I forgot jicama also! Is there really anything you can't put on a salad?

I like spinach or romaine, shredded carrots, red onions, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded beets, chick peas, red pepper flakes, snow peas or sugar snap peas, and oil and vinegar.

heyy!! I absolutely love salad haha. Those are awesome ideas guys! i'm gonna have to try them out! Here's one of my own:

Lately i've been eating this salad i threw together. I put about 1 1/2 to 2 cups mixed greens in a bowl. Then i add about a 1/2 of a 1/3 cup dried cranberries (i usually get them sweetened and i found some that are pretty low cal 1/3 cup is only 130 calories but i end up only using 1/2 the serving because 1/3 turns out to be quite a lot lol, i also don't really remember the name of the brand right now lol but i'll find out if you want to know =) After that i add about 2 tablespoons sliced almonds (a great brand is sunkist almond accents because its only 80 calories per serving). Finally i add 2 tablespoons of this blue cheese vinaigrette to top it off (i buy the brand Marie's). It sounds really strange with the whole blue cheese cranberries combination but hey if you're adventurous give it a try it tastes awesome!!

I don't think so.

I'm not sure I've ever made the same salad twice.

I also like cold leftover vegetables (broccoli, brussels sprouts, whatever you have)
I like the combination of hot meat (leftover lean pork, chicken, steak) on salad with cheese - melts the cheese a little.
Taco salad
Salads with a whole grain as a base - brown rice salads with veggies and dressing; whole wheat pasta salad with tuna, onions, celery, mayo, celery seeds; whole wheat pasta salad with diced veggies and italian dressing; tabouli salad with veggies & dressing
Salads with multiple kinds of canned beans (green, wax, french), canned beans (kidney, black turtle, white northern), corn, green peppers, onions, italian dressing
Hot stir fry on spinach
Cabbage - traditional coleslaw, cabbage used in place of lettuce or with lettuce, shredded with other dressings on it,
carrot salad with raisins
Raw kohlrabi grated with carrots with mayo and lemon juice
Wedged tomatoes, feta, kahlamata olives, onions & green peppers (Villager Salad)
Shrimp, onions, green peppers & dressing
Ham, mustard, mayo, onion, pickles all run through a food processor.
Tuna salad in a tomato, in a pepper half, in a scooped out cucumber half (long way)
Baked sweet potato chilled and cubed added to a green salad (lettuce and raw veggies)
Cooked diced cauliflower, chilled and dressed the same as your favorite potato salad
Salad nicoise - Boiled potatoes (Substitute cold steamed caulflower), hard boiled egg, steamed & chilled whole green beans, tomatoes, black or kahlamata olives, capers & tuna (plain canned tuna, seared ahi) with a vinaigrette dressing
Egg salad
Chicken salad
Fruit salad
Finger salad (no lettuce, everything cut up large enough to pick up with your fingers)
Chopped salad - any lettuce based salad mixed up and chopped up on the cutting board before going into the serving bowl.
Canned pear (in natural juice of course) with cottage cheese

Another thing that can really change up a salad is the same salad with a different dressing. Or the same basic salad with different goodies (different kinds of olives, different dried fruit, different fresh fruit, different cheese, slice of pickled beet)

I just found out some bacon bits or baco'bits are vegan-vegetarian friendly! I love those crunchy little things.

I heard about that too.
I see a lot made from soy, but then I get nervous when it says "natural flavors" lol

I add cold leftover cooked veggies to the usual greens (which vary weekly) and whatever other veggies I feel like having. Throw in some nuts and seeds and different types of beans (I've been using cannellini and black eyed peas a lot lately). Changing the dressings helps too.

Salads are my veggie buffet in a bowl.

toasted slivered almonds
hard boiled egg
sunflower seeds
toasted sesame seeds
guacamole for dressing
salsa for dressing
fake crab
tuna
teriaki oysters
garlic chicken (bake chicken breast and place in closed container in fridge with chunks of fresh garlic overnight to absorb the flavor)

this is what i usually do - i'll post a normal salad and a not so normal salad!

normal: romaine, pepperoncinis, shredded mozzarella, kidney beans, garbanzo beans, chopped hard boiled egg, grape tomatoes, red onion.

not so normal: in a big bowl i put some shredded romaine. then i head up a can of veg refried beans. i add that to the salad and add some salsa and sour cream and moosh it up. weird? yes. tasty? you bet!

About 95% of the time, I'm having salad for lunch. Here are some variations:

1) Sort of a Mexican salad: dollops of salsa, sliced avocado, black beans

2) Fruit salad: Red grapes, walnuts or almonds, dried cranberries

3) Vegetable salad: Steamed asparagus, walnuts or almonds, homemade dressing with dijon mustard in it

4) Variation vegetable salad: Veggies grilled on my little Foreman grill, such as red & green bell peppers, zucchini & yellow squash, eggplant

5) Tofu marinated & baked, sometimes with edamame, on top of the usual greens & cut-up veggies

6) Dollops of hummus on top the salad, no dressing

7) Sort of a nicoise salad, with chunks of canned tuna, red onions, black olives, steamed green beans, hard-boiled egg whites, all on top of the usual greens

8) Bacon & egg salad, which involves cooking turkey bacon ahead of time & adding hardboiled egg whites, and I prefer this on top of spinach (I just realized this is vegetarian board -- sorry -- but I have also used the fake bacon strips, weirdly bicolored as they are, and they've been fine)

9) Roasted or marinated chickpeas & roasted eggplant on top of greens, sort of Middle Eastern

10) Make black bean, corn & mango salsa, then top on greens

I'm always looking for new ideas. Basically, I think anything you can slap on top of bread & call a sandwich, you can also dump on top of salad & eat with a daub of dressing.
