Default You have an internal scale

I found this very interesting. It says basically that they theorize that your lower extremity has an internal "scale" that measures you. If it detects that you weigh say, 160 lbs, it sets your hunger accordingly with hormones like leptin.

If however, you actually weigh 200 lbs, but sit or lie down for 80% of your day... your internal scale reads much less than 200 lbs. And thus it sets your hunger and metabolism accordingly.

So the theory is that you need to stand for much longer periods per day (or add weight to your body) to give your body the message to decrease hunger and increase metabolism. In the study they added weight to mice and found that mice ate less to maintain the status quo.
