That does sound good, right up my alley. When I read 'basil' it reminded me how much I love that stuff fresh. We put it in a container of water on the counter when we bring it home and I swear every time I pass by I have bury my whole face in there and inhale! The husband and I used to love to eat frsh mozzarella on crusty bread with tomatos, fresh basil, good olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sea salt and cracked pepper. Usually with a bottle of Penfolds or something. I'm big on Australian red wine, it's my favorite. I tried it several days ago with the cheese omitted and it's just as yummy and fun as ever. (I just have to get my husband to take it easier on the oil...he seems to think it's calorie free just because it's good for you.)

I'm actually all the way down in san Diego. Santa Cruz eh? Your up there with the sharks! I would flip if my husband tried to surf there! Ha ha
What is...PCOS? Whas that what you said? You sound like you've come to an end/begining point. Those are such powerful times. When you get fed up and just DO something. Go for it!
What is this that your Dr has diagnosed?

I wish I was up in Santa Cruz. right now I live in Dener. It's a real meat and potatoes kind of place. Vegans are so many back home. PCOS is the #1 cause for infertilety. It's caused by an inbalance of hormons. My overies have many cystses on them. and I don't ovulate corectly. One of the things is that it makes me insuline resistant. so I figure I'll have a beard, no baby and no soda or chocolate. Life is good lol.

SoulBliss, I have the Candle Cafe cookbook and everything looks delicious! I've not tried anything yet, though. How nice it must be to be able to find a vegan or even vegetarian restaurant. I live in east TN and there are no vegetarian restaurants here. I'm not sure there are any vegetarians, other than my sister and myself! I'm 45 and I went to my first vegetarian restaurant a couple of months ago, lol, and had to travel to Asheville NC to find it

That sounds less than happy for sure...
You mentioned having some sort of resolve to circumnavigate this though? Baby wise? Can the symptoms be supressed by good diet?

I do miss all the vegan restaurants back in LA. Madison doesn’t have any vegan or even vegetarian restaurants anymore. There were a couple back when I was in college, but they’ve since gone under. Thankfully there are plenty of restaurants that are at least veg friendly, though avoiding dairy altogether can be a bit difficult at some places.

I’ve had a very good week food-wise. Tried out the chickpea broccoli casserole recipe from Vegan with a Vengeance last night. Not the most exciting thing I’ve ever made, but it was still good. I have a feeling it will be better after sitting a day, I’m having leftovers for lunch. Despite Isa’s note to make it as written the first time through I added seasoning, I just can’t help it. I just don’t do bland food. I added a little paprika, cayenne, curry powder and black pepper, but I’d definitely add more next time. Nutritional yeast would probably be a good addition, or maybe some tofutti sour supreme.

Have a great weekend everyone!

LA, SF and NYC are the BEST places to be vegan, for sure!

I am going to LA this weekend to take my daughter to see "Wicked" as her Jr. High graduation present (it's a surprise) and we are going to go to "California Vegan" (her favorite place in that area of Hollywood) and then to "Real Food Daily" (my favorite because it is organic and really healthy).

EEK! I can't abide by strict recipe guidelines! I know what I and my family likes best! I agree that nutritional yeast is a must and the "Sour Supreme" is always a yummy addition

Oh well, at least if I buy a pint, I only get 1 serving because my DH eats most of it himself (and it has only 8 grams of fat per serving anyway).

Purely Decadent is THE DEVIL!!!!!

I have given it to omnis and they out and out will not believe me that it's non dairy. That stuff is the bomb!

Hi all - mind if I jump in? I'm planning to move back to veganism tomorrow. I had to have on last bagel with cream cheese today :-). The only time I feel really good and weigh a healthy weight is when I am vegan. So - it's back on the vegan wagon for me. (Who knows why I quit - that's another story :-) ).

Hi, all! Just wanted to say hi. I've been veg for a few years, vegan for a few months.

Luja, Tofutti makes a good vegan cream cheese. After not having dairy for a couple of weeks, you probably won't be able to tell the difference.

Hi, I agree the Tofutti vegan cream cheese is really good. I helped cater a vegan party awhile back and made the most fabulous (and FATTENING, LOL) carrot cake and used the tofutti cream cheese as a base for the frosting, literally, you could not tell the diff.

My dad & my daughter are both vegans, I myself have been on sort of a seefood diet for years (if I see food I eat it LOL) but because of them I have been to most vegan restaurants here in LA and vegan food is DELICIOUS!!!!

To the poster who mentioned the great LA vegan diner Native Foods, my daughter has the cookbook from that restaurant....it even has the famous cheesesteak recipe in there, boy, even my carnivore hubby devours that thing!

Next trip out try Madeleine's on Ventura Blvd in the Valley (Tarzana...) Their "Big Maque" is DIVINE!!! 2 no-beef patties special sauce pickles etc....REALLY good. Their Sunday brunch with the tofu skillet scrambles and mimosas are also amazing. You will often see ex-Lady McCartney Heather Mills there -- but go anyway, LOL.

Greetings from the NorthWest

I'm slowly turning towards vegan-ism... I had my gallbladder removed several months ago, and even though I was a vegetarian for a few years in high school (and college), I find I cannot process dairy and meat very well anymore since the surgery, hence my decision to go vegan.

Since I've already done some reading up on amazon and google on vegan cookbooks and websites, I'm familiar with some of the listings on this link

I've got quite a bit more to lose (already have lost 42 pounds to date) and while I know vegan diets are low in calories, what is a typical day's worth of meals and calories for a vegan trying to lose weight?

Thanks!

Vegan diets aren't necessarily low in calories (they are cholesterol free though!) and I am a living testament to that

The plan varies as much as any other and caloric level is contingent upon your individual stats, as with any other! Check out the threads such as this one http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117495 to see what vegans eat in a day. I know I personally eat a higher volume of food for my calories than most (when I am on plan) because I base most of my meals around vegetables, beans, legumes and whole grains.

Best of luck!
