Not Samoas! They are my favorite cookie of all time. I simply cannot buy them or I can and will eat the entire box.

We got "the call" yesterday. There is actually an option where instead of buying cookies for yourself, you purchase a bundle to be delivered to various shelters.

...I might have to get one box of thin mints. One.

Edit: I think super cute girl scouts should be illegal. Our brownie (daughter of a dear friend) is possibly the cutest thing you've ever seen and she has these big brown eyes that pierce your soul so resistance is futile.

I know it is. Despite having a no soliciting sign on my door, one of the dear darlings rang my bell yesterday. I told her I wasn't able to eat them and she quickly asked me to "donate" a box. :)

*drooling over Samoas!* Those are my favorites. Thin mints do not come far behind. Dairy Queen also has a thin mint blizzard which is pretty good. Tagalogs are pretty great, too. AHHH!

Oh I will try! I usually see the little she-devils selling their wares outside of stores. There I am, coming out of the grocery store about to bowl them down with my cart of healthy food just to get away!

This isn't a bad idea. And it's nice to share. But then I think "I should just make soup for the shelter so they won't have any of that trans fat."

Funny, my friend just told me she ordered 2 boxes from all who asked. (full sleeve of frozen choc mint, anyone??)

So far nobody has come around my neck of the woods. Thx for the heads up!! :)

I'm considering myself lucky that scouts over here don't sell cookies.... :lol: Do they go door to door in the states?

Oh my. Samoas are the best thing ever!!!!! I will have to stay far away!!

Depends on the neighborhood. Many still do.

But a lot of them set up stands outside of stores. Catch people when they're in shopping mode.

I just got a call from our 6 year old girl scout representative wondering if I wanted to buy some girl scout cookies :lol:

6 year olds should NOT be allowed to use the phone. I'm even more weak against their powers.

Edit: I should explain that the original "call" was from said brownie's mother, explaining that brownie would be calling to officially solicit us.

I am never more grateful to work with a bunch of childless, older women than I am during Girl Scout Cookie season :)

I'm glad I live in the country, and I don't know anyone who's in girl scouts! lol

There are 3 women that I work with who all have girl scout daughters, I order one from each and then donate them to the troops.

Well crap! :lol: My son just started school this year, tiny little school with a ton of pressure to buy, buy and buy. If I have to, I'll buy the girls their own boxes. No freaking way the cookies are coming home with me. I can resist the cookies - but not a cute little face pleading with me to buy.

As a former girl scout, I am a pushover at cookie time. Fortunately I donate all of mine - and they are nice enough to deliver them to my designated recipient so I never lay eyes (or fingers) on them :)

I will continue my "just say no" policy. 4 years, not a cookie!

And it's that I don't LIKE Girl Scout cookies - but I used to eat entire sleeves of Thin Mints at a time (straight from the freezer, baby!). They are a treat I can't be trusted with.

Being the proud father of a former Brownie and Girl Scout...and a participant in many of the merit badges (where I learned to prepare Tadpole in A Hole for dinner)

a single father that went to ALL the activities and campouts...had my own rooms!

and a father that sat many hours in front of Ralph's grocery store to sell cookies...

and a father that disagrees with the "only means to make money by selling the cookies...(but I am not going there!!)


I will say that I am a "sucker" for all the sellers!! I have bought many...MANY...boxes of cookies and it is rare that we eat any! Very rare....

now then...if they sold chips.....that may be different for me!

Oh my GOD, I love Girl Scout cookies! Thin Mints are the devil's cookie... sooooo good, but so bad!

Ahh Girl Scout cookies! The Samoas.... mmm. But, I've actually come up with a defense strategy- I only buy ThinMints. I can't stand chocolate and mint together, so I just buy a couple boxes of TMs and hand them over to hubby, who in turn works at a boys group home, so he eats one box and usually takes the rest to work. Those little guys don't even stand a chance at the group home.

I must be weird. I like Girl Scout cookies, but I can eat a serving and be done (2-4 cookies depending on variety.) I just order 5 boxes, which will go straight into the freezer to portion out as occasional treats. I do wish they'd bring back the low-fat lemon cremes, but I'm going to try out the new lemon cookies. The Girl Scouts switch up bakers too often, they are always discontinuing or changing names.

I'm with EZMONEY on this one. I'd be in trouble if they sold salty snack type things.

What's in a name? That which we call a Samoa, by any other name would taste as sweet.

I, however, refuse to countenance the downfall of our great society by acknowledging the renaming of the Girl Scout Cookies, a change about which I was not consulted and would have vehemently opposed.

I may have to only grocery shop at Walmart, after dark, for a few weeks. How long does cookie season last? How much are they this year? When I was a plump and rosy-cheeked and excruciatingly cute Brownie Scout, they were two dollars a box. That was in the last couple years of the eighties, though, and the last time I checked, they were (eep!) $3.50/box. How many calories per penny is that? LOL

What's Tadpole in a Hole? We didn't do that in my scout troop.

Samoas (er, caramel delights) are my favorite followed by Thin Mints. Zenor, I do like the new lemon cookies (lemonade), and those I really can stop at one or 2. Samoas--I could easily inhale the entire box and still want more.

Zenor - I can eat a serving and be done with it - butbutbut - I'd think about the cookies too much. I'd be aware they were in my kitchen. Torment. I'm good at resisting the actual food, but not the thought.

I recently bought some ice cream bonbons that taste much like a thin mint. Small, 60 calories each, I can stop at one and not think about them that much. I think it's the Girl Scout cookie packaging I like. :)

Aside from being delicious, they are binge inducing for me because they're so wonderfully CHEWY!

I f serving is a all the cookies in the plastic portion thingy or a full sleeve, then I'm good. not so much on labeled portion size....

There has got to be a better way to raise funds!!! (When I was in Polish Girl Scouts we had a yearly bazaar where all the scout troops would gather in the scouting center and sell hand-made jewelry [it was actually pretty cool], and other hand-made items [different every year] along with Polish food [borscht is not too bad calorie wise and very yummy] and we made a ton of money.) Those cookies are completely addictive!

My twin cousins are brownies so I had to buy two boxes (couldn't slight either one of them) of my favorites Peanut Butter Patties (or whatever they're called now). My goal is to limit myself to 1 cookie per day - that's going to be a toughie.

Last year they had the option of donating them to the troops. I like that option. I hope they do it again this year!

Personally, I never tasted too many of the cookie varieties and mainly stuck with the thin mints. They are very good though. And I hear you guys about foods that you can't be trusted with. I have my list of foods I abuse if left around the house, luckily Girl Scout Cookies isn't on that list. Phew! Good luck to everyone who does though!!! Stay strong!!!

They've gotten so expensive that I don't buy them anymore, but I used to like them when I was younger---I was thinking you were going to say Valentine Candy, as the stores are full of it now and I just have to walk by quickly!!

It was a dish that my daughter and I made for the family, out of a childrens cookbook, for a merit badge! It was little sausages and corn in corn bread mix. I found a recipe on the internet...see picture below!

I talked with her tonight about it as she was driving home from work, she said her favorite dish we made back then was HOT DOG IT'S MACARONI!....I think you can get the recipe from the title ;)

BEST OF ALL.....the time I spent with my daughter!!!!!!!!!!!! the food?....just the BEST EVER!!! ;)

Caramel Delights vs. Samoas
 

I was told the naming change depends on what region you live in. My husband and I moved during cookie season and in the "big" city they were called the PC Caramel Delights and in the smaller city they were still packed as Samoas. Very strange....

My husband still swears the new ones tasted different and not as good. The good thing is if we buy a box I can eat one and don't have the worry about the rest because my husband will DEVOUR them. His gain my loss. :D

We don't touch Thin Mints in this house as the combination of chocolate and mint makes my husband gag something fierce.

Oh, I swatted away the GS at the grocery score this past weekend. I know there's more coming, though.

Those thin mints kill me. And since you can eat them straight from the freezer, I feel like there's nowhere to hide. They aren't crossing our threshold this year.

I had never had a Samoa until last year. Of course I know love them. I knew there was a reason I avoided them... I have always loved the Thin Mints and the Peanut Butter Patties. Just dated myself - they were PBP when I sold cookies, I guess they are Tagalongs now?

I didn't buy a single box last year... When I changed jobs I lost my cookie hookup... She found me the first year, but last year I had changed my number. Not that I changed my cell number to avoid the cookie sale, no, never...

I will NOT buy trefoils
