Hey guys! I'm having some MAJOR problems actually getting myself started on track with my weight loss... I think to myself, "Okay. Today I'm going to eat better!" And then... Not so much. I keep eating things I KNOW I shouldn't, and too much. Anybody out there have some tips for how I can get myself back into the swing of things? It seems like this time around has been far more challenging than any other time I've tried this... It's driving me CRAZY!
I might see if we can do that sometime soon... I always feel bad when I do that. My mom doesn't mind since she's lost a bunch of weight and doesn't want the temptation, but my stepdad and my sister aren't dieting or anything really. I feel bad asking them to get rid of the things they're still perfectly happy to eat! It's all so... irritating!

If you can't clean out your kitchen, think of their food as THEIR food. You wouldn't want someone eating your fat free cottage cheese or fresh blueberries, right? Plan your meals. Buy the stuff you need. Follow the plan. For at least on week, no deviating. Just follow your plan - for every meal, snack for an entire week.
Hi,
cleaning out the kitchen is a good first step. And then you need to buy in the stuff that will keep you going.
What really helps me is planning my foodintake for several days and making a shopping list accordingly.
And I make a log of everything I eat (am calorie counting), I need that to keep myself honest.
hope that helps
Good Luck!
ninepaw~ Way to go for asking for help. You've been given some great advice. In my house, I put "my" (aka on plan) food (a DH and 2 boys, 12 and 7, live here too) in a certain cabinet. When I want something I go there...Aside from that, focus on one day at a time...one meal at a time, if need be. Try reward lists...call a friend...POST HERE ....anything to distract you from food. What worked for me this time was a message I heard at my church...It was about getting a vision...and focusing on what you're working towards rather than what you're giving up. Perspective is everything!
You are worth the effort.
Hey! I think it might also help for you to plan what you are eating for each day. That way you won't find yourself staring into the fridge or the cupboards with a big question mark... not so often, anyway.
Thanks for all of the tips, guys! It's just so irritating when you really want to get started and it just isn't happening. I need to start writing down what I'm eating every day. I don't count calories, but I do keep track of the food itself. I also should start drinking the recommended amount of water again... I did those two things once, along with adding a little bit of exercise and I lost 17lbs in a couple of months. I just need to keep up with you guys on here so you can help me stay in check!

Maybe it would help to not make it into such a big production, you know? Like, just track what you eat, drinks some more water, and before you know it, you will WANT to start doing more healthy things instead of thinking you "have" to do them.
The whole thing about "starting" something makes it into such a huge THING. Maybe that's what's putting you off?
Have you gone through the concept of "smell-fix" where you skip the eatables by just smelling them. I mean to say that the moment you feel like going to eat something unwanted, in reference to weight loss, just open up the things and start smelling.
If I'm hungry for a sweet (which is often), I'll get a bag of chocolate chips, or something else that has a very rich & sweet smell & just bury my nose in it. I don't actually eat any of it, but inhale deeply on & off for several minutes. The key here is that you have to make it without snacking on the stuff you are sniffing.
Does that suit you.Just give a try.
I agree with JayEll. Plan, plan, plan, and plan some more!!! This is what keeps me on target.
In the evening I plan out the next day, making sure I stay within my allotted calories. Then I make everything that I'll be eating the next day, except dinner. I pack this in a bag to take with me to work. I plan for meals and snacks, so I don't get hungry and tempted. Then I get home and make what I planned for dinner. Then I start all over again for the next day. It may seem like a lot of work, but it only takes a few minutes and it's so worth it!

Reason: spelling
I also had a problem finishing a day without slipping. I used to start with very good intentions and by the middle of the day I would end up eating a chocolate, destoying everything.
I noticed at a point that I tended to eat the chocolate immediately after work, on my way home, when I was more wired. I decided then that I am never taking money with me at work now. I am only taking money for a cereal bar and I ask from one of my co-worker friends to buy it for me when she goes to buy her sandwitch.
What I mean to say here is that you need to pay attention and notice what leads you to go off track and try and fix it. Also it helps to have a diet buddy to whom you can account to of what you eat (if that is so your kind of cookie. Some find it irritating to have to tell someone what they ate)
Oh and a nice tip my clinical dietician told me.
Whenever you feel like binging drink a big glass of water and then brush your teeth. Apparently some people want to binge while in reality they are thirsty and also brushing your teeth gives a feeling of freshness making you not want to eat.
I've tried to just leave the bad stuff and ignore it, but I've learned I don't have the self control (yet) to deal with that. So, now I'm cleaning everything out. It's actually what I've been working on today. I'm hoping to go back to WW meetings next week when we get paid and I want to be prepared to take my health, to take myself a bit more seriously.
