I am pretty close to a vegetarian diet the only meat I really eat is fish but I cut back due the the readings I have found on the mercury and stuff, today.. and its happened a few times before, when I bend over and stand back up, I will see "stars" alot of stars, I dont get light headed, or feel like I will pass out, but I do sometimes get nauseous. What vitamin or trace mineral could I be missing to cause this?
I'm no expert but sounds more like a blood sugar issue to me? Have you changed the way you eat since this started? Are you getting enough food? Eating frequently enough?
I have changed my habits a bit, I have been eatting more "clean". I cant be sure that Ive been eatting enough because eatting fruits and veggies throughout the day are very filling, and Im not counting the calories, because I dont measure really, I just eat until I am satisfied and then go on about my business. But I cut out the trail mix, veggie burgers, cut my coffee from 4 cups to 2 cups. Limited my grains to once or twice a day because most arent "clean" well the ones I can afford. Its pretty much been a bean, veggie, and fruit kick. Which Im happy with but I know I shouldnt be seeing stars, thats not normal by any stretch of the imagination
No, definitely not normal! Might it be the difference in your coffee intake? I know I feel off on days I don't get my usual caffeine kick. I'm not saying cutting back is bad, just that it may take your body a little time to adjust. Also, maybe try tracking your food on fitday.com or some similar site, that would tell you if you’re somehow grossly under eating or have an imbalance in your diet. I would suggest getting some whole grains in at least in two of your daily meals, they take a little bit of time to prepare but brown rice, barley, steel cut oats, millet and quinoa are all full of fiber, protein and nutrients your body needs and are pretty inexpensive. If you're going to be going with a vegan diet for an extended period you may want to make sure you're getting enough B-vitamins (supplements or using nutritional yeast in your cooking) and Omega-3 (supplements or flax seeds or walnuts). Try adding a serving of nuts to your day. I would be worried if this continues for long though, might want to go see the doc.
Its been about 9 - 10 days now since I have been doing this. At first it was headaches all the time, which I blamed that on the coffee, and now the stars thing. For lunch I ate a whole can of black beans, I washed them because they are canned and thats my attempt at getting rid of some of the salt. I added a little bit of cheese and some onion ( im not ready for vegan yet, Im trying the vegetarian diet, which for me isnt much of a transistion) Maybe this will help, for breakfast I had about 2/3 cup (measured dry) of oatmeal with an apple, vanilla and a tsp of raw sugar and cinnamon. I should definitely be good on calories today after eatting a whole can of black beans lol. I didnt put alot of cheese but I called it 100 cals of cheese so between the oatmeal, apple, black beans and cheese, I am at roughly 930 cals today, which is good because I work out, and I wait tables for a living so I am all over the place, tonight I am taking apples and yogurt to work to snack on because by the end of the night I am so hungry and then when I get home, I eat some veggies and get full really fast off almost no calories. Eating clean, and vegetarian, you really have to work to get calories, so.. yeah nuts and beans are the way to help.. i believe.
Fruit has a high Glycemic Index and will cause insulin spikes which affects your blood sugar levels so you really should try to limit your fruits, either that or eat fruits that aren't quite so high in sugar, such as blueberries.

You should probably add some protein into your diet in the form of beans or nuts since you're not eating meats.
It would also be a good idea to have your blood sugar checked especially if anyone in your family has diabetes, hypo or hyper glycemia.
Hope this helps some.
well I wasnt necessarily trying to self diagnose, but its funny that you say that Suzanne because my mom has really low blood pressure, and mine is usually normal, sodium is a big thing that i have cut back on, all I know is after I ate the black beans I was fine. No more stars today. I just thought maybe someone her had experienced it before
Also I am trying my best to stay away from calorie counting, I tend to obess when I count cals, and its just not healthy for me mentally. Im just going to eat good for me food, when I am hungry and stop when I am not. For me, thats better. I cant play the numbers game again because I end up restricting, then bingeing ugh, besides, counting cals makes me think that all calories are created equal, when in fact.. they arent.
