I'm the same with aspartame. I don't think it causes me to have any cravings or hinders weight loss. But I DO think I'm sensitive to sucralose. Everyone is different. I'm hoping sucralose doesn't sneak into EVERYTHING sugar free or replace the aspartame.
sweetners are neurotoxins. they deplete the myelin sheath on your nerves. they cause migrains and even mild neuropathy. they are pro-inflamitory and cause immune responses the same way that allergins do. and by pro inflamitory i mean, tissue, organs brain, endosteinum that lines your blood vessels, everything. that would explain it's ties to autism. also, they link it to MS cases that happen in adults. stevia and xlitol are the safer alternetives, and i beleive they make a diet soda sweetened with stevia now.

Do you have references for any of these statements?
I'm not a doc. But when I drink or eat anything with splenda or aspartame in it I get a headache. So I stay away from all artificial sweetners and sugar unless it is in fruit naturally.
Yes please! I've not seen anything conclusive, certainly not published reviewed journals. I've seen some studies that in sensitive folks with allergies, aspartame can mimic the symptoms of MS, but not any actual cause/effect studies. If you have them available I'd love to see them.
Also, if you have anything specific regardling sucralose, I'd love to see it - most of the statements you made seem to be primarily linked to aspartame in the brief internet research i just did, so i'm wondering if there is anything out there on sucralose specifically.
Yeah - I take very little stock in just going with what professors say to us. If only because I had a professor in undergrad who was convinced that the only way to treat autism, ADHD, and other disorders affecting the brain was using the Native American medicine wheel. Not that the medicine wheel should be considered an option, but that it was the ONLY viable option. She had a textbook, found somewhere, that supported her viewpoint, which solidified my thinking that anything a professor or textbook said needed to be backed up with scientific studies.
Not that your professor is a crackpot like her! Just explaining why I am so study-focused...

Reason: Called autism a psychological disease - its not. Oops!
I don't like the taste of artificial sweetners, and as I'm not too fond of chemicals either, I usually don't have any.
I do use a natural sweetner, I believe is fructose, or some other natural sugar extracted from fruits. It does contains calories, but only 8 for a teaspoon. and as it is really sweet you only need like half of what you would usually add of sugar.
I use it to make lemonade, tea, over strawberries sometimes. It does have subtle taste if you taste it alone, but you'll never notice it in other foods. I once even baked some sugar cookies with it and they were really good and it took off almost all the calories from sugar.

Me, too. Artificial sweeteners give me both headache and stomach ache. I guess it is an allergic reaction. And I avoid using them.
What I have found is that whenever I eat sugar added food, I will want more. So to wean myself off refined sugar, I now eat fruits when I crave sweets and it has worked well.
lol at mandalinn...i was going to go on a rant like you last night to correct the pool/chlorine comment....but i decided to refrain since last time i ranted about something...someone took it way too personal. But it made me chuckle...at least i'm not the only chemistry person here (well not a degree in one...but had several classes of gen chem organic and biochem for vet school). Thank you for doing what i wanted to do.
As for sugar...i only use it in my coffee and like Ready2loose stated, i use sugar in the raw...first off i LOVE the taste...there really is a difference.
But each will try/find what works for them. I do suggested if cravings and or problems w/ wt loss are becoming an issue...give yourself a few weeks without and see if your body works better without.
Just my .02 on the whole thing as far as the whole "PROVE IT!"... " I WILL!" Going on.. I dont care WHAT any text book, professor, or even study that is done says .. there is ALWAYS going to be evidence to prove it wrong ALWAYS.
You have to chose your battles, to each his own. Personally I prefer my food as nature intended, which is the way that I eat for the most part and the native american medicene will sounds more appealing to me than any drug that our wonderful FDA has approved.. and done "studies" on, which I dont believe those either. JMO.
GatorGal! - I am on my way to Savannah tonight.. making my way down to River St. this weekend.. yay! How about you?
