Default When do you burn your skinny jeans?

Last night I tried on a pair of jeans that I wore about 4 years ago when I was in pretty good shape. They aren't a size 2 or anything unrealistic. I never had to starve in order to wear them, but let's just say my body was fairly nice back then and now it's....not so much.

As I tugged them up as far as they could go I stood in front of the bathroom mirror. How did this happen? How did I ever wear these? (For the record, I wore them because I worked out 6 days a week and restricted calories, but still.) I was able to get them up on my hips but the button is about 4 inches from the button hole... And muffin top? Try bunt cake top!

I figure the only way I will wear these jeans again is if I set them on fire and roll around in the ashes.

Now, do I give them to a shelter, or is there still hope? I want to lose 30-40 pounds, and I actually was at that weight when I wore them before...but I just wonder if it's still going to be impossible...

Anyone ever slid back into a pair of jeans that were this far gone?

So your current weight is 195? I think it'd be reasonable to get down 30-40 lbs and possibly more. I'd keep the jeans as motivation. Now if you said you wore the jeans 20 years ago, I'd say torch them.

Were I you, I'd hold onto them, and probably try them on once a month to see how my progress is coming along.

Yes I'm 195 now. I have wide hips and big boobs etc. I am built more like a Kate Winslet or J-Lo than a naturally thin and small girl. For me to weigh 130 is a full time job complete with near starvation diet and NFL quality work out. I'm just not made that way.

I would give them away, especially if they make you feel bad.

You'll want hip new jeans after the weight loss!

LOL!!!

I would hang on to them. Think about how excited you'll be when you can slide back into them once you've reaced goal! If you still can't after reaching goal, torch them. They're 20 years old, but my dad still has clothes from high school (he's 50+). Unless your house is busting at the seams and you have no storage room, I'd hang them on a hook to remind you of where you want to be.

Keep 'em, I think it is more exciting to fit into an old pair of small jeans that you used to wear than to buy new ones.

I agree. Keep them. I have a pair of jeans that keep to remind me of why i am doing this. to remind myself that if i could wear them then, i can wear them again with alot of hard work and some perserverence. I bought a pair of jeans recently that i thought i would fit in now. (They said the same size as my others) but you know how every company's size 16 is not always a size 16, well these weren't. So i could barley get them up tp my butt with out passing out from exhaustion. But the other day i pulled them up and even buttoned them................now i said i buttoned them not that they looked good or i could breathe for very long in them, but you know what i could not even do that before, so i felt a little victory about that. i am just that much closer to fitting in them even though they are nowhere close to the goal jeans i want to fit into.

I went through my closet and looked at all my old "skinny" clothes from when I lost weight the first time-I don't think any of them would have gone past my knees (I gain in the pear shape.) So I boxed them up and sent donated to the Vietnam Veterans of America, who periodically ask for donations in my neighborhood. I only kept the "skinny jeans" that are the size of my mini-goal (14/16.) This way the old jeans don't haunt me, the ones I have either fit or are a reasonable goal, and I get to have fun trying on new jeans when I reach my big (little) goal!

I guess I should keep them, at least until I'm happy with my body. Then, if I still can't fit into them, I will give them away. They would be a good measuring stick for progress...as long as I try them on once a month and not every other day.
