I'm A Married Man ~ And A Cheater!

;) But I only "cheat" on MYSELF!

Why do I do that? Angie went out this morning on a 3 mile run with our Golden Retriever's, came home had a piece of whole wheat toast with a little peanut butter a half a :cb: and a cup of tea, did some yoga and is off picking up school supplies for her classroom and the new Harry Potter book.

I, on the other hand, was up an hour before her, at 5am and all I have managed to do is ~

Read 2 sports pages

Post in several threads here

Put on Elvis CD's

and eat tortilla chips with cheddar cheese for breakfast!

Why do I "cheat" on myself?

I am going to try and hold myself accountable for my "cheating" by posting here every day how I cheated myself....

Feel free to join me...I need all the support I can get!

Gary

alinnell 07-22-2007 02:05 PM

Gary, you sound like me! DH and I didn't do our Sunday walk (for the umpteenth Sunday in a row) because it was too hot and humid. We slept in instead.

I can't say the eating was bad--I've been pretty much OP for the past week.

I won't mention the beer with lunch yesterday or the wine each night with dinner.

Oops, I mentioned it!

almostheaven 07-22-2007 02:11 PM

Can't help ya today. Now YESTERDAY, I visited the folks. And that's ALWAYS cheat day. Too much junk sitting around, no healthy stuff available. So mom opens a can of peas. The next thing I know, there's a half a stick of BUTTER sitting on top of them and she's popping them in the microwave. She won't change how she puts a half a stick in those or a half stick in the candied yams with a half pound of brown sugar...COMON'! They're ALREADY candied!!!! So I have to eat very little of everything and try to work around it. Found some microwavable Asian dumplings in the freezer to add to my meal as they weren't very high calorie. Then my brother had a wrestling match yesterday, so its off for the hour drive over to OH, no time for dinner, so its a hotdog with just mustard and ketchup, no chili or slaw, and a popcorn for dinner. Blech. I'm not even very fond of hotdogs. And of course on a day like that, the only exercise is moving from car to parents' house and back to car to grandpa's house and back to car to Value City with my aunt and back to car to wrestling, and finally car to home. Is that exercise?

But today, I've been out painting the fence. Had a whole wheat pancake with half a banana and some blueberry All Fruit on top, some cottage cheese and olives for a snack and eating a Lean Cuisine now for lunch before I head out to the store.

phantastica 07-22-2007 02:21 PM

I was a cheater all day yesterday, in terms of food choices. I ate Don Pablo's for lunch and some pizza for dinner. I worked out quite a bit, but the food choices didn't match the great workout.

Steelslady 07-22-2007 02:40 PM

I kind of got off track with two vacations in a months time, as well as a birthday celebration for my father-in-law, so lots of unhealthy foods around me no matter where I turned.

I came back Friday from vacation, and right now, we're trying to eat up what's left of the camping food we have leftover. Not too bad, as it was meats, cheese (to which we can use all week on the diet) and breads, no junk was leftover, lol. Still, yesterday was not so good for me, went over 1800 calories for sure.

I was hoping summer would be easier to get the weight off, but I find it's worse, with all the BBQ's, family gatherings and vacations. We haven't had any real hot days up here, so I haven't been able to swim like I wanted to in the lake out back.

Needless to say, I am very frustrated right now. :(

lilybelle 07-22-2007 03:03 PM

Gary, we all cheat ourselves at times. My food yesterday wasn't too great. Actually got tired of eating and went to bed early. LOL. My eating today has been fine and I've done a lot of heavy duty housecleaning. So, I'm trying to redeem myself today.
My SD got the new Harry Potter book in the mail yesterday. She stayed up til 4AM reading it and is half finished with it already. I have never read a single one of them or seen the movies so I don't imagine I'll start now. LOL.

The summer is always hard for me too with the BBQ's and such...oh, and the fall with :thanks2: Thanksgiving, but....oh and of course winter with :santa: Christmas and :newyear: New Years...but I am pretty awesome in the spring...except of course the 2 months around :easter2: Easter ;)

THANKS FOR JOINING ME FELLOW CHEATERS!

KAR73 07-22-2007 04:01 PM

Hi everyone,
I can relate to what you all are saying. I do really well during the school year, but summer time is the worse time for me. I guess during the school year, I am busy planning and teaching my special needs kids and running here and there for the stepkids in the evenings. But during the summer, it is so much more relaxed and I tend to find myself grazing on food in the house rather than sitting down to a regular meal somedays. Plus it doesn't help that we went to Sams Club a few weeks ago and bought a 7 pound bag of Brach's Hard Candies. So I am trying to limit myself to 5 or less pieces aday.
I guess I am making up for those pieces of candy and grazing of food now, since I am pushing mowing my lawn today. But I had to come in and take a break, needed lots of water and to sweat the sweat out of my eyes.
Hope you are all having a great day!
Kerry

jtammy 07-22-2007 04:02 PM

This has been my week to CHEAT. We were on vacation this week, and I have been cheating since Tuesday. I kind of got back on track yesterday, but then I had 325 calories of Edy's slow churned choc n roll light ice cream this morning while my family went to church. (I played hooky - so I guess I cheated there too. :() Some days I almost manage to convince myself that if I eat it standing up right out of the container, the calories don't count.

By the way, this is :carrot:fantastic:carrot: ice cream - 130 calories for 1/2 cup.

JayEll 07-22-2007 04:55 PM

Hello, Cheaters! ;)

It's interesting about this "sneaky food behavior"--meaning, when the family or significant other is elsewhere, and suddenly out come the bad foods...

Here are some of my sneaky food behaviors of the past:

- Picking up a bag of candies at the grocery store checkout and eating them all on the way home. Oh, and hiding the empty bag at the bottom of the car's trash holder.

- Making a secret stop at McD's or BK or Wendy's, going through the drive-thru, and then parking and eating the goods in my car. Being sure to get rid of the evidence.

- Stopping for an ice cream cone and not telling anybody about it.

Reading these now, it strikes me that these behaviors are similar to those of addicts and alcoholics! It's like an addiction to certain types of foods. So, for EZMONEY's questions, "Why do I do that? Why do I cheat on myself?"--part of the answer might be an addictive behavior. Hmmm... time for a food fix?

I don't go to fast food places anymore--the food just doesn't appeal to me now. And, I always track the calories of everything I eat. There are no "magical calories" that don't count. ;) So, I save the candy bag, for example, so I can use the nutritional panel. It all goes into my daily total. And I don't hide what I eat from others--it's just not good for me to do that.

ennay 07-22-2007 06:04 PM

yesterday I volunteered to go to the autoparts store for dh so he could get started on draining the oil and not have to stop working and waste time. He really wanted to get that oil change done yesterday and wouldnt have had time if I hadnt. Arent I a sweet wife?

Oh....yeah...except for the (preplanned and insidious hidden agenda) drive through icecream cone on the way home. Honestly it was the main reason I volunteered. :dizzy:

Summer is harder for me too. In the winter I dont really want to go out to eat, but in the summer I want to be out and about which means eating out and I just have to have the magical cold sweet stuff.

KAR73 07-22-2007 06:33 PM

Jay you hit the nail right on the head. I could agree with everything you said. Because I have done every one of those things myself. Especially the one about stopping at Wendy's. I did that last night on my way home from dropping my stepdaughter's cell phone charger off at her mom's house. I went through the drive-thru and got a small Frosty. After eating it, I wondered to myself why did I just do that. Then it was come home and munch on cheddar cheese and dill pickles because the hubby and step-sons were doing it. But I must say that I all day today I have craved a small hot fudge sundae with peanuts from the DQ. I even planned on going to get it after getting cleaned up from my shower from mowing the lawn. But after mowing the lawn, now I don't want it.
Ennay, that was very sweet of you to go get the oil for your dh yesterday. You are such a sweet wife! I have went to the store for my hubby at times too, so I can either get a candy bar or small ice cream cone. I have to bribe my stepkids when they go with so they don't blab my secret. I tell them if they tell on me, I will never let them buy them a candy bar or ice cream cone again when it is just us in the car. Isn't that a mean stepmommy? LOL
Well I think I am going to go be lazy for a little bit and read a book. Chat with all you wonderful "cheaters" later.
Kerry

Elerine 07-23-2007 05:39 AM

Well, as I sit here eating my triple cream brie cheese, i'd love to say that cheating is not my style. But it is. Whenever my partner is out, or whenever I'm out and he isn't, its a gorge fest. chocolate for lunch anyone? I'm a chronic scoffer, so bad that not even the girls in my regular thread hear about it.

wow. naughty me!

almostheaven 07-23-2007 09:26 AM

Here's a baaaaaaaaaaaad cheat that I HOPE no one HERE actually does. But my mom would get all the junk food out of the house trying to get dad to lose weight. Especially after his family doctor of many years said she was going to refuse to see him anymore if he didn't lose 25 lbs. by his next appt. He didn't, and she kept on seeing him. ::sigh::

Anyway, dad would have my daughter for the day, and they'd go pick up my mom from work and mom would see an empty potato chip bag in the floor and ask. He blamed them on my daughter. It wasn't until years later we found out that she hadn't been eating them. He made her LIE for him!!!

JayEll 07-23-2007 09:35 AM

Almostheaven, that is so sad. :( It's bad enough to do these things, but to involve children in the deception--well, what kind of message does that teach them?

EZMONEY 07-23-2007 09:46 AM

As far as today goes, so far anyway, I haven't cheated :carrot:

Angie and I went to the store and bought me oatmeal for breakfast ~ to have instead of my usual nothing or nachos

And I ate it!

I weighed myself last night I was 205 and this morning I was 201 ~ so gals that is the little secret no one told me about....

All you have to do to lose weight is to SLEEP! that's it! :carrot: Oh, and maybe....just maybe...it had something to do with being up a lot peeing ;)

Then again, that's what I am always telling Angie ~ "See Babe, it doesn't really matter how many beers I have, 'cause by morning they are all gone anyway!!" ;)

Off to work.............

not gonna cheat....not gonna cheat...not gonna cheat....not....not....not.....

Steelslady 07-23-2007 10:53 AM

LMAO. You should write "The Dieter's Daily Affirmation"! :D You are just hilarious.

NO CHEATING TODAY!!!!! Today is my low calorie day- if I can survive without cheating, so can you. :carrot:

:lol3:

Oh, if only it were true. Trip to my favorite local brew pub had me "cheating" yesterday. Deliciously :T

wisher 07-23-2007 11:03 AM

I cheated yesterday too! For a late lunch (and inevitably it became "dinner" because I wasn't hungry for the rest of the day!) I went out to Gameworks (which is similar to Dave & Busters) and I had a huge bbq bacon cheese burger (that also had 2 fried onion rings on top) along with french fries! The burger was giant, a 1/2 pound of beef, and I totally cleaned my plate! Oh well, it's back to business as usual today :D

KAR73 07-23-2007 01:17 PM

Glad to hear that everyone is doing great today! I have been good to so far today. I got up and eat a small bowl of Cheerios that I measured out for a change. LOL Then I did a 50 minute workout with Denise Austin. Am finding muscles that I didn't even knew exisited. LOL But that is a good thing!
Gary glad you were able to eat some oatmeal for breakfast. Way to go instead of reaching for nachos or nothing at all! That is great about the 4 pound loss too! Keep up the good work!
Almost Heaven that is so sad about your dad asking your daughter to lie for him. It is bad enough he lied about his eating habits but to incorparte your daughter in on his scam is something else.
Wisher your lunch sounds really great! I find myself doing that sometimes on the weekend. My hubby and I will have a late lunch and end up making that my dinner too. Then just eat a light snack.
Well I better go and get lunch ready for the kids, dh and myself. Dh and I are working on sharing the lunch making process. Chat with you all later!
Take care,
Kerry

jtammy 07-23-2007 09:41 PM

Whew, The day is almost over and I haven't cheated at all. My first day in a week without some kind of cheat. Now I've got to keep it up so I can recover from "vacation scale".

KAR73 07-23-2007 09:57 PM

Tammy that is great that you had a great day with out a sweet treat. Keep up the good work! You will reach your goal in no time.
I had a great day to and didn't cheat once. So thanks Gary for starting this thread. I think it is going to help all of us stay accountable and reach our goals.
Have a great evening everyone!
Kerry

EZMONEY 07-23-2007 10:19 PM

Well dinner is over and so far I haven't cheated! This morning I had my oatmeal, then I came home from work and had lunch, before an appointment with the eye doctor. I had 4 pieces of turkey bacon on a whole wheat tortilla with lettuce and a small tomato on it. I took a small bag of :carrot: and a box of raisins with me to snack on after the doctor, on my way to another job.

Got home from work and had a beer, Angie made a salad, corn salsa, and some flautas. Of course I ate 1 more flauta than I needed...but I wanted more than I ate! I am on my second beer...if I stop there I will be on "my" diet ;)

So since the night is still young I am not sure if I am a cheater today...I feel pretty good about myself today though!

KERRY ~You are so welcome! I am proud of you for not cheating today! You get the NOT CHEATIN' :val1: award!!

JTAMMY ~You also get a NOT CHEATIN' :val1: for your awesome work today!

WISHER ~No award for you after that burger :burger: I want :tantrum: one :tantrum: too!

SHANANIGANS ~ All those micro brews popping up everywhere are just making it too hard on us! Not fair!!

STEELSLADY ~Well? did ya cheat? Can't give out an award without proof ;)

Have a great evening ladies!

phantastica 07-23-2007 10:35 PM

I cheated. I cheated on my romaine lettuce, with a gooey piece of chocolate cake.

EZMONEY 07-23-2007 11:07 PM

Oh PHANTASTICA!:o

Steelslady 07-23-2007 11:43 PM

I still have 239 calories left to consume, so I can honestly say, I didn't cheat today. :carrot:

And, no, EZMONEY, you can't have them. I need them for my lavash bread pizza I plan on making in a little while. :D

By the way, I am proud of you for sticking to your diet today. Keep it up, EZMONEY, it does get easier, I promise!

Congrats to everyone else for staying on track today. For those that didn't, don't despair, tommorrow's only a few hours away, a new day, new beginning. :)

EZMONEY 07-23-2007 11:48 PM

Well then STEELSLADY since you are on that "other" coast...and it is only about 10 minutes away from tomorrow for you...you get one!

NOT CHEATIN' :val1: award for YOU!!

Steelslady 07-24-2007 02:44 PM

Awe, I'm honored! :carrot: I actually had a tiny pancake with syrup and 2 slices of low fat bacon instead of the pizza. I had 8 calories to spare, but of course, didn't use them. :D

Where's all the cheery cheaters/non-cheaters today?

KAR73 07-24-2007 08:07 PM

Hi everyone,
Hope everyone had a great day! I went to my TOPS meeting tonight. Now I am a little depressed. I gained a pound. I don't know how I could have because I have been eating healthier, smaller portions, drinking more water and unsweetened iced tea and working out daily. I guess I just need to stick to it and it will pay off in the long run. My first impulse is to reach for some food. But I am not going to do that. I guess I will grab a bottle of water and read a few pages out of book to take my mind of the gain.
Steelslady great job on staying under your calories yesterday. Way to go!
Keep the great work!
Hope you all have a great evening!
Kerry

mom2cole 07-24-2007 08:17 PM

Well, today I cheated and had some microwave popcorn, the movie theater type, didn't eat the whole bag though!! I also felt guilty and hopped on treadmill when I was done! So I burned off some of that fatty butter.

EZMONEY 07-24-2007 08:37 PM

:carrot: Looks like I need to hand out some NOT CHEATIN' :val1: awards to ~

MOM-TO-COLE ~OK...you did cheat:sssh: a little but if made up for it by doing the treadmill and by not eating the whole bag of :corn:

KERRY ~ You are not going to lose EVERY week..way to stay focused!

STEELSLADY ~ WOW! 8 calories left!! :carrot:

OK dears ~ I did pretty good again today. I had a bowl of oatmeal and 3 pieces of turkey bacon for breakfast, carrots and celery for a snack, salad for lunch and the a box of rasins. I am on my second beer after work...no award for me yet ;) Still waiting for Angie to call me for dinner...so we shall see if I get an award.

BUT GREAT JOB FOR MY FELLOW CHEATERS!

jtammy 07-24-2007 10:33 PM

Hi Cheaters - or not - as the case may be.

Kerry, Just keep doing what you're doing and the weight will come off. It's not unusual to have some weeks without a loss.

Today was a good day again for me. Day two of no cheats. It is so much easier to not cheat when I have to work. Of course I love vacation days but it is so easy to get off track on those days.

Congrats to those who haven't cheated. :dust: to those who have.

Steelslady 07-25-2007 12:40 AM

Yeehaw!!!! Day two of not going over my calories! :carrot: I still have another 217 calories left for today- me thinks I'm going to have one piece of Light Raisin Bread (been craving it all day, saving it for my night snack, heh heh) and two Wasa Crisps with Roundel Garlic and Herb spread and a tall glass of Totally Light 2 Go, Wild Berry/Pomegranate Antidoxant for my beverage. MMMMMM MMMMM :D I have an extra 20 calories left over- anyone want to buy them? :D

Congrats to the non-cheaters today, and to the cheaters- I hope you enjoyed the yummies, jump back on the wagon tommorrow so you can cheat again next month. :D

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-25-2007 09:12 PM

GARY ~ this is a very funny thread. I was always wondering as I perused around this site, lurking here and there ~ am I the only one who has a treat, I mean, cheat now and then. So many people have stalls like I did last winter; that's why I came to this site in the first place.

Last Christmas was a bomb for me! Treats and chocolate and goodies everywhere you went; I bought gobs of them, then ended up giving 2/3 of them away after a guilt binge. OH, I ate my fair share, of course, just before my beloved departed, departed ~ LOL.

Do you think that I am having a love affair with food? Is that cheating? Yes, I am married ~ oops!

Oh, and BTW ~ just how many do you have a day, GARY? tsk, tsk, tsk ...

But seriously, I am doing better these days ~ but, no doubt, I will never be able to totally give up my treat days; and I dunnawanna!

;) ROSEBUD ;)

EZMONEY 07-25-2007 11:13 PM

HI FELLOW CHEATERS

Yes I did cheat "MYSELF" today. I started out pretty good though. For breakfast I had oatmeal and 3 pieces of turkey bacon again. For a snack I had carrots :carrot: and celery AGAIN, for lunch I had a salad and raisins. I had 2 beers when I got home from work...so far so good (for me) then Angie says "You ready to go get dinner?"...I just remembered that I had told her that I wanted KFC for dinner, I have a KFC attack about twice a year and this week was one. Sure, off we go...she drives (my 2 beers) and pulls up and orders the 8 piece...grilled. Thinking QUICKLY I BLURT out from the passenger side "12 PIECE half grilled, half extra crispy".... (since it was her, me and nephew)DANG! I shoulda stayed with Angie's order!

Anyway, I did have a piece of grilled but also 2 pieces of crispy. I would have had more...in the old days! So I guess I did better...plus no biscut or mashed potatoes.

Did drink my third beer though. oops!

So today no award for me....BUT......... I do have a few awards to give out :carrot:

ROSEBUD gets a YOU'RE NOT CHEATIN' :val1: because she came over here from another site of ours and admitted she is a CHEATER. Welcome dear!

STEELSLADY gets a YOU'RE NOT CHEATIN' :val1: today because of her "snack"...I have never heard of those things...are they anywhere near the potatoe chips? ;)

TAMMY gets a YOU'RE NOT CHEATIN' :val1: because she admits that SHE DID NOT CHEAT! :carrot:

Have a great Thursday gals!! and remember when we cheat...it not only hurts us...but our loved ones too!

Be good to yourselves gals...but in a healthy way!!!

INVU 07-25-2007 11:24 PM

I try and be good but its hard ONE DAY AT A TIME:carrot::cb::broc:

EZMONEY 07-25-2007 11:33 PM

No problem INVU if ONE day at a time is hard...then go for TWO!

Just because I am a wiseguy you get a YOU'RE NOT CHEATIN' :val1: for coming on board!

blondebritbrat17 07-26-2007 12:20 AM

That's a really good way to think of it, cheating yourself out of a good quality life and a life free from health hassles. Thanks for a new perspective on weight loss!

KAR73 07-26-2007 12:24 AM

Evening everyone,
I had a good day today. We went shopping for new tennis shoes and workout clothes today. Stopped at Taco Bell and had two soft tacos with lettuce, cheese and meat. I usually go for the sour cream and extra goodies. But stayed at that! Then for dinner had a 6 inch Subway Club on wheat with veggies. So I did good today with my eating. Can't say that I got my workout in though. Had to go shopping, then went to job training for a part-time job and then went bowling this evening. So I am one tired person right now. I will throw a few extra minutes into my workouts though on Thursday and Friday. Will that make up for not working out today?
Glad that you all stayed on goal today! Keep up the great work!
Well I will check in with you all tomorrow.
Have a great evening.
Kerry

phantastica 07-26-2007 06:38 AM

I didn't cheat yesterday! I had a planned meal in a restaurant on a date, but we split an entree instead of eating an entire one each ourselves.
