I never had a weight problem until I "decided" I was fat at about 115 many years ago. Weeks of eating under 1000 calories a day and all I got to show for it was a cr*p metabolism and a weight problem. You asked for help - everybody's telling you the same thing. You are (no offence) too heavy to be eating only 1000 calories a day. Your body is going to hang onto your fat until you persuade it (by eating) that it doesn't have to worry about whether there's enough fuel coming.

I just don't understand the "starvation mode" logic - I mean, that mode can't last forever - can it? There has to become a point where your body is responsive and accustomed to being fed less. Not that I WANT that. I'd love to up my calories to 1200. It's just scary to me, I feel like I've cheated whenever I go above 1k. I think the pound I gained that has stuck with me is really doing a number on my dieting psyche.

I have probably been in that mode for 3 yrs. The best way to describe it is if you drop to low your body will hold on to everything it can get. Plus your metabolism slows down, you have no energy, no appetite etc. I regret allowing myself to slip into that state. And I am gonna try very hard to never slip into that state again.

Listen, darlin', that 1 pound is nothing to worry about. My weight can fluctuate 2-3 pounds just with water! So give it a try--I'm not saying go nuts here, I'm saying that you could go up above 1000 and try it for awhile. See what happens! Try 1200 and do it for 2 weeks!

The problem is, if you eat to little, your metabolism starts to slow down. That is just the opposite of what you want! You want your metabolism to burn fat! Exercise can help boost metabolism, but only if you're putting a bit of fuel in there.

If after 2 weeks at 1200, you are gaining, then you can try something else. Think of it as an experiment.

Good luck!

Which is why it would serve you to seek out counseling and professional nutritional guidance from a doctor, dietitian or nutritionist who is able to work with disordered eaters.
