Boy, I don't know about the 6 month thing!
My 19 yr old son is a junk food junky right now and he has this neon bag of cheetos that has been calling my name for 3 days.
I'm being strong but this Sunday?
I truly hope that he has eaten them all by then or he might have to fight me off with a stick!
Cheetos and Coke was what I lived on my senior year of High School when my weight problems 1st started.

I don't think I've even seen a cheeto for about a year, so just looking at the bag is killing me, lol!

That is too funny - my senior year was a Coke and a Hostess Fruit Pie.

No, no..you misunderstand me!

I've had anorexia and then binge eating disorder, and it might SEEM like "anything legal" makes you fat...but I mean, just not forbidding any foods which make them more attractive, so you binge..

I didn't explain enough, I guess. I was more talking about getting in tune with your emotions etc so you do only end up (more or less!) eating for just..well, food/energy purposes..THEN you can make everything legal I guess, with no consequences.

Was just trying to stick up for Intuitive Eating, which I know works. For me, anyway...diets with rules, kinda toxic.

I think I get what you're saying, Cousin--making something "off limits" can cause one to want it all the more. Yes?

Everyone's situation is different. I've never been anorexic or been a binge eater--just a history of steady overeating of fattening foods, without being conscious of the consequences... or not caring... being in denial about cause and effect.

Intuitive eating does work for some folks. Me, I need limits.

When I restrict my food, really nothing is off limits unless I want it to be. I want to eat healthier, so I choose healthier foods. I want to lose weight, so I choose lower calorie foods. I will happily take the restrictions if they make sense and help me lose weight

I ate for many years without stuff being off limits or thought of as bad and I ate a lot. I even binged.

I am better in control of my food today than I have ever been.

I know some people don't like the thought of "I'll never have this again" but there are certain things that I will never have again. I'll never have fried foods again. The real reason is because I have gall stones and if I have fried foods, then I have a chance of aggravating my gall bladder and causing pain. It is a medical condition that prevents me from eating something.

Isn't obesity a medical condition as well? I know people who can't eat certain types of foods because of their medical conditions. It is perfectly normal to say "I can't have that" because of some medical condition but people get touchy if you try to say "I can't have that" due to a propensity for obesity.

So I say I can't have large amounts of calorie laden foods especially those that are full of sugar. I have insulin sensitivities (another medical condition) that would certainly make me want to crave more sugar. I can have small amounts if I want though at certain times. Right now, I'm not eating sugary/high carb things at all and I'm not eating high fat items at all either but that is because my goals outweigh my needs to eat those things

Oh yeah and I've strayed off topic...

I really appreciate seeing all the sides to this conversation. I think I take things too personal sometimes.... okay..like ALL the time..

My extra-sensitivity actually comes from being overweight all my life....weird huh? At least I'll still be sensitive to people when I'm not overweight.

I like what a couple people said about the losing weight being the treat. That is so true and that's where my mindframe should be. What an awesome treat to see at the weekly weigh-in your progress from eating right and exercising.

I was so excited when I went to my brothers (they're gone for a week and I'm staying at their place) and I turned on the t.v. and they have free on-demand exercising shows. So I did the walking with Leslie or whatever. I'm psyched that I don't necessarily have to leave the house to get a work-out...I'm gonna try ALL of them this week!!!

Again everyone...sorry for getting bent-out-of-shape. It's good to see how determined ya'll are.

Hmm,
I'm a little different. "Treats" for me come in the shape of clothing and books. But I was reading some of your comments about treats as in foods and it's wierd because I don't mind working in a cheesecake into my day, or a piece of pizza I don't see it as a treat because I'm trying to change my brain and hunger processes. I'm trying to train myself to know that I can eat those foods but in moderation... so by giving myself moderate portions I am in control. I became overweight because of portion control rather than cravings and wantings so i guess it works for me this way because I didn't really have a problem with certain foods.

I'm glad you enjoyed your ice cream and congratz on doing so well!

I tend to incorporate my "treat" foods into my diet within moderation, if I really want to eat something then I have to calculate what I can substitute it for. I think everyone has their own style of weight loss and personally I wouldn't change mine because it's what suits me. You obviously felt you deserved your ice cream so you shouldn't feel guilt. But personally, sometimes I feel like it's all too ironic to be treating my weight loss with something that could potentially hinder it... I like buying clothes and stuff that compliments my new lifestyle... This month I'm considering buying a heart rate monitor LOL!!! (it's just funny to say that when 2 months ago I was the laziest person ever!)
keep goin girl x

I think a heart rate monitor is great! They really get you motivated and help you to see how you're progressing. I love my pedometer because then I can see my mileage instead of just looking at it as time..

I plan on getting a heart rate monitor soon as well.

I usually take some cake e.g black forest...yummieee. But the thing is I don't over do it, even though I workout 3-4 times a week. This reward thing is kinda tricky, because folks sometimes "over reward" themselves, and it extends further to folks now using it after some kind of disappointment. Thats where it gets alittle bit tricky.
Guard that mind with all your strength!
