I've had those days. From what I can tell, they usually coincide with days I'm either bored or tired. I just try to eat as healthy as I can, even though I'm consuming mass quantities of it. LOL
Water fills you up, and the reduced carbs lowers sugar in your bloodstream which can trigger hunger pangs
Thanks for that thought, Booklover. I always wondered why I was less hungry when I cut back on sweets and starches.
I am SO hungry today. It's only 11:00 AM and I have already eaten:
Apple
Oatmeal w/ yogurt
Cottage cheese w/ salsa
Which doesn't sound that bad, but usually ONE of the above would be enough to get me through until noon! And I am STILL hungry! I am afraid today is going to turn into a binge-on-healthy-food day, just because I am so so hungry.
And I didn't even get in my pre-work gym visit because the roads here are so bad. So it's not like I'm starving b/c I've burned up a bunch of calories already.
I find that if I am REALLY hungry after having tried the boredom, exercise, water, stringcheese mini fixes, then I need to eat. If I dont the body rebels.
I'm sitting here with my tummy rumbling with hunger sounds and I'm hoping that I'll make it to lunch (50 minutes to go) without having to break into the fridge for my snack....okay, I know it's okay to have a snack, but I was hoping to make use the snack as my lunch dessert. We'll see if I make it.
Meanwhile, Saturday and Sunday saw the scale at 1 pound down. Today it's back up.....I'll leave my ticker alone until tomorrow. I'm hoping that today's weight is just a fluke!
Every week I have at least one day where my stomach will just NOT stop growling and the 1500 cals I usually get just don't seem like enough. Those days are the hardest I usually end up eating more than I should then.
Well, it is 5 p.m. and I am still starving. . .and have eaten almost the number of calories that I normally eat in a whole day, and all good clean foods. . .
I'm afraid I am setting myself up for a fall this evening.
I don't know what's wrong with me. I am just SO HUNGRY.
Definitely have had those days. Mine was yesterday! I usually just eat a lean pocket and I'm good for most of the day until dinner! But oh no! Not yesterday I ended up eating a lean pocket and a icecream cone! Thank God today was different, I hate those days!
A few months ago there was an article in a magazine that read for HUNGRY WOMEN. The inspirational story was of a woman who found WW but none of their plans worked for her. She was always hungry- she wasn't eating bad foods, but just too damn much of everything. Her leader sat down with her and they went through many plans until one sounds- iffy... but right. The woman put research into and found case studies done in universities in both California and Florida. She found that balanced meals are more important than they seem. She called this plan the "magic combo plan." Here is how it works (reading the article as I type). PROTEIN, Good CARBS, a little fat, FIBER = Protein prevents hunger inducing blood sugar spikes and increases levels of a metabolism boosting amino acid called leucine, and a little fat and carbs keep us from feeling deprived, fiber moves things along in your body and is great for the heart and such.
I was so inspired by this article and the way of balanced thinking that I ripped it out of the magazine and posted it on the fridge. Like promised I, Hungry Britt (taco bell joke), felt full. Let me list a couple of examples of the meals in the article so that it will make more sense.
Breakfast (choose meal daily) -
1 1/2 cup of Kashi cereal, 1 cup fat free milky, and 1 banana
***
2 scrambled Eggs, 1 lite English muffin, 2 veggie sausage links, 1 cup blue berries
***
1 WW chocolate muffin, 1 tbs peanut butter, 1 cup sliced strawberries
LUNCH (choose one mean daily)-
3 cups mixed salad, 4 oz. grilled chicken, 1/3 cup chickpeas, chopped pepper, scallion and fat free cheese, 1 tbs. lite dressing.
****
1 sushi roll (6 pcs), 2 cups steamed snow peas, 1/2 tsp sesame oil, 1 orange
***
6" low-fat subway sandwich (xtra veggies!!), 1 bag baked chips, 1 pear
DINNER (choose one meal daily)-
1 morning star farms black bean burger, 1 slice low fat cheese, 1 lite English muffin, 2 cups bell pepper rings, 3 tbs. lite dressing.
***
2 links low-fat turkey or chick sausage, 2 whole grain buns, 2 cups green beans, 2 tbs olive oil
***
4 oz chicken or fish, 1 cup cooked whole wheat pasta, 2 cups grilled vegetables, 2 tsp. olive oil
SNACKS
1 piece fruit, 1 tsp peanut butter (or) string cheese
***
1/2 cup cooked oatmeal, 1 tbs (of each) dried fruit and nuts.
***
10 baby carrots, 1/4 cup hummus
***
1 cup low fat flavored yogurt, 1.2 cup blue berries
Those are good examples and once you get the hang of it you can apply the combos with other foods you like and really- you get full. On days that I am too much of a whinny brat to make an effort I eat a larger breakfast and that helps me make it through the day. My breakfasts look like: 1 cup cereal (fiber first, Kashi, Great Start, or mix), 1 cup fat-free milk, 1 banana, 1 orange, maybe piece of 20 grain toast with organic butter substitute. It sounds like a lot, but I'm loosing weight and I feel full. Maybe you could say- having a little bit of a lot? Stay away from packaged things like- Breakfast bars, snack packs, meal replacement cookies- they just aren't the same as having a balanced meal and you will suffer for it later.
I also know that hunger can be confused with dehydration- aim for 2 liters of water. Obsessing with hunger can make you hungry- or think you are. Try knitting, or sketching, or walking a short distance before hand. Call someone who understands your dilemma and talk it out, or call someone and talk about something! anything! other than grub.
o.0 This post is long enough, I am sure you could find more information on the strategy online so you can get the hang of it and make your own decisions. ^-^ Good luck.
I get those hungry days, too. Sometimes I think that with all the cutting back on calories or (points as we say with Weight Watchers), maybe it's just something my body is missing. I also notice that when I don't get enough sleep I feel hungrier
Yes, thank God Ben Ownby and Shawn Hornbeck are back at home. I was out Friday evening and listening to my radio in the car when I heard the news. I wondered if I heard it wrong, but I didn't. Shawn had been missing for over four years. That truly is a miracle that they were both found safe.
