Ack! *hiding* Frozen thin mints could be my undoing lol

Thanks for the recipe, EZMONEY! All we ever did was "Fiji Island Treat," which was a revolting (in retrospect) mix of sliced bananas and loose shredded coconut, all stirred together in a paper cup and drizzled with honey. And people wonder where I got my atrocious eating habits. LOL OH and we had bologna sandwiches and chips a lot, too.

My scout troop always had a different scout's mother provide the snack for every meeting, and all the other girls' mothers always brought cute little frosted cookies or cupcakes from the bakery, so of course MY mother had to make me take fruit whenever it was her turn. I understand what she was trying to do, and applaud that, but oh, the humiliation of having to explain to all these girls (who already thought I was a freak because I was homeschooled and didn't go to school with them) that instead of a fancy, pretty confection-type treat, we were having kiwi and uglifruit.

I'm glad this thread is here; this is way cheaper than therapy. :dizzy:

And now, Girl Scout Cookie Trivia:

There are TWO bakeries that are authorized to produce girl scout cookies. Each one names some cookies differently (like Caramel deLites vs Samoas), has a slightly different recipe, etc. Even the nutrition facts can vary a bit between two boxes of thin mints from the two separate suppliers. Which supplier a troop uses is up to that troop's regional management, though most pick the one closest to them (which is why it appears to be regional). The two bakeries both have different "specialty" flavors outside of the basics ones required by Girl Scouts. One has a sugar free chocolate chip, and the other, this year, is releasing a 100 calorie pack of a daisy-shaped cookie.

By living in England I am really missing out here?

How does the Girl Scout Cookie thing work..do they make them and sell them, or do the scouts get sent them to distribute?

am curious!

MindiV 01-15-2009 02:22 PM

Ooooh....thin mints and tagalongs!!! Thank the lord we don't have Girl Scouts here...we've got Campfire Girls, and they sell candy I don't like.

The scouts get sent them to distribute. As a former scout, I have a soft spot for the ones out there selling cookies, I'll admit it...

Most of the councils in my area use Little Brownie Bakers for the cookies. A few stray groups here and there use the other one, gets confusing sometimes...

I never cared for girl scout cookies but now I live next door to a girl scout. So I bought a couple boxes, which I'll give to my husband to take to work. Last year was the first time I ever bought girl scout cookies.

The deed is done.
2 boxes of Samoas and 2 boxes of Thin Mints.
And my husband likes neither of those.
This will be my undoing!

Bah!

taragettingthin 01-20-2009 01:06 AM

Last year, I missed the cookie season by like 1 weekend and as I LOVE them oh so much, I was actually calling around to see if I could get one. I was so sad... and when I saw a yard sale where they were selling bunch of GS cookies, you bet I got them. This was pre-weight loss, though.
This year. Oh it will be so difficult. Thank God I am not the one doing grocery shopping but now that I know they are in season, I don't know... Oh the temptation...

jb735u 01-20-2009 07:40 AM

I always talk my wife into getting them for her then i eat them....ill have to not say a word she doesnt gain a single pound:mad:.....i must not say anything for the sake of myself ;)

BillBlueEyes 01-20-2009 01:05 PM

They should be banned.

Thin mints are EVIL

I agree with those who've stated One Serving = One Sleve.

I can't go there. Thanks for the suggestion to donate them to the troops.

Jeannette311 01-20-2009 01:19 PM

This year I don't know any girl scouts, but they annoy me at the stores! Luckily I never carry cash and the little demons don't take credit or debit!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH!

(My bf will have to get his own this year)
