an early meal and this hunger will go away. Did anybody else have this happen to them?

I feel like I have the same problem I can eat a bunch of food right after breakfast and then I won't eat for 6 hours! Are you drinking water in the am, I'm thinking that might be part of my problem. You know how they say some of the time you think your hungry your body is really just thirsty but the signal to your brain doesn't know the difference. Maybe we should try drinking a big tall glass of water before 'breakfast'. At least I'm going to try this tomorrow. I wanted to try to start eating every 3 hours to try and rev my metabolism, but I seem to have a problem doing this. My body is used to eating two big meals a day with snacking in between. Ugh! I'm so pissed, I've gained 2lbs in the last 1 1/2 weeks and I'm struggling with controlling my eating! But I'm not giving up I'm going to tackle this battle every day until I get it right and start back on my losing weight path!

I was always hungry in the AM. Instead of eating breakfast, I would snack. I was notorious for bringing in chips and salsa to share with the office. Geez! No wonder several of us were putting on weight!

After coming here, I started eating breakfast. Maybe some of the people who have been successful can answer your questions. I've hear that some people have a problem with carbs in the morning and that they are hungry if they eat them instead of an omelet or something like that. I find that 1 C of my high fiber cereal, 1/2 C blue berries and 1 C of unsweetened almond milk will carry me for several hours. Then I will have some sort of snack. Today I had 2 oz of baby carrots and 1/2 C of salsa. I've consumed huge amounts of water all my life, so that is not a problem. In fact, I have a bottle in my car and a one by my bed at night.

Good luck. It is so frustrating.

Yup! And it's gotten better. I make sure that breakfast has fiber and protein. I know that I can't do cereal (unless I eat an entire box!) But the standbys that work for me- whole wheat toast with peanutbutter, a cup of milk and a banana or apple, scrambled eggs with broccoli, or a breakfast sandwich and some fruit.

Maybe try moving things around- mine are close to 400 calories each now, but it's working.

yeah I had that same problem!!! but I realized not eating 5-6 times a day is what got me fat! I'd never eat breakfast some times not eat lunch and have a big meal around 6-7 and then maybe eat agian around 10-12 at night it's a bad habit!

I had to add more protein and fiber into my breakfast to keep me full untill snack Like peanut butter on a 100 calorie whole wheat english muffin. or laughing cow cheese on an english muffin. eggs and turkey bacon on whole wheat toast.. Oatmeal with a little peanut butter or some almonds in it... cottage cheese with fruit...cheese, eggs, meat, nuts and whole grains. you should try to have at least one of those items per meal then paired up with fresh fruit or veggies

Lovelypurple,

Today was a mini quiche made with turkey bacon, mushrooms and cheese wrapped in whole wheat tortilla.

Yesterday was Greek yogurt with a whole wheat english muffin.

The day before was fiber one with skim milk and banana.

Monday was Greek yogurt whole wheat english muffin and strawberries, blueberries.

Hot oatmeal with strawberries and skim milk.

It looks like everything should be okay as far as your nutrients go. Have you considered eating more? Maybe you're just not eating enough for your body.

Or it may be that your body needs to adjust to eating breakfast. Try drinking more water in the morning and see if that helps. If you're still feeling this way in a week or two, maybe re arrange your calories to allow for a little bit more food in the morning.

Good luck!

yes, and like a few of the other chickies mentioned, I need a good amount of fiber and protein to feel satiated after breakfast.
Typically I have oatmeal with half a scoop of whey gourmet protein powder, a splash of milk and splenda. Then I am good until my snack 2 hours later.
Have you tried giving yourself a cue ?
After your breakfast, make yourself a coffee or sugar free cafe mocha and pop a piece of SF gum. That'll send yourself the signal that there's no snackage for awhile
If you still feel snacky, I would up the protein. Do you like cottage cheese? Its yummy for breakfast.

i always thought eating breakfast made me hungry in midmorning because it gets the metabolism all fired up for the day, that's why i thought it was meant to be good to eat breakfast. and why you shouldn't eat too much later in the day because your metabolism slows right down at night.

i read something before along the lines of breakfast is like stoking up a fire in the morning and big meals late at night are like smothering a dying fire with fuel it can't burn.

this may be mostly complete gibberish that i pulled out of my arse though!

I googled that saying Froggie because I've heard it before too ...
BREAKFAST LIKE A KING, LUNCH LIKE A PRINCE, DINE LIKE A PAUPER

Several food plans recommend this sort of thing. If nothing else, it reminds us about how dangerous evening snacking can be

The only thing I've found that saves me from being hungry after breakfast is a protein shake.

That saying..."Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince, and Dine like a Pauper" sure doesn't work very well on a 1200 calorie diet, does it?? lol. I think i eat like a Pauper all day long!!! Lol.

But one thing i KNOW i can't eat in the morning is cereal. I eat cereal in the morning...i am hungry before i can put the bowl in the sink. lol. I do like it for dinner sometimes though.

One thing i do, i wait until i get to work to eat. That way there is not more than 2 1/2 hours between breakfast and snack time.

I don't really have any suggestions other than adding more food to your breakfast. I eat an egg omelet every morning made from egg whites (1/2 cup) and fat free cheese and 1 ounce of lean lunch meat and that seems to work pretty good for me.

I get hungry midmorning no matter what I have for breakfast. So I just have two small/medium breakfasts. Typically I have oatmeal w pumpkin, soymilk, and flaxseed, plus a coffee with soymilk for breakfast. Then midmorning I'll have Greek yogurt with blueberries and a little granola. Or vice versa.

On the other hand, I don't really need an afternoon snack. I often have some raw veggies or a salad midafternoon, but if I have nothing, I'm fine.

So I just go with what my body is telling me - I need more food in the morning, but I don't need to force a snack in the afternoon.

Some people have a problem with carbs for breakfast. That's why they eat omelets and such. That may be your problem. Maybe you should try a lower carb breakfast.

Or, eat breakfast later. I work in an office so I can fix something for myself and eat it at my desk.
