Question New Scales

My scales are going crackers!! They don't zero properly, they put a half a stone on me if I stand a certain way, my feet are too big for the platform thing... I'm going to buy a new set

Anyone have any recommendations? I'm thinking about a big pair of mechanical ones like the docs have. Not sure about electronics, they just always seem a bit funny, what do you reckon?

See I would def opt for electronic if it were me - they give you def figure - none of this breathing in and out and the needles going up and down! and your eyes deceiving you!

I think we should beat all the scales in the world to bits and then it won't matter a fig what we weigh anymore will it?

Ok ok!! I opted for some electronic ones with a body fat monitor to see if I am gaining muscle rather than loosing weight!

I am 26.6% fat (horrid thought) but I weight 12st 7lbs on these new ones!!!!

Ah well, it's all relative! I've still lost a stone but I'm just not as light as I thought I was!!

I am 5'8" I'm not really paying too much attention, but if my weight stays the same after a really good week but my body fat goes down I can say, "Ah! I've put on muscle!" In a knowing voice!!

I've read lots of times that years of yo-yo dieting makes it harder to lose fat% and I've been yo-yoing for about 10 years. When I say yo-yoing, I really mean it too, considering I was once over 18 and a half stone!! Oh well, I struggle to make sense of it at times!

Talking

Scuse me for butting in, it seems to me that around the 13 - 12 stone mark, many people seem to struggle to lose. I'm just under 14, and am already floundering. Mind you, the exercise thing is hardest for me, as I don't seem to have enough time (cries of 'get off the computer then!'). the change down with WW from 24 points, which I found easy, to 22 points, is hard, and I can't ever see me getting below 12 stone, as I'd then go down to 20, aargh. I did try going to a gym a while ago, but find that just makes me VERY HUNGRY Tai Chi is very healthy, but doesn't burn the fat off.....Karate is too much for my poor joints now (I'm 45)
To get back to the original subject, I have electronic scales, and even they keep flickering up and down a couple of pounds! My WW leader's scales are 3lb below mine anyway (with clothes as well), so it's all very confusing
I was on another message board recently and got thoroughly mixed up - surely as your muscle ratio increases, it should be easier to burn off the fat, but it actually seems to be that you have to work harder to lose - sigh

Bit of a nightmare isn't it?? Personally, the lowest I have been in years is around 12st. I couldn't seem to budge no matter what I did, so then I eventually gave in and the whole cycle started again. I know it sounds like an excuse, but some people are naturally larger framed than others so it is harder for them to get down past a certain weight.

At the WW meeting this week, I overheard a group of 4 friends discussing their losses. Two had stayed the same and two had each lost 3lbs. The 2 who had stayed the same were gutted as the other two had apparently drunk for England at the weekend and been completely 'naughty' whereas those who had stayed the same had been 'good'. Seems to go that way at times... so frustrating!

Aww poor non-drinkers! What a shame!!

My mum has great trouble getting under 12st too. I have plateauted here too but I tend to do that during term time anyway I just need a spurt of weight loss then it'll stay off (hopefully!!).

I'm going to try realy really hard this year though and try and lose a stone by my birthday (beginning of Jan)! Which could be a nightmare, but we shouldn't have such an unhealthy christmas as we're staying home this year!!
