Default So glad to see this site!

I've been TRYING to be a vegetarian for about a month now. I am so disgusted with meat and the only meat I have eaten in the last month was a few little cubes of chicken that came in my chicken strombolli sandwich.

I actually posted on another board on this site looking for other vegetarians. I've only been browsing for a few minutes and have learned a whole ton. I never knew about freezing the tofu. I use tofu every morning in a shake. I put some fruit, milk, tofu and icecubes in the blender, blend until smooth and drink. My 14 month old son loves it too!!

Does anyon have a vegetarian baby? What foods are essential for him to have since he doens't eat meat?

Angela

I'd be very careful about having a vegetarian baby. How old is the baby?

Do you get quorn in canada? If so I'd try that its tons nicer than tofu but does contain eggs.

I live on Linda McCartney and quorn I'm not too keen on tofu. I use my blender a lot, I make fruit drinks for breakfast with a banana base. I eat porridge too but have it with soya milk its really really good.
There are a few really nice chocolate drinks you can make with tofu but as I said I'm not too keen.

A friend of mine was raised as a vegetarian but if you are thinking about it you should consult with your pediatrician first to make sure it is okay and to get information on what your child's nutritional needs are.

I have a vegetarian baby (10 months), a 2 yo and a mostly vegetarian 5 yo (he eats chicken nuggets sometimes at restaurants, we use bocca chik'n nuggets at home, and hasn't wanted to try any other meat he's been offered).

You need to make sure that you ds has other sources of B12, B6, iron, and protein. If he eats a variety of foods, including dairy, eggs, legumes, whole grains, vegetables and fruits, all of them should be taken care of though. I do give my older kids a multivitamin some days because, being kids, they don't always eat a well balanced diet. My baby is still breastfed in addition to solid foods, so I worry less about her nutrition.

Austin was breastfed until 10 months. Then he went to homo milk. He drinks about 20 oz of homo milk a day. I try to give him eggs everyday but i doesn't happen because he's not TOO fond of eggs. He gets veggies for dinner and fruit for breakfast, grains at 2 meals.

Does anyone know of a link for a food chart for a baby?
