Baked goods of an kind, most sweets. I'm a bit of a candy-holic and usually have something around (keeps my mouth busy from not smoking;)) and I do fine with that, but cookies/cake/muffins/bread...just can't do it. My SIL would bring a big box of fresh dounts every time she would visit and it drove me so insane that I had to insist that it just wasn't necessary.
Pasta (even uncooked) is kind of a landmine, too. Some times I can forget that it's in the pantry, but most of the time I just have to make DH's lunch casseroles and toss the rest. |
I tried those ice cream bars ... ate the whole box.
Jen and her pasta reminded me that I used to eat those ramen noodles dry and crunchy for a snack ... but that's probably for another thread ;) |
I'm exactly like Susan.
Ice cream. Tried the Skinny Cow. Ate the whole box. DH brought home a half gallon tub of FF/SF. It wasn't even that good. After carefully measuring and then eating, 3 or 4 servings of it, I washed it down the drain. Ice cream, of any kind, shape or form, can never, ever be in my house. And it won't be. Ever. |

Oh, I used to eat the dried ramen. But it wouldn't tempt me now...I remember it leaving a greasy film on my mouth when I chewed.
Cashews, or any kind of flavored, candied nut. Things in tubs that I can take "just one" of...just one pretzel, just one bite of ice cream, just one chocolate truffle ball, etc. I have a very hard time counting "just one". Similarly, things I can cut a small sliver off of without anyone noticing...cakes, pies, whole loaves of bread...somehow in my head it doesn't "count" if no one can see. Come to think of it, mine are all more circumstance than food-based. I mean, if I had individually portioned bags of cashews, I wouldn't be triggered by them. It's just food I can grab a little bit of without anyone knowing. |
Salty foods
I have to avoid chips, dip, really cheesy foods, and pistachios b/c I just can't stop once you get any of those in front of me.
But if I'm really really craving chips and dip I'll get fat free or baked and dip in hummus. I also allow myself low-fat string cheese when I'm craving cheese like crazy. (2.5 grams of fat and 50 calories). |
Baked goods, especially cookies. Not bagged cookies, Oreos are getting stale in the pantry as I type, but home baked cookies will be gone as fast as they come out of the oven. I love to bake, but I know now that baked goods are a one piece treat and that the leftovers must be donated somewhere quickly!

Pasta. It doesnt bother me when its uncooked in the packet but i cant just have a bowl of it, i will eat untill i cant fit another bite... then wait about an hour and eat more. Its my no 1 binge food. I never cook it for myself, i just cant be trusted.
The other is chocolate, i dont keep any around me so my cravings have to stand the test of a freezing cold walk to the shops. |
I can't eat anything with dairy or soy (I'm nursing my 6 month old daughter who is allergic to those), so that removes most of my normal temptations at home. Ice cream, cheese, mac & cheese.
So for my, I just have to stay away from drive-thrus. Grabbing a super-sized combo (with a Frosty) and parking and eating it while reading a book was one of my favorite things to do. |
Chocolate, Ben & Jerrys Fish Food, Salt N Vinegar chips, I love cards like pasta and rice but I have done really well around those. :p

I don't have any "Nos" because I don't deny myself anything, so don't have the forbidden fruit thing :)
for the record if you want to send me a present, my favourite foods are raisins, apples, cheese sandwiches, mushroom pizza and Lindt chocolate |
Chips are most definately the no-no food in my house. I literally cannot have it there because the moment I feel like eating, I immediately look to the chips. It's sucks because almost every other type of no-no food I enjoy, I was able to find a suitable replacement/solution to the craving (like with skinny cow products etc.) but with chips...all the lower calorie options just don't even come close. I mean popcorn is the closest replacement I have found but it really just doesn't do it.

With most things, I'm like you, CousinRockingChair...but these are the things that I, for whatever reason, am mentally and physically unable to tell myself "No more!" on...
I guess I lack willpower.... |
Emily, I'm surprised by your answer. You know what it's like to struggle. Of course our struggles all take on different shapes and the such.
For some people it's just EASIER to say no ALL TOGETHER and COMPLETELY then to just start. And I'm up for easier, I gotta tell you. Just ask any alcoholic or crack additct. As far as the denial thing. I WAS most DEFINITELY DENYING myself when I was eating certain foods. Of a trim, slender, healthy, happy and IN control me. I've had enough of that, thank you very much. :) I will gladly say no to certain things. As far as my ice cream thing goes, that's just in the house. It will never be IN MY HOUSE. Out of the house is another matter. Although that is a rarity as well. No denying. No deprivation whatsoever. It's just - food. |
