If you go to your drugstore, you can find something called Silicone Barrier Cream (this is its generic name, and is sold as such, making it really, really inexpensive). It comes in a tube, like ointment, and you use it where you need it. I think it is with the baby supplies (prevents diaper rash!), but my hubby, who is a runner (long distance, too!), swears by it. Lots of serious runners use it for their underarm areas, feet, bums, and thighs. ( I never knew you could get chapping between your bum cheeks, but apparently it is true...) I've tried it and it is CHEAP and REALLY EFFECTIVE and SOOTHING, too, especially if your skin is a bit irritated.

It's usually the jeans from JC Penney in the juniors department...so brands like Arizona, LEI, and such. Maybe I should start buying better quality, LOL. I just tend to buy the cheapest.

I have never worn LEI, but I bought a pair for my daughter-the material in them is cheap...but the price of them sure wasn't.

$30 for a pair of jeans for an EIGHT year old. I only bought them because she wears "slim" instead of regular or plus, and cute jeans are hard to find in her size-they are all girls regular and girls plus size.

The material was pretty thin, compared to jeans that I have bought her from Old Navy and Gap.

I don't have the money to be buying new jeans every month...

ok the Nacho Libre quote has me rollin over here - thanks!

and for your jeans - remember to turn them inside out when you wash them! it will make them fall apart slower and also retain their color better. then line dry - putting them in the dryer both shrinks and causes wear (especially if they have a lil spandex in them).

Used to have this problem myself. Now I make sure I buy workout pants that are mostly spandex. If they are tight around the thigh/crotch area it will help, it did for me at least!

I wear spanx bike shorts type things under skirts ALWAYS. they do have a summer weight one and I love them!

As for exercise cloths I just bought a great pair of tummy control petite! from Lands end. LOVE THEM, they fit so well and are not too long. I might have to take them to the taylor for a Key pocket/dog treat pocket for walking the dog

On the salt water + thigh rubbing = pain thing - happened once, HATED IT.

For working out it's an issue. I don't wear spandex or do ointment or anything - I just wear longer shorts so that they don't ride up when I run. I haven't had a problem since I've done that.

My thighs have rubbed since I was really young. I remember when I discovered that other, normal sized people didn't have that problem. It was on a TV show when a character got fat and complained about his thighs rubbing together. I was like, other people's legs don't do that???

Happily, above my knees there is now almost a cm wide gap when I stand. The top still rubs a lot, though. Hopefully that'll go away eventually.

Default old-fashioned chafing belt

I have from my mom (big thighs are genetic!) an old-fashioned chafing belt, which is basically a rectangle of silky material with elastic straps that go around your legs and waist. It's great for wearing under dresses and skirts, especially in the summer (sweaty) time. I'd like to buy a new one, but can't find one anywhere on the web -- in fact my searching led me to this forum. Has anyone heard of such a thing, used one, knows where to buy one?
