It varies soooo much. Body type, how heavy you are to begin and how your clothing fits you right now just to mention few factors.
When I first started my venture I'd say it took almost 25 lbs or so. Now that I am smaller, probably 10 lbs or so. I was dropping dress sizes so quickly at one point I couldn't keep up. I started at a 26/28 and am now down to a 6.
Just stick with your good eating and exercise plan and the weight WILL come off and those dress sizes will drop.
It will really vary from person to person. Depends on body shape, how much you have to lose to begin with, and we all know women’s clothing sizes are no where near standard and don’t make a lick of sense most of the time. It took me about 6 months to drop 30 lbs, went from a 16 to a 14. Might have been almost 2 sizes since I probably should have been wearing 18 at some point but was just in denial. One year later, still wearing that 14.
Let's see...it's kinda hard for me to say because i really haven't bought that many new outfits yet.
When i weighed 196 I should have been in a Misses 18 but was sucking it into my 16's. When I lost 25 pounds to 170 I bought a pair of Misses 14 dress pants. Now that I have dropped another 11 pounds, I can feel wiggle room in my 14's but am waiting a little longer before I go out and buy a pair of Misses 12's. I could probably pull my dress pants down without unzipping them if I tried, but I dont' have the money to buy a new pair of pants and since these aren't falling off on their own...I can wait. But i do walk around pulling them back up to my waist because they like to slide down to my hips.
The answers are going to be specific for individuals. I started in July 2004 at 200 lbs, wearing a tight size 18. I was definitely a loose size 16 by early September, weighing about 165 lbs. So, for me...it took about 2 months and 30 lbs to go from a tight size 18 to a loose size 16.
Mama....they have to be at least fitting looser than they were to have lost 30 pounds!! I can still wear my 16's but they are baggy on me and I really don't like to wear them unless i have to.

I just tried on some of my 18's and some of them are quite loose, and I am fitting into some of my 'smaller' 18's well now, which is nice.. but I am still an 18, lol! I have very large hips, so it's hard for me to move sizes . I probably should have been in a 20 when I was 27 lbs heavier, so I'll just tell myself that.. lol.
I tried on my 16 jeans and there is absolutely no way that I am anywhere near fitting in them.. they are skin tight on my thighs and about 4 inches from coming anywhere near to buttoning. Blech. I have really been working on my food intake so far and feel confident in it now, and I really need to add in gym time at least a few times a week... walking is out because it's 500 degrees.

I can't really give a time frame because sometimes I lose fast, sometimes slow, sometimes not at all (like right now, I've been stuck at 201 for almost 3 weeks!) But for me it takes about 15 pounds lost to squeeze into the next size down and 20 pounds lost to fit nice and comfortable in the next size down.
I lost a PANT size very quickly, I think I am down several, I still have yet to lose a DRESS size because my limiting factor hasnt changed much, ok maybe I am down 1 dress size, but because I am so disproportionate I never wear dresses .
For awhile every 7-8 lbs was giving me a pant size, but I have been in the same size now for probably 10 lbs.
It took me forever it seemed. I have like no hips or bum and so when I lost weight, I still wore the same size for a long time, the waist seemed to still fit and the hips and legs were all baggy. It looked ridiculous.
