Default New veggie chick!

Hello All!

I've been a member for some months now and after trying many (did I say many? I meant tons.) diets, i decided to step back and take a good look about what i was eating. I decided to turn vegetarian a month ago. Not because it's another diet but because i wanted to become healthier and also i'm an avid animal lover.

I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian.

I still eat dairy products and consume eggs. I don't really drink milk and i rarely ever use it in any recipes anymore, but i eat cheese (without rennet) and organic yogourt. The eggs are free-range.

My problem thought, even if i lost weight, is that i'm still overeating sometimes and this really puts a stop to my weight loss. I've been at 240 for the past month and the scale won't budge. I know it's because i eat to much, even if it's healthy food.

My question is, how do you get past all that overeating and binging?

I work out 3 to 4 times a week and i also walk. Exercise is never the problem, but i eat too much. Anybody going trought this also?

Welcome ShyChick,

I'm not officially vegetarian but I try to eat a vegan diet. Even though for years, I've been eating "healthy" foods, I still find myself overeating them. Basically, in order to lose weight, I just have to work hard on my portion control and overall eating.

Congradulations on your big weight loss.

I find that I overeat when i'm bored and lonely. I'm trying to find things to do when i'm alone so that i don't keep eating everything there is in the house. The truth is i have a weird work schedule. Me and my lovely boyfriend don't have the same work schedule and my days off are mostly during the week, when everyone i know is at work. And I work on the weekends when everyone I know is off of work. So, i'm trying hard to get some kind of hobby to keep myself busy and to not overeat so much when i'm alone.

Easier said than done...but hopefully i'll find some great support here.

Maybe try taking a walk if you are bored or lonely? How about reading or going to the library and perusing?

I think it'd be nice to have days off when everyone is working since you could do things without worrying too much about crowds but maybe that is just me

One of my growing vices is fruit. I know its good for you but still I think I am eating too much of it. I often also have trouble with peanut butter but right now I'm down to 1 peanut butter sandwich per day. If it starts creeping up, then I'd cut back on peanut butter.

I'm not exactly a fruit lover, but I do try to get in 4 small pieces a day. About the overeating, though, I had serious issues with that before and when I first got to college. I went through an entire pack of string cheese in 3 days! (BTW, I am an avid cheese and pasta lover. Together, I am not responsible for my actions.)

For the first like 2, maybe 3 weeks, I was planning out everything I was going to eat for the week and then making the grocery list and only buying what I was going to eat. Then again, I have a tiny fridge. But it helped because I was putting boundaries on myself, but its not like someone else was telling me to eat. I told myself what to eat, so I could eat stuff I liked. I don't know if that will help you, but it certainly worked for me.

Welcome! It's great to have another vegetarian here (there aren't many!). I think that you will find many of your concerns are shared by others (vegetarian or not). I am vegan and eat a very balanced, nutrient rich diet. I just eat too much and move too little!!!

I am too busy to be bored but I understand lonely. PM me anytime!

Thanks for your inputs everybody.

Nelie : Actually it is nice to have days off when everyone is at work, i usually don't have a problem with it, but lately i'm finding myself being lonley more than usual. I'll try to work on that.

Soulbliss : Thanks ! I will surely PM you if i feel like talking, and also don't hesitate to do the same when you're lonely at night. It will be lovely to have somoene to talk too in times like these.

Gaia : It sure helps to plan everything ahead of time, that's what i normally do and i try to keep all the bad stuff out of the house, but i find myself binging on good things. Weird !

I think overeating is something most of us trying to lose weight are going trought. It is tough.

Thanks everyone.

Gaia - I am also a cheese lover... it is one reason that I try to follow a vegan diet If I allowed myself cheese then well.... I used to binge on cheese and bread and ice cream. It certainly wasn't meat that made me fat.
