Most foods I'm okay with, especially since I am very motivated to get this weight off, but I did find a few things over the holidays that must not enter this house again until next year! Nuts and chocolate...whether it's a dish of mixed nuts with M&M's mixed in or the classic peanut cluster or turtle...I can't resist, (I didn't resist!) Same with the Chocolate chip bourbon pecan pie...(again chocolate & nuts!) I had to pour dish soap on it and bury it in the trash after MY 2nd piece and still 1/2 pie left. Last but not least, Raspberry white chocolate cheese cake...NO!!! I can never make it again unless It's the only dessert and there are at least 10 people here to eat it ALL. It is sinfully DELICIOUS and hard to resist.

Chips and chocolate- man I used to eat a bag of chips a DAY- then I cut it down to the mini bags, one a day, then now it's like maybe a mini bag a week?

Chocolate I'm pretty okay resisting unless it's TOM- then man oh man I have to have something!

Tortilla chips. I'll eat them at restaurants, I'll eat them at friend's houses, but I cannot be trusted with them in my own house.

Same thing with baked goods like cupcakes, cake, pie, etc. Though, with those, its only the homemade goodies that are truly dangerous. Except with any type of buttery or shortbread cookie. Lord have mercy...

I really cannot have icecream anywhere around me and no longer keep the ingrediants to make mac and cheese in the house. I think I have only had mac and cheese 2 times in almost 2 years. I used to make a huge amount on Monday and eat on it all week..for me it went with any meat we were having for dinner!

cheese sticks!! and bread sticks, omgosh, i could live off of those (not really). butthose are deff. my biggest weaknesses. it's weird though, sometimes i'll be craving something a LOT but when i have it in my hands ready to eat, i just don't want it.

I respectfully disagree, but whatever works for the individual!

For me personally, trying to restrict the "NO" foods just made it worse. When I truly have whatever I want, the I'm laughing. My conclusions from experience and various research perusals. Not sure alcohol or crack is comparable, you don't need either to live.

Agree to disagree, yeh? If it works, great. I do know what its like to struggle..and I also know what got me out of it.

I've been very happy with my food choices the last 6+ weeks; however, I did eat a 10 oz. bag of pistachios last week just before TOM came. My only off plan day since I started.

For me I have decided that there is nothing off limits as long as I am within my 1500 calorie allowance. I love Ben & Jerry's and do have the small cups here at the house but the funny thing is I've only had 3 in 6 weeks (I use to eat a pint several times a week). Skinny Cow cones are my new love and I do have to be careful with those; I love the mint chocolate.

My absolute favorite comfort food (Outback cheese fries) I would have to go out for so for now I am OK.

I like to indulge sometimes but I can't have indulgences in my house.

I can't have ice cream of any form (although now its soy cream/coconut milk ice cream). If I go to someone elses house though, dairy ice cream doesn't draw me any more which is actually a miracle.

Milk Chocolate - now although I don't eat dairy anymore, I still have the hardest time controlling myself around it.

Bagels/Muffins/Cookies/Crackers

Sourdough/French bread

Once in a while, I'll buy a vegan cookie from Whole Foods and eat it over the course of a couple days but I couldn't allow myself to have a box of cookies in the house. I made some pumpkin bread last week and I ate quite a few thin pieces of it on the day I baked it but surprisingly didn't touch it afterwards. Luckily my husband took care of it. Sometimes the things I can keep in the house surprise me like tortilla chips which my husband loves. I rarely touch them. If you brought corn chips into the house though, not sure I'd be able to say the same thing.

Further on the ice cream thing ... there is a lovely little shack about 15 minutes walk from here. We go there sometimes in the summer. One cone never hurt anybody. I just can't have it in the house.

HUMMUS! I love the stuff. Roasted red bell pepper hummus, lemony hummus (but I'm trying a raw food recipe that doesn't have the chickpeas so woohooo)...

I love that stuff...

Olives...I LOVE olives...olives and hummus on crackers..PARADISE!

I will add...dark chocolate and natural peanut butter when I'm hormonal...

CorinneIrene 01-26-2009 06:47 PM

^Jacquie, I too am a hummus addict! :D

Generally, though...chocolate is my major vice. If it's around, it's gone, haha. But I've been doing much better- I've restricted my chocolate to about once a month (take a guess when! hehe) and been getting those Dove bars that when you open them come in three separate bars- huge test of my willpower, but if I make myself refuse to buy more, I can usually make it last. :D

Peanut butter.

Or, anything "dippy"; nachos especially. My favorite "cheat" is going to montana's with my kiddo and sharing a plate of nachos and a mile high mud pie (easily a 3000 calorie meal, but sooooo cheat-worthy!)

Yes!!! We are all most certainly different. What works for one could spell disaster for another. It's so important to recognize and determine just what will set oneself up for success.

Having definite NO's, especially in the beginning, were just what *I* needed. It was wonderful after years and years of overinduldging to have boundaries and things that were just plain old off limits to me. It took the decision making process away. It's just what I needed to seize control and get a handle on my horrendous eating habits.

We definitely need food to survive, I definitely agree with you 100% on that one. But our survival is most definitely not dependent upon whether or not we eat ice cream. We don't need ice cream to live. Absolutely no harm will come to those who do without it. Zero. In fact once I made the decision to ban ice cream from my home, I'm pretty certain that I greatly increased my chances to live a longer life. Greatly. A longer life and a richer, more enjoyable life.

I take my compulsive overeating very, very seriously. It's a lifetime condition that I have. I may never be totally cured of it, but I most certainly can manage it. Just like a diabetic. And manage it I will! Whatever it takes. It's just that important to me and that worth it. I never, ever want to be morbidly obese, obese or overweight again. If not having ice cream in my home is what helps me to keep my condition at bay, thus freeing me up to lose and keep off more then 160 pounds, I am more then perfectly fine with that. :D

macaroni and cheese, oh how i can't say no to it!
