Question uhh... 10lbs in one DAY...?

Alright, so yesterday I weighed in at 171.8. I went through a fairly normal day: Ate a light breakfast (bagel and cream cheese), some leftovers (1/4 calzone) for lunch, taught 4 hours of dance, then came home and had veggie corn dogs and Amy's Mac and cheese, as well as 2 Mike's Hard Lemonades (the only abnormal part of my day). Oh, and of course, snacked on fruits and veggies throughout the day.

This morning I weighed myself at 160.2!!!!!!!!! ...Ummmm... WHAT?

I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I weighed myself again, and then just now--after eating all day, AND a huge dinner-- 162.4.

I've decided that I'm going to put my scale in my closet until next week... And, weirdly enough, I'm HOPING it goes back up... 10lbs in one day seems a little extreme.

I've been plateaued at 170-173 for about 2 months now... it's funny that I'd like to see that number again...!!!

Anyone have any ideas of how/why this happened? It's just a fluke... right?

Maybe your scale has been broken the past month when it has been stalled, and this is your real weight!

OK, that's the best case scenario, granted. You probably need a new scale or new scale battery (have you checked the battery?). If you put a hand weight on it, does it register the correct weight?

Does your scale have a battery in it that is getting wacky? Is the scale old? I have what I call my "happy scale". I get on it, get off, turn it around, get on, and I'm 5-8 pounds lighter I only do that when I'm particularly flaky! My other scale is unfortunately, quite accurate.

On the other hand, did you just finish up TOM? Or had a lot of salty carby food over the weekend and are now dropping the water?

Every scale has flukes like that. I went to the doctor about a month ago, got weighed, and then got weighed about 20 minutes later (no eating, nothing changed!) and there was a five pound difference. If something like that can happen with an expensive scale at the doctor's office, I wouldn't get too freaked out about it. You may have even broken your scale in the day between... maybe try another one?

Hmm... That's the weird thing! I was jumping on and off the thing so much, I swear I did my exercise quota for the day! And every time--same result...

I'll check the battery-- because TOM isn't for 2 weeks, and my eating has been consistent... But it's a fairly new scale. Also-- I'm going to a friends house tonight, so maybe I'll see my normal weight on her scale.. lol

Lol--Mandalinn-- wouldn't that be a dream...!!! Wish it were so I guess time will tell!

I've had that happen (well 5 pounds, not 10) after a plateau. One day, I'm one weight and BAM the next I've dropped a ton of weight. No explanations. Weird.

I agree with others, though. Check the battery.

Not to be too indelicate, but did you pee a lot? I can often tell when those weight drops (well, mine aren't *that* big) are coming by all the water in the toilet .

To be honest I've had it happen to me before - not 10 lbs, but 8. I won a 5# challenge with a "whoosh" like that.

I think it is possible that you have been losing weight all along and just retaining water or something else that has affected the scale.

My big whoosh was 3 days after the end of my period AND 5 days after I got back from a trip to Denver where I had lots of salty restaurant foods, lots of late nights working, lots of walking around at altitiude, and lots of time in airports and airplanes. All while on my period. But suddenly on that Wednesday, after a few days of getting bck into my routine and drinking LOTS of water ... there it was.

It was a freak of nature and I'd love for it to happen again, but I doubt it will!

Enjoy it while you can!

.
