  • Quote: At nearly 50 pounds lost, I *still* don't see a difference when I look in the mirror. But you know what? My sister sent me a collage recently (after I whined to her about seeing no difference) of before and after pictures she's taken, and the difference in print is substantial. You can see them here if you want to.

So my advice is TAKE THE PICTURES. Get your husband to take them so you don't have to look at them, and put them away until you're ready to take more pictures. I think you'll find the differences are pretty amazing when you keep photographic evidence around.
Great job! There is HALF of you in 2008 compared to 2003!

Thanks, Tomato! It just goes to show how amazing it is that we can't see the changes in ourselves from day to day. I hated having pictures taken of me when I was at my heaviest, but now I'm so glad my family insisted.
  • Don't get yourself down. Take pictures. I have some pictures taken of me that I hate looking at but they're on my refrigerator to say the least. I think pictures like everybody else has said really opens your eyes to the differences OTHER people see when you lose weight. My husband and I have been SERIOUSLY doing our lifestyle change for close to 3 weeks now and I've only lost 1.5 pounds and he's lost close to 8 already. It doesn't help hubby already has a physical job to start with anyways. So I sympathize and I think we all do!
  • It's been 3 weeks for us too =). I skipped my bike ride this morning, I was just too exhausted. NORMALLY I get up at 3:30 am every day to ride but I go to bed about 8:30pm. Last night I had a homeowners meeting to go to and didn't even get HOME until 9pm and to bed by 10:30 so I just couldn't do it. I am not going to beat myself up about it, I am going to continue on today and get up tomorrow at 3:30 and ride my bike. I keep telling myself internally "It took almost 20 years to put the weight on...it will take more than 3 weeks to take it off". I CAN DO IT!!!

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”
  • Have you ever seen that commercial for that Slim-Quick stuff? Where the lady on there says, "my husband stopped drinking soda and this happened" (he gets really thin) then she says, "I stopped drinking soda and this happened (her boobs shrink) and then she continues, "now neither one of us is happy." lol. So true! Us women have to work twice as hard to lose unfortunately.

When I was a kid and losing weight (I was a heavy kid) my mom would measure my cousin and me instead of weighing us. (my cousin was heavy too and did the wl thing with me) By measuring, you see more of a difference than you do in weighing yourself. I think she would measure us weekly? You could do bi-weekly if that would work better.
