Default I'm normal!! Well...sorta

So I had an appointment today at the docs because I've had irregular periods for a long time and no periods in about 2 years. I got very concerned that it was PCOS. I got an appointment with a gyn today and turns out everything is pretty much okay. She did an ultrasound and my ovaries looks great.

I was so worried that she would say something about my weight, but instead she praised me for my weight loss and encouraged me not to go too quickly, but to be steady with it. She was soooo sweet! Especially for something so embarassing.

I suggested Metformin and she aggreed that it's the best choice to get my periods regular again. I get migraines with oras so she told me I should NEVER go on birth control pills of any kind.

I'm gonna be fine And I'm gonna be able to have kids! Okay, so I maybe was worrying too much before, but now I feel so much better.

For one...the doctor wasn't a stuck up little snob, and that's one less thing that I have to worry about!

My mind has been like this all week ------->

Congratulations! I remember the feeling I had when I went to the gyno about my irregular periods... I was so scared to ask but I had to... am I gonna be able to have kids?? The yes answer is the best feeling ever! And even though a lot of people have said to me, "Man you were lucky not having your period!" the peace of mind every month is worth it

aggreed. Everyone used to say "You must feel sooo lucky!"...well. "no" was my answer because things go through your mind "Well, obviously if I'm not ovulating I can't have kids, so I need to fix this". And also if you're not shedding that lining on your uterus, you can develop cancer later in life. I love my period!! I can't want to be regular again! Bring on Cousin Red!!

Yay! You must feel so relieved! I had a female issue at one time (different type) and felt so much better once I found out it wasn't a big deal! Congrats on the good news!

I wish I could get into the dr. No health insurance. I haven't had a period for 2 and a half years. But miracle of miracles, I started yesterday....even though I'm not sure its a full blown AF, I'm praying......we have been trying for over 3 years...but like you said, no ovulation=no babies. Gives me motivation to lose the weight to see if it helps! Yay for feeling that relief! Lucky girl!

I was told I could never have kids....truth was all I needed was the pill to get me going. Apparently, I had too low of estrogen in my body, and once I started taking the pill, I got pregnant! I was taking it for treatment for endometriosis. Three kids and alot of different forms of birth control later.....here I am.

Congrats again!!! And enjoy your "friend-free" time!!!! I know you're concerned about the possibility of cancer.....but you never know what will happen, and it's only a minor part of it. I was told I'd be menopausal by now, and I'm not. Don't worry too much, our bodies can do some strange things and still be completely normal and healthy for us!

While I appreciate your postive attitude, not everyone will be as lucky as you've been. Possibility of cancer Is MINOR? Tell that to my family! Everyone in my family that has passed has passed from cancer. My "no periods" is and was not a blessing. HAVING them is a blessing. I'm not getting upset at you, but you have to know that just because there are those few people that beat the odds, like yourself, doesn't mean someone else is like that. Everyone's body is different.

Anyways...I'm still dancing around because I'm on metformin and hopefully will see some regularity soon.

Katrina, I'm very happy to hear how things have turned out in your life, as I'm sure you are. Not a one of us wants to miss seeing our children live and grow up. I'm also sure that you're a much better person because of what you've gone through. I didn't mean to flip out....I've just lost many of those close to me in too short a time span. I guess I've seen the more negative outcomes when Doctors have given positive. My uncle was supposed to be able to walk again and live for many years, but he passed a couple of weeks after they said that. I guess that's one thing about cancer. A lot of it can be prevented....but many people say "Chose your death". I hate that saying. My brother says it to me all the time when I mention that he drinks too much sugar pop (5 liters a day plus gaterade). I know that that can overtax the pancreas and kill you. *sigh*

I guess I'm at that point in my life where I want to do everything I can to keep myself healthy. I know that doesn't mean that I won't die when God so choses to take me, but until then....I want to be healthy. I also want to have kids and I guess I'm so happy to be seeing my period soon. Maybe I'll throw myself a party...

sorry for jumping down your throat.....you're so positive and that's so good! Never change that...your children will really need it some day. I can imagine your face when you found out you were pregnant for the first time.

Again, I'm sorry..

CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING NORMAL! I have PCOS so I know how glad you must be NOT to have it. I have always dreamed of being a mother, back in high school when everyone was deciding what they wanted to do for a living all I thought about was wanting to be a mother. But most likely that wont ever happen for me. I haven't had a period in almost 4 yrs. I get a lot of people saying "wow it must be cool to not get aunt flow" But honestly I'd rather have "aunt flow" everyday if it meant I could have a child of my own. Anyway, I have babbled on long enough!
CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!!!

See Piiper...this is where I understand you. I'd rather have my period as well. Have you talked to your doc about Metformin? It's supposed to help bring back regularity for people with PCOS. It's worth a try? I know how hard that is because I"m the same as you. When everyone else was saying they wanted to be lawyers, doctors, dentists...and I'm like "I just want to be a mom!". That was me.

Me Too! I am right there with you. Its a whole different path for us no AF people....I wish to high heaven that mine would start so bad, and become regular. At least I would feel that the odds were more on my side. Piiper, I feel for you...I really do. My heart goes out to you in a big hug. We have been TTC for over 3 years, and I don't have any answers. But I wouldn't be suprised if I was right there in PCOS with you. Did they say if you lost some weight it might help? I don't know much about PCOS. But I have met a lot of people online that have it. Hugs to you!!!

I had to look up PCOS and AF (duh - Aunt Flo). I sure sympathize with any of you who suffer from PCOS. Years ago, I had a friend who had it. She called it Stein-Leventhal. She did have a child eventually.
