Dear Sakai:

Hi. I am new to this website and this is the first post I am making. I understand completely what you have gone through. When my father died I got completely derailed from my weight loss goals. I had been in a really good place, eating reasonable and exercising regular. I had lost 10 pounds a month for 3 months running, then my father died. It is a long story, but basically he denied he was terminal until it was too late and made my Mom not tell anyone, including us kids. I didn't know he was terminal until the day before he died. It was hard to deal with for us, but it just got worse as relatives arrived, all very upset that they hadn't gotten a chance to say goodbye, etc. I think we all didn't stop eating from the evening he passed until well after the funeral. Anyway, that was some time ago, but I remember how dissapointed I was about it.

My current story is that I work as a medical transcriptionist and sit typing from around 7 a.m. until around 2:30 p.m. or later. I started typing at home about six years ago. Within six months I had put on 30 pounds. (i had been 200). I have hovered at 230 all this time. Last year I got married and partied a lot between the wedding in September and New Year's. By then I had put on another 10 pounds. So I am now 240 and I am really committed to loosing it. I have had a very hard time in my life ever asking help from anyone about anything, but I have realized that I can't do this alone. I have tried many diets and am at a point where I realize that I have to be truly commited to daily exercise and portion control.

I am starting tomorrow a new schedule where I will exercise in the morning before I start work. I have been trying to fit it in after work, but it keeps getting lost in the shuffle. I have never exercised regularly and commiting to this is not easy for me.

So, this is my first post, and I am saying hi to everyone.

welcome ariela72 I'm also sorry to hear about your dad. I hope this site can help you as much as it has helped me ^_^

JayEll- eep!. but you are right, i shouldn't have been in that ice cream shop.
I ended up spending 3 hours cooking the wednesday morning and was not a happy camper by the time it was over, But I felt good that I did it anyway when all I wanted to do was sleep.

I skipped the gym today because I helped my best friend move in and I think hauling a treadmill around as well as a dozen boxes counts as a bit of a work-out I didn't get to bed until 12:30 in the after noon and only woke up a hour ago and now I have a hour until it's time to get ready for work. Yikes!

I'm glad my best friend is moving in. We'll be great motivation for each other to hit the gym as often as we can and to make good food choices. I'll also always have a gym buddy so I don't have to go alone.

Work right now sucks. It's inventory time and they work us like slaves. >_< so much so that these past two days the last thing I want to do is get out of bed and go to the gym. I should know better, I do know better. I think half the reason is my DF he hardly wants to go the gym after having a rough day busting his *** at work. and I understand that he's tired and sore and so am I but I know the stuff we do at work can't count as exersise because obviously we're not losing weight.

I should just start going without him and not feel guily about leaving him at home. Though sometimes he caves in and comes with me when I say I'm leaving without him, but then he groan and gripes the whole way there and a bit afterwards too.

I weighed myself two times a day and noticed something odd. I weigh 3 pounds less right after waking up. Strange, where does that weight go? I was sleeping. I had no visits to the potty, nothing. And it happened 3 days in a row and it just baffles me that 3 pounds of something dissapears while I'm sleeping 0.o

Sakai,

Yes, you have to go on your own. Don't let anyone else's attitude stop you from doing what you have to do.

About the weight difference. Many people weigh less in the mornings. One reason is that you haven't been eating all night--and so, your body has been burning stored energy to keep you alive.

When the body burns energy, it uses oxygen to convert sugars and other molecules (including fats) into carbon dioxide and water. So, in part, you're evaporating! Seriously, you're losing mass in the air you breathe out. And water leaves the body in the form of vapor also. Plus, I'll bet that you pee first thing before you weigh--correct? Well, that's more weight gone. Remember, a half a cup of liquid is 8 ounces = half a pound.

Then, if you drink a couple of cups of water, coffee, tea, etc. you add liquid weight--and if you eat, the food weighs a certain amount. This goes on all day.

That's why to see real weight loss it's best to record your weight once a week, weighing at the same time of day.

Jay
