Default Diet Junkies

Did you see it? Did you?

I can't wait for the next revelations! Robert Atkins died weighing in at 18 stone!!!!! And in no way did he have a heart condition! No he only had cardiomyopathy - a type of heart disease in which the heart is abnormally enlarged (enlarged heart), thickened and/or stiffened. As a result, the heart muscle's ability to pump blood is usually weakened. The condition typically begins in the walls of the heart's lower chambers (ventricles), and more severe cases may affect the walls of the upper chambers (atria), as well. This damage to the heart walls inhibits the ability of the heart to function effectively, which commonly results in heart failure. It may also cause arrhythmias (potentially dangerous abnormal heart rhythms).

I copied and pasted that bit by the way

I have a diet book in the boot of my car - it seems to Atkins but perhaps a little earlier, guess who the author is?!?!? Tessie O'Shea, otherwise known as two ton Tessie!! Her books aims to help you "lose a little weight but to keep that roly poly cuddly you that everyone loves so much" Laugh, I nearly wet myself!!

Anyway, back to the programme. The other diet shown was the Hollywood Diet with that anorexic troll!!! Was she ever the best advert for not dieting EVER! Her whole ethos (and she has no qualifications or nutrional knowledge - she said so) is to eat so much fruit that you lose everything through your bottom! Sorry if you're eating!! Anyway. There don't apear to be any rich people left for her to get to so she's moving down the hill a bit to get the Hispanic girls to shed some weight. So that's another whole culture who doesn't see fat as revolting about to be targetted by the cash cow!!!!

I wonder what they'll show next week? I can't weight (sorry - wait)

My husband must have seen that show or at elast read about it as he was going on about Dr Atkins' weight yesterday.

When is the show next on? What channel? I would love to watch it.

Thanks

In the same way you should never trust a skinny cook - you should never trust an obese diet expert!!!!!

That is like those women who write books about getting rich husbands .. and then you find they divorced. Mind you I suppose they are not shamed by this - they just go on to the next millionaire!!!!!

Stef, your mentioning Hispanic girls made me think - whatever do Italian girls and Oriental girls do if they cannot eat pasta and rice (ditto Irish girls and their spuds!) on the Atkins diet. Or have they more sense?

Tuesday nights at 8pm. So I have to tape it cos I teach class until 8.15 and have a long drive home!

Errata: The anorexic troll (Judy Mazell) didn't write the Hollywood Diet she wrote the Beverly Hills Diet! Other details were right though!!!

As for Hispanic, Irish and oriental girls well! I hadn't thought about that! Hispanic and Italian foods tend to be fairly Mediterranean, so balanced and flavourful, as are most true oriental dishes. Those cutures also have a liking for roundness. The cult of thin is not endemic - think of Sophia Loren etc!

I wonder what will happen though? Will the New Dying Revolution take off in those countries too. Or will it just be USA and those of us who follow blindly?

Staf - I agree their is nothing wrong with the med or oritental diet but from the Atkins view of things - low carb - pasta and rice is not viewed in a good light.

I think SOphia Loren is gorgeous. I would love to look like her! I don't think very slim (or skinny if you like) women lood good. When older they get chicken necked.
