I just know my ds wouldn't eat them..and in another board I go to (non weight loss related) the mom once beefed that she was in charge of snack one day at preschool and brought grapefruit juice and green pepper slices for the entire class. Of course no one ate it (except her kid) and the other moms complained that their kid was starving and she should have brought something more "appropraite" or kid-friendly i guess.. she was irate..thats why that combo kind of stuck out at me

In my experience, most preschoolers don't have the well-developed palate necessary to appreciate bitter and pungent foods, so I am with you on this one!
Honestly, I would have made and brought something like whole grain banana mini muffins and almond milk or fruit cups for preschoolers, myself! Actually, that is pretty much what I make for my daughter's eighth grade class too, something sweet and still nutritious or something like hummus, baked pita chips and carrots. The kids LOVE it when I have snack duty
