Frus, your run with your friends friend sounds interesting, you're a good sort to run for someone else..

Lou, good to hear noname is settling in...Lew ruffles my bathroom mat, pain in the arse when you go in for a wee in the middle of the night and trip on it.

Jen, hope you feeling 100% soon luvey

Veggie, the radio times, Mum gets another one, what's on TV? I think it's called, I used to get it when we lived there...it has some good puzzles in at the back I think...

Morning CG... Mum is here... FINALLY! Poor thing, her flight was delayed over an hour at Heathrow, due to a world tour of musicians holding up the flight by putting their intramunts in the thingies above the seats and then no one else having room for their carry ons. So the musicians then had their cello's and such in the seats next to them, and there was a carry on about that. Also a lady kept fainting while waiting to board as it was so hot in the terminal, so that held things up, and then they didn't get clearance from Boston to take off, so sat on the runway for a bit as well.
I drove into Boston at four thirty to get there for six with rush hour.. Dave directed... I've never seen traffic like it, it was amazing, but we made it fine and on time, and then had to wait becasue of the delay.

Not to bad waiting, I like to people watch and you get some interesting ones in an airport.

As we saw the flight coming and twenty minnutes later people started to appear we knew Mum would be a bit longer as she was getting assistance, we had a drink and had fun saying what country the peeople from the flight were from, we really do look different from different countries.

The flight landed at 7.40p.m. and by nine there was no sign of Mum and I was getting worried when a woman came out and asked who was there for a Mrs. D.... I stepped forward and said, that would be me, what's wrong... she explained that Mum was upset, and I feared that imigration had been nasty to her... it's happened before, but it wasn't that, she was upset as both suitcases hadn't turned up, of course she was very tired after a long day and the time change, so that didn't help stopping the tears.

They took us through to another part of the airport to help her and calm her, she's so little now, 5'3" and I just ran and huggd her and said it will all be sorted. She was so upset about the cases, one because some Christmas pressies are in there and two because all the godies she brings as well.

Apparently there's some sort of baggage handlers strike going on and her cases didn't get put on the flight...although otehr people had their cases, and I know they didn't carry them on, there was quite a few people lined up with the same problem, so we got in this line, described the cases, gave them our address anad they're supposed to be coming today on the one o'clock flight and then BA will bring them to the house, good thing too, as I told them I'm not driving into Boston to pick them up.

So my poor Mother, has no clothes, save one pair of knickers in her handbag and the flight socks they give you on the plane. BA did compensate by giving her a fifty dollar visa to use anywhere to buy neccessities, to get her through the night, but we didn't stop on the way back, as she was to tired to care and move, and I could deck her out with p.j's and such and wash what she was wearing so as she can wear it today.

I shall be writing a letter to BA, I'm not happy with them

She's slept through the night and has been up for a few hours and had a cuppa and breakfast and I've sent her back to bed....so she should be as right as rain when she gets up.

It's lovely to have her here though, and if her cases don't show up, I'll be claiming the loss and going on a shopping spree to deck her out :)

Ok, must go and get sorted...

Awww BritNJ - Give Mum a hug from me.

Thankfully I have never had that happen to me. I was pack a spare set of undies in my handbag when flying! Luckily I never travelled when everyone was antsy about what you should bring on board with you cos I always had to have my make up with me. You really would not want to travel with me if I had my make up confiscated!!! I heard the horror stories about how women were only allowed enough sanitary protection for the flight etc - who are tehy to say how much we need??!

I can well understand they have to be super careful what with terroists etc but each airport seemed to have their own ideas about this and let's be honest if someone wants to blow up a plane/ship/train etc they will do so whatever the rest of us do not carry on board.

Hope Mum BritNJ is alright now and I do hope her cases turn up.

Baggage handlers are always on strike but I can't blame them, I knew someone who worked at BA and I know how they treat their staff.

Ahh Chris your poor mum. Fingers crossed she'll get her cases today. Isn't it wierd how your parents get smaller as they get older.

I'm feeling like :censored: this morning. Had a really bad night so hubby is coming to take me to the doctor.

peacock 2 12-14-2006 09:19 AM

Sorry you are poorly Clydegirl. Hope whatever it is clears up quick.

Mum was at last seen by a specialist for her throat problem. I knew she was worried she had a cancerous growth in her throat. However it turned out to be a cyst on her tonsils. She is hoping for an appointment in the new year to have it lasered off.

Sarah Ann 12-14-2006 10:25 AM

Oh, Chris, your poor Mum - that sort of thing must be very scary when you're more mature and travelling on your own. I do hope she's feeling better after her long sleep - please give her a  from me.

CG - I hope you're feeling better - I just hope that getting to see a doctor in the US is a bit easier than it is over here in the UK where nowadays they seem to want to make it next to impossible to get an appointment when you are actually ill. At my new doctors the 'system' is that I could phone up today to make an appointment for NEXT Thursday (has to be 7 days gap) but if I want to see a doctor today then I should have phoned up at 8 am when the switchboard opens - but of course those appointments will be allocated around those booked last Thursday - so the chances are that if you wait until 8.05am to ring then all the slots will be filled. Stupid system! I much preferred it the old fashioned way when you just queued - okay sometimes you might wait for a couple of hours but at least you knew you'd get to see a doctor when you were actually ill.

Sorry.... just been trying to arrange an appointment and had the 'system' explained to me.... end of rant.

Hello everyone

Hope your mother is feeling a bit more rested now Chris.

Sarah hope you got to see the doctor.

Clydegirl you are poorly too hope you feel better soon too.

Peacock fantastic news about your mother you can enjoy Christmas now knowing she doesn't have anything sinister going on.

I'm in good form today. It was my day off I just tidied a bit went to the shops and got something in for the boys to eat.Eldest fella is such a fussy sod.

Our Christmas tree is up it is an artificial one this year and alot smaller than our usual one that I swear you could put in Trafalgar Square. Don't get me wrong I don't have some great big house its just my family go bonkers for trees. However this year we have a new sofa and there isn't room for our usual montrosity and I am thrilled!!!! I have little santa lights in the window and another light display which is very pretty.

My mother has been diagnosed with high blood pressure my father is convinced its because he wasnt' at the GP with her and she fretted. She went with her support worker you see. My father possibly has a point but they medicated her immediately. My mothe now weighs 13 stone 12 lbs she was eight stone 4!!! Since she was started on medication for her Schziophrenia nearly 10 years ago she has just got bigger and bigger. She was always such a tiny little thing, and like me she is only five feet tall.]She is blissfully unaware of her weight though and makes me laugh. I said to her the other day how heavy are you mother she said oh I think I must be about nine stone!!!

Just had an organic veggie chill and an organic yoghurt. Planning to go out walking with two friends and Ken later.

Take good care

Michele

Ahhhhhh, girls, thanks for the love for Mum, she's doing fine, she's had a catch up sleep and we've been for a little walk with me, she keeps saying how 'lovely' everything is...and making me laugh...she says she must stop saying it as she's getting sick of hearing it herself. I'll pass the hugs on to her.

Cg, get better, I'll call you soon...

Good news about your Mum Peacock...hugs from her to her too.

Michelle, your Mum sounds lovely..hope the BP meds work for her.

Ok, must go and do some laundry, it's horrendous, that boy of mine bought me a ahmper, a bag and a bin liner full of horrible smelly boy stuff.... GAH! Gotta love him.

Clydegirl 12-14-2006 01:35 PM

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. Just got back from the doc with new meds and I have to see physical therapy. I just want the pain to go away so as I can sleep.

I hear you Sarah about trying to get an appt. They don't make it easy.

Chris yes the laundry I will have the usual dirty washing tomorrow from daughter. I'm sure your mum will enjoy the scenery, completely different from NJ and AZ.

So got to see the show for free... aaaah the perks of the job! I was only handing out promo info, so it's not as glamorous as it seems!
How are you anyways? You seem to have disappeared off the Rox forums.:?:

Glad all of the Mom's are doing OK...Chris sounds like your had a nightmare. Boston traffic is absolutely ridiculous, I'm so lucky to be able to walk to work.

It's so warm here, it's weird. My Mom and SIL and I went for a long walk through the city tonight to look at all of the lights, it was so nice not to be freezing. We were walking through a very ritzy part of town, when I saw my mother going through someones trash...YES their trash. She found a bowl and took it. Who does that???????????????? She has money, she can buy a bowl but according to her it was "perfect." My Mother has also become tiny we used to be the same height 5'3 now she is about 5 ft and a size 4 or 6.

Sarah love the new avatar!!

BritinNJ 12-14-2006 11:01 PM

Well BA have found one suitcase and I had a phone call earlier to say it will be delivered between nine and midnight tonight, so here we are sitting, waiting, it's nearly eleven, won't they just show up at midnight... they're really starting to piddle me off now.

Hannah made Mum and I laugh earlier though when we were telling her one suitcase was on the way, she said she hoped it was the one with the goodies in, cos she wants some chocolate, and Nan said, but the other one has my clothes and more especially important, my knickers in it... I would like them... Hannah just looked at her and said, we've got a washing machine and if your clothes don't turn up, we'll just go and buy you some new ones. Bless her...she's so straight forward and honest, sometimes it's painful :)

RSG... I want to tour Boston, but I don't really want to be driving around, so I think when we come up next year with my mum and Ted, we'll be doing the trolley thing, I still can't get over the traffic on the freeway, it was like a giant car park last night... amazing. It is quite nice weather wise here, especially for the time of year, I saw a snowflake on next Weds weather though... what day does Christmas fall on, I have no clue...will we have a white Christmas, that would be nice :)

HM, Pink again hey... you'll be a groupie soon... good for you getting to see it free...hope it was as good as the last one.

CG...you're worrying me, if you still feel poorly tomorrow, have that child do her own washing, she did laundry 101 when you went home... she'll be able to do it again :hugs: Talk soon. x

Me too that is also on my list of things to do! :)

Sarah Ann 12-15-2006 02:57 AM

Chris - did they deliver the suitcase? I can't believe that they'd deliver at midnight - especially as they are in the wrong on this. Have they managed to locate the other one yet?

RSG - How old is your Mum? I only ask because I've lost an inch and a half since I was in my 20s! (AND I WANT THEM BACK!!!) @ your Mum going through someone's rubbish - was the bowl on the top or did she have to dig deep?????

Time to go walkies!
